A Famitsu Swimsuit Pops Up In PlayStation Vita Game Photo Kano Kiss

By Spencer . May 15, 2013 . 11:44pm

famitsu_01We’ve seen a lot of wacky Japanese crossover costumes and Famitsu is no stranger to those either. Phantasy Star Portable 2 had the "Iron Wall of Famitsu" which emitted a Weekly Famitsu logo if you blocked just at the right time.

Photo Kano Kiss has a ridiculous crossover too – a Famitsu bathing suit. You can get a Fukubukuro DLC code for Photo Kano Kiss with the May 30th issue that unlocks a photo session with a Famitsu swimsuit. Fukubukuro is a grab bag with a bunch of random items, usually sold as a discount to clear out inventory. The catch is you don’t know what’s inside until you open the package.

Photo Kano Kiss is out now for PlayStation Vita.

Why can’t they release such a lovely game on the western market? I don’t see much dating sims where the girls are not still images.

    • d19xx

      Because meltdown….

    • Testsubject909

It’d be touching an unknown market that companies outside of the adult game industry probably has little numbers to base themselves off of while also having to combat the whole imagery of “A dating sim? This is obviously a game for loser loners with no girlfriend” social stigma that would impede with game sales aaaaand do I continue or do you get the general gist of it?

      • Tom

You might be right about the social stigma but I think there are too few adult games on the market. Nintendo overcensores everything, we can only hope to get adult games on Sony or MS consoles. But as long as they thing we don’t like these kind of games we’re not going to get anything.

        • Testsubject909

By adult market I meant the hentai game market.

Because Visual Novels and Dating Sims are more often associated to that market in the general western mentality I believe.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Altin-Bujupaj/1157167838 Altin Bujupaj

More like, it’d touch some people and game journalists the wrong way.

        • Kevin Schwarz

Yeah, the media would butcher it before it even hits the stores.

          • Testsubject909

            I’d say…

            Do it.

Ya heard me. Do it. Let the mainstream media butcher it… Because they’re often wrong about these things, this game would be aimed for a niche market to begin with and them spreading the news about it would be wildfire free marketing that would entice a lot of morbid curiosity or those wanting to make fun of the game and taken suddenly aback if the story is as good as I hear it is.

Meaning? While the initial flow would be negative, the end-lasting impact would be far more positive, possibly, pending upon how well sales would do compared to projections. Add in those who would have naturally purchased it, a small niche, those within the multitude of niches with a more open mind for experimentation tossing in and finally the added extras from the mainstream media brainlessly like headless chicken quawking around and providing the game a greater spread of knowledge then it’s marketing finances would allow and it may just create success.

It’s a gamble though. And we all know that companies don’t like gambling.

    • Renaldi Saputra

bcos gaming style on western and Japan are very contradictive

    • https://twitter.com/mikedo2007 mikedo2007

I don’t think this game this would go really well with American video game audiences.

      • Tom

Yeah, I know. But there would be some who would love to buy it. By the way I live in EU :)

        • https://twitter.com/mikedo2007 mikedo2007

Well if it was a dating sim with a K-pop girl band, like for example a dating sim game with Girls Generation/SNSD, KARA, After School, 4minute, or any K-pop girl group that would sell really well in the west since K-pop is really big in western Europe and in some part of US (I know it’s mainstream in South America and Eastern Europe). I wish South Korea could make a dating sim games with Girls Generation, I’ll buy it so I can “date” with Jessica, Tiffany, and Sooyoung (my ultimate fave). A dating sims with K-pop artists would sell better in the west then this giving the hallyu/Korean Wave that is conquering the world.

          • Tom

I only know the Run Devil Run music video (the dance one) and from that my fav is Tiffany. :) That K-Pop Idol game is a good idea!

          • https://twitter.com/mikedo2007 mikedo2007

Well that’s why I want Ubisoft to make a Just Dance: K-pop edition (there’s a petition, google Just Dance: Kpop style and you’ll find it, sign the petition so Ubisoft can make a Just Dance: K-pop edition). Beside a Just Dance: Kpop edition. I do want Korea to make a dating sim game with K-pop idol, I mean if Japan can make a AKB48 dating sim game:

            http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2012-08-05/3rd-akb48-dating-simulator-has-153-idols-to-choose-from

            http://www.siliconera.com/2012/11/02/akb-1149-love-election-starts-with-you-cold-calling-idols/

Then Korea can make one with Girls Generation for the fanboys, SNSD are well-known around the world so this dating sim would sell like hotcake in Europe, South America, and North America. That would be the only time a dating sim would sell really well in the west because K-pop is more popular then J-pop thanks to the Korean Wave. Why stop at Girls Generation. Korea can make one for Super Junior (to please K-pop fangirl), Miss A (another well-known K-pop girl group), Wonder Girls (that dating sim would sell like crazy in the US), U-KISS, SHINee, etc.. You see who needs dating sim games from Japan, Korea can make their own using K-pop singers and sell it to the west where K-pop popularity is rising.

Because if this game came to the western market (particularly the United States), this would be on television:

FOX News: Breaking news! With the recent port of the video game, Photo Kano Kiss to Sony’s PlayStation Vita, conservative analysts are now making claims that the platform itself was made for perverts. Now we return to your primetime scantily clad women.

    • artemisthemp

I don’t think the market for this game is big enough to make up the cost of getting it translate and dub <– Not that important.

I also think, this game will be illegal in UK and Sweden, duo to that law about Anime

      • Tom

I agree, dubbing is not necessary, translated text will do just fine. What?! Law about Anime? You must be kidding, right?

