Nintendo’s The Mysterious Murasame Castle Is Finally Leaving Japan

By Spencer . May 9, 2013 . 5:02pm

samurai The Mysterious Murasame Castle was one of the early Famicom Disk System games along with the Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels. So far, The Mysterious Murasame Castle has only been released in Japan even though the game’s main character Takamaru showed up overseas.

Takamaru is a playable character in Samurai Warriors 3 which Nintendo published in the West and Takamaru’s Ninja Castle in Nintendo Land is based on The Mysterious Murasame Castle. It took over 25 years, but it looks like gamers will finally be able to play the original game.

A rating for The Mysterious Murasame Castle popped up in Australia’s Classification Board filed by Nintendo. Unless they are working on a surprise remake, this will be a Virtual Console digital import. The question is will it be available for Nintendo 3DS or Wii U.

It’s also featured in Nintendo land…maybe it’s getting a kid icarus:uprising like reboot?

Now that would be amazing I might get so hype for that, it might make me end up in the hosPITal

    • That guy who hates Spike

Tecmo Koei or SEGA would make a great developer for the game.

  • I wouldn’t put a surprise remake entirely out of the question. Frankly it seems more likely than that they went back and translated a 25-year-old NES ROM.

It’s a pretty text light game though. Only text is the opening and ending, plus file screen (which would be less than a minute of a translator’s time, it’s all “File ____” in katakana). In theory, they could just give translations in the manual and avoid touching the rom.

  • Takamaru for the next Super Smash Brothers. You heard it here first, folks!

Except people wanted him to be in Brawl like 6 years ago.

      • Ah, but Nintendo didn’t acknowledged his existence to be in the west until now, did they? He wasn’t even treated the same way as Marth was for Melee onward, until recent years. So, this is now Takamaru’s golden opportunity!

Hint of his appearance in SSB4?

Next one needs to be Fire Emblem Gaiden or Genealogy of the Holy War.

Cool, I liked this game, although it was a bit hard.

  • Now this is a surprise! I certainly wouldn’t mind. Hopefully they’ll translate the game in the process…

  • if they’re going the full monty and making this a remake of kid Icarus: uprising’s scale, this seems like the perfect game series to make into a DMC/revengence/ninja gaiden style game.
