Steel Illusion Chronicle: Chrome Wolf Is A SNES Style RPG With Tank Combat

By Spencer . May 7, 2013 . 12:45am

Kemco the makers of classic-esque RPGs like Silver Nornir has a neat looking military themed RPG called Steel Illusion Chronicle: Chrome Wolf. In this game you play as Kurtz leader of the rebel forces against the Imperial Army. The story follows the lives of the guerrilla forces you lead into battle… with tanks!

During tank battles you use energy each time you fire shells. If you run out of energy you can’t use the tank anymore. Tanks can be customized with different parts. On the field you can tap the screen to board and disembark from the tank. Steel Illusion Chronicle: Chrome Wolf also has standard RPG combat.

Steel Illusion Chronicle: Chrome Wolf is available now on Google Play, but only in Japanese. Since Kemco usually localizes their RPGs, I expect we’ll see this in English some time in the future.

The infamous Hetzer is in this game, but what’s with the blue tank player have? Unprotected tracks and might be totally fictional.

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

Of all the RPGs that they’ve shown so far, (and while this story seems totally cliche) I’m actually interested. I don’t usually play games on my phone, but this may (MAY) change that.

  • Well, colour me intrigued.

So long it doesn’t remind me of Girls und Panzer, which I really hope is ironic, because if it’s not my mind might break. It’s like K-On! with tanks, and jingoism!

The propaganda spiel in the first episode had me facepalming so hard. Well, I’m still enjoying it in some perverse way.

Need more games on my tablet.

Ha ha yes, Girls und Panzer was a really bizarre show at times. I’ve forgotten what the propaganda talk in episode one was since I usually just tended to tune that stuff out, what was that all about now again?

      • Girls should operate tanks, operating tanks will teach you all the values of womanhood, being as strong as steel, as supple as blah blah, tank operation will make all the boys fall for you!

It seemed like something out of the 40s-60s.

  • Eh, I’m more of a giant robots guy than a tank fanatic.

  • Aristides

OMG it’s Girls und Panzer the RPG, or Valkyria Chronicles turn based SNES version XP I’m loving this……… please port to PSP <3

A Superfamicom game… at four times the resolution!…

  • Ladius

I like Kemco and EXE Create’s output (Unlucky Hero was surprisingly enticing for a smartphone low budget jrpg), if they release it in English I will make sure to buy it :)

  • Pretty sure some of those sprites are ripped straight from Suikoden II…

    • Warboss Aohd

naw, da spritez are too short ta be from Suikoden 2.

    • Ladius

It’s a pretty extreme accusation to make, considering those games employ completely different art styles.

  • Triplicity

    Metal Max?

  • venomz09

the side-view battle system kinda sucks….but guess it’s not a deal breaker.

everything else is awesome, damn this brings me back….

good stuff….music is on point too.
