Neptunia Team Developing Fairy Fencer F For PlayStation 3

By Spencer . May 7, 2013 . 3:42pm

imageThe "Galapagos RPG" teased by Compile Heart is probably called Fairy Fencer F. Famitsu revealed the game this week which will be published by Compile Heart and developed by the Neptunia team. Not much is known about the story aside from the names of the main characters and voice actors: Tiara (Kaori Ishihara, Ram in Neptunia), Fang (Ryota Ohsaka, Mark in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure),  and Allyn (Rumi Okubo, has a role in Fate/Extra CCC).

Compile Heart said to Siliconera Galapagos RPG would have a surprising collaboration. Yoshitaka Amano, notable for creating artwork for the Final Fantasy games, and Nobuo Uematsu, who is known for composing the score for many Final Fantasy titles, were announced to be working on the game, which is most likely Fairy Fencer F.

  • Seems like it, the picture isn’t colorful and moe. =P

  • I really hope they can do Amano’s artwork justice in this game. I’ve been dying to see an Amano designed game in full 3D, and it’s a crime against humanity that it’s taken this long to get made.

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

FFF? Interesting, wonder if Compile Heart will continue with the moe style of their Neptunia games or will they branch out to something new. Mature fairies perhaps?

    • coax

I’d like to see something more like the older Agarest without the romance. The Neptune/Mariage combat system gets a bit tedious after awhile.

  • FetusZero

Hmm.. not a fan of FF, but that can’t be bad for them nonetheless (although I like CH’s usual style). A new style for a new branch makes sense though.. if they were to be the same as usual, there’d be little point in even branching out.

    • MogCakes

But it’s not FF, it’s FFF!

      • Kevadu

Yes, clearly the more Fs the better!

    • puchinri

Given it’s only someone who’s designed for the series and someone who’s composed for it (and both of whom still have very extensive and popular ties otherwise), I wouldn’t say a FF influence or tie is relevant (which is good).

      • FetusZero

Can’t say you don’t have a point, but to me it feels like a strong indication that they’re trying to go with something different. Not like Final Fantasy specifically, but just different than what they usually do.

        • puchinri

I think that was their point from the beginning. It seems to be the entire point of the Galapagos line, if I read the implication right. Of course, that doesn’t mean that they’ll abandon everything they know/do (I can’t see how they’ll progress well if they do), but it never hurts to dabble around and broaden your horizons (especially as a dev).

  • Wtv

That means a fairy will be the protagonist, right?
I don’t care if it’s moe, realistic, dark or whatever.

    Just…please…a fairy protagonist.

    • JustThisOne

Granted, but all you get to do is revive Link over and over again. X to “Hey Listen!”

In all seriousness though, I’m kind of hoping so. I would like to see a grimdark take on fairies. Most versions of fairies I’ve seen end up being quite sugary.

  • DesmaX

Well, go on ahead. I’d say Nep V was their first “legitimately good” game, so I think they’re ready for something like this

    • DyLaN

Opinions, folks. Don’t downvote some1 just because you do not like HDN series.

  • Demeanor

Interesting names there, I’m liking NepV immensely. I too am getting a more mature feeling from this, I’m kinda intrigued to see how this first rpg can be both more serious and more japanese-like, I want to see what vision they have for this new studio.

  • Randy Marsh

Sounds awesome, well at least right now.

But knowing Compile Heart, it will be killed by loads of fail fourth wall and boob jokes. Or is Compile Heart finally going to attempt to make a good RPG with a serious story. Please let it be the latter, because it would be an awesome thing to see.

    • puchinri

      Also hoping for the latter.

I don’t know if listing a character who appears for five minutes is one of the better examples of Ryota Ohsaka’s roles.

  • Prungy

Between bringing Uematsu and Amano on board, and having a title that spells out FF (with another F to spare), it sounds like Compile Heart is trying to invoke the spirit of Final Fantasy, as Bravely Default did before.

    • puchinri

The shared fairy part (in this and BD) kind of made me side-eye a bit (a mischievous side-eye though).

  • The title alone, “Fairy Fencer”, and the Neptunia team working on it immediately got my attention. I must know more soon =)

    • Yeah i’m excited too ^ ^

  • Linhua

… so what in the world was the point of the whole Galapagos thing .-. Some kinda cover name for the actual title…?

… sounds like some kinda Deadly Mexican Banana ._.||

  • Oversoul

sadly, I’m predicting another mediocre hyper-super-kawaii-anime styled game that appeals to no one

    • DyLaN

Tell tht to Azurenova and others including me. Don’t assume every1 dislike the same thing as you.

  • Juuu

I hope it includes actual fencing!! ;p With Move compatibility! Hahaha.

  • zazza345

Amano is doing the concept design of the characters. Actual designer is Tsunako.

2ch and general Japanese forums and sites. It’s all indirect information as no one has posted the actual images around.

        • Vyleon

This information is correct. I found some scans of it and they looked like Tsunako designed characters.

  • dragoon_slayer12

Hopefully they have something to show at e3

  • Sentsuizan_93

Man, I can’t wait to hear more about this.

  • 4shiki

Tiara and Alyn are so…hnnng! Oh, my heart!

  • Kai2591

I just hope its to my liking :)
