Arcana Heart 3 Love Max Adds New Moves Like The Arcana Eclipse

By Spencer . May 8, 2013 . 6:18pm

Examu brought Arcana Heart 3 back to arcades with Arcana Heart 3 Love Max. This version has been rebalanced and includes features found in the console version from Arc System Works such as survival mode and a training mode.

All characters have two additional attacks as well. You can do a powerful Arcana Eclipse attack by doing QCB + B and C during an Extend Force. Here’s a look at the Arcana Eclipse techniques.

Arcana Heart 3 Love Max is in Japanese arcades now. Examu and console version publisher Arc System Works have not said if they will release an upgrade patch as downloadable content.

If Arc System Works releases a DLC patch, I hope they also release an in-game instruction booklet and a better single player mode.

The new version of homing, homing cancel, Extend Force etc aren’t explained in-game and the Canada/US download-only version has no instruction booklet when you download the game. The in-game command list retains the arcade’s a/b/c/d/e button names, causing the player to have to learn Square is A etc (once again without an instruction booklet.)

“Survival Mode” only lasts for less than a dozen random NPC fights before you play a mini-boss with a slew of 100% combos, then it ends if you beat her. The Story Mode is too rigid and the final boss in it is difficult to hit at all thanks to most attacks wanting to auto-target its turrets rather than its weak points. The gallery can only have pictures unlocked if you play the game in full screen with side animations. There is no feature that let’s you increase the small health gauge for multiplayer matches (unless you’re playing training mode) which is unfortunate since the most matches don’t seem to last long enough (like most fighters lately.)

All in all, the port was rather iffy and the game unfortunately ignored thanks to the PSN being shut down due to the hacking when it was supposed to be released. Upon its return, when Arcana Heart 3 was finally available (as a PSN download only in North America), Mortal Kombat 9 was fully released the same day. Rather sad since Arcana Heart 3 is great fun to play and can be very high octane if you like to play fast characters in-game thanks to the clashing, cancels, homing, and dashing.

Download only? It is not available for download in EU store, I assume US store only then?

      • Wappuli

Yes, luckily there was a physical release in europe.

I’d like a patch, please. Want those pretty blue menus…

    • Tyler Beale

Well, Neppygear..(Nep-Ge?? lol) Wouldn’t Aksys have to be the one to get the patch (if it’s ever made, that is) to the NA PSN?

      • Neppygear

Actually, I have the Euro disc version. So I’d have to rely on…

        …Zen United…

I love AH3 but I wish they would upgrade those characters sprites. Here’s hoping for AH4.

I would enjoy a AH4, and i totally agree with the sprites. personally they don’t look bad in general…but after having played so many 2D games with HD sprites i’m addicted…and seeing the HD character art right next to the sprites doesn’t help lol.

More than likely, I think that’s why they went through the trouble of releasing this update. They need a bit more time to finish redrawing 20+ characters and their arcana (plus any new ones) in HD. This game is just a nice little “hold-over” until they finish.

I’d like to think we’ll see a definitive AH4 by next year in arcades, perhaps. Examu’s usually pretty good about that kind of thing. Plus, the last “new” thing they released was Aquapazza, and it’s been a while since even that came out.

    arcana eclipse trailer on youtube
    good stuff

  • Istillduno

Wow some of those arcana eclipses look pretty good, especially if the arcana bar recovers that quickly after them.

  • The more Arcana Heart, the better!
