Retro Style JRPG Maker, Kemco, Is Coming To E3

By Spencer . May 12, 2013 . 10:44pm

bonds_02 While some companies are pulling out of E3, other companies are stepping in. Other companies like Bonds of the Skies developer Kemco.

Kemco develops role playing games for iOS and Android that feel like modern Super Nintendo games. Take a look at Silver Nornir or Steel Illusion Chronicle: Chrome Wolf which lets you fight in battle with tanks like the Metal Max games. Most Kemco games are localized in English and Natsume is handling the PSP game Mystic Chronicles.

No titles were announced, but I hope they localize this.

I’m happy to hear about this, I’ve got several Kemco games on my iPhone.

It’s nice to see a company like Kemco filling in the JRPG niche after so many companies have stepped away from it.

    • If you seek so much this kind of game, write in Google this : Rpg maker games and you will have a tons of them.

      • Ty Austin

Eh, most of their games are a little more sophisticated than that. Plus, it’s hard to make a 2D jrpg and have it not be labeled something done in rpgmaker.

  • Hayama_Akito

    Wait… Kemco?

    THAT Kemco?

    • Zero_Destiny

Yup THAT Kemco. lol You can even see their logos all over the games and even the icons for the games.

Some game screenies I took real quick from the couple of their games I still have on my iPhone. The logo at the start of each game and their name in all that legal mumbo jumbo at the bottom of the title screens for each game. Also for fun I just shoved some actual game shots in their too. lol

      • Hayama_Akito

Yeah, sorry, i didn’t even know they are still alive and they are much more than just “retro style jRPG makers”, that’s for sure.

        • Zero_Destiny

No reason to be sorry! lol It’s funny how companies just seem to pop out sometimes.

I completely forgot that Kemco did Drakkhen, Dragon View and Lagoon. Those Super Nintendo games were the corner stones of my childhood.

      • Well, they did the snes ports of Drakkhen and Lagoon. Originally Zoom did Lagoon and Infogrames did Drakkhen.

they also did the cool NES ports of the Macventures.

I get basically all of their games on iOS, they’re pretty good games. Very much 16-bit JRPG style stuff and nothing particularly “innovative”, but they do what they set out to do well.

Controls do the job, but I would really love to see ports to Vita or 3DS (other than the one Natsume-localized PSP game), maybe even WiiU.

They’re a little more Android-focused than iOS, games will usually release first on Android then come out later on iOS. Hmm… with that in mind, they could carve out a bit of a niche by releasing their Android stuff on Ouya…

Excited to see what they have to say/show at E3 at any rate!

    • Yeah seriously, why not port them to the 3DS eShop?

    • Which games would you say are their best? I’ve been meaning to try them out, but their prices are a bit steeper than the standard iOS fare so I’ve been a bit cautious.

      • 3PointDecoupage

Symphony of the Origin. It’s the one I’m playing now, and the graphics are a bit better than super nintendo.

        • Oh yeah, I saw that one, it looked really good! Kemco’s Aeon Avenger just got a price drop to 99 cents though, so I think I might try that one first.

  • Zhizn Snake

Kemco, for me, is Top Gear. Is it strange that out of all the racing series out there, Top Gear is still one of my few favorites in the genre? The first two on SNES and Rally pn N64 were in a league of their own, imo. I’d love for a new Top Gear from Kemco with the same style and musical style as those games.

Top Gear 3000 is by far the best racer I ever played. I played it with my brothers for hours and hours. They were incredibly fun, hope for the same as you. It strikes as weird that we are talking about the same company.

I’m glad they make such nice games for Android/iOS, and I also hope that more of their titles get ported and localized. Cool to hear that they’ll be at E3 too! I hope they get to grow more as a company.

  • Rollersnake

Wow, I had no idea Kemco were still around. I think we’re long overdue for another Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle.