        • artemisthemp

          Nope.
Manga UK had to remove the girl in Swimsuit in the opening in Code: Geass to be able to release the anime in UK.

US version of Agarest War 2 is illegal in UK, because it have Child Fionna mini game.

  • Crazy_O

So Siliconera, I know this will never be released in the west.. but IF I expect the same partnership with Photo Kano from you.

    • Testsubject909

Well it’s on Vita, so at the very least you can import it.

Edit: Unless it’s a PSN only game.. I’m not very informed about this title. If it’s a PSN only game. Then you can still get it it’s just a few different hoops to go through.

      • Crazy_O

I actually have a memory card with my japanese account on it. Bought Project Diva with it. But I need to see if it can be played by only being able to read Hiragana/Katakana D:

        • Testsubject909

That’s not so bad for you.

I can’t read Hiraganara, Katakana or Kanji.

I’d be relying on ear since it’s supposedly 100% voice acted. And on a lot of experimentation less there be a good FAQ/transcript out there.

      • Kevadu

Nah, you can get it one a cart. Of course you’ll still need a JP account if you want to access the DLC…

        • Testsubject909

The basic content seems interesting enough.

Edit: Plus considering how the DLC content is currently available, I doubt I’d get my hands on that.

  • Kevadu

    That’s a swimsuit?

    • Testsubject909

      Makes me wonder what’s lingerie.

  • Testsubject909

For a moment there. I thought she wasn’t wearing anything for her bottom. Took me a short while to figure out “oh, it’s there… The colors, if you don’t pay proper attention they just meld…”

    But that aside…

I’ve missed a few days of news… What sorta game is this?

    I’m intrigued and curious…

And my perverted interest is also intrigued and curious.

    • Kevadu

It’s a dating sim with a photography theme, by the people who did KimiKiss and Amagami. It was originally released for the PSP, then they made a Vita version with extra content. The Vita version also takes advantage of the accelerometers/gyroscopes to make the photography segments feel more like aiming an actual camera, which is a nice touch.

      • Testsubject909

Ah… well my hopes for localization is a nice 0.

        Soooooo…

What’s the import price for this little baby?

Edit: Hit me. I trust you Kefka. Even if that should be quite unwise.

        • Tom

Check it on ebay or play-asia. I found it a bit expensive and risky since I can’t speak/read japanese.

          • Testsubject909

Welp… Guess it’ll be one of those “It’ll have to wait a while” games.

Edit: Plus I’m not that intimidated by the language barrier… I was still able to play TokiMemo without knowing a single word in that game or what was going on… Yet somehow still got the girl I set out to get through sheer persistence.

          • ShadowDivz

Snap. Well you know what they say. Quitters never win and winners never quit!

        • http://www.santashi.com/ Santashi

It’s 6800 plus postage on CDJapan. It’s sold out on AmiAmi.

    • http://thrust-the-sky.deviantart.com/ WildArms

If you want to learn stuff with more details, i wrote about the game here http://visualnovelaer.fuwanovel.org/2013/05/take-photos-and-kisses-in-photo-kano-kiss/

      • Testsubject909

I looked at older articles I missed and saw some of your comments, I’m fully intrigued by it and would be willing to play it, though I don’t read Japanese and doubt I’ll pick up the ability to read it anytime soon. Phonetically though I can catch on to what people are usually saying or stating though some jokes will fly over my head.

I’m wondering more if there are fan translations, script translations or faqs that I can rely on for getting me through.

If not. It’s Tokimeki Memorial all over again and me doing a lot of messing around, saving and loading.

  • Spider-Man

I thought she was missing a bottom piece in the first pic due to the color. I can totally imagine her naked. I thought in the other screenshot she was on the toilet and she was having her pic taken. This is too much. I’m tired, I’m going to bed.

    • Testsubject909

Dating game with Photography minigame… Spiderman avatar picture works for the Bugle as freelance photographer…

      ….

      Hmm…

      • Spider-Man

I…It’s not what you think, honest!

        Please don’t tell Mary Jane.

  • http://epiclyamazing.wordpress.com/ AzureNova

Now that is one sexy swimsuit ^_^

that’s not your wallet then :ifyouknowwhatimean:

  • Victor Wesker

Is this game like a photoporn?

    • Stranger On The Road

if your imagination is good enough…. then any image could be turned into porn.

      • Testsubject909

For example. Put a censor bar on any Honey pots when looking at Winnie the Pooh picture. Enjoy your childhood memories being traumatized.

Not me though, never did watch Winnie the Pooh when I was younger.

    • Renaldi Saputra

      maybe like playing pokemon snap
      anyone think so?

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

yeah never mind this game is a bit shameless then love plus lol

  • http://www.santashi.com/ Santashi

I’m not sure that I’d recommend that they try actually swimming in those swimsuits.

    • Testsubject909

If we’re to be the cameraman.

I say. Go swim in those. Let us just prepare the waterproof cameras.

  • gamefreak86

Perfect for vita. Hopefully if anything they release Asian (Chinese) version that includes English sub. Id grab it.

  • cloudcaelum

Vita can do more than this as graphic…

    • Testsubject909

While yes, it does all flow nicely if you go look at the trailer for it.

  • ChiffonCake

Oh, uh… that’s… some underboob. Wow.

    • Testsubject909

Pair it up with the jiggle physics and marvel at the wonder of skin glue.

  • Aristides

Jesus Christ what the hell is this game XDXDXDXD When I first viewed the page I thought the girl on the third image was peeing lol. I don’t think I’ll miss this game if it doesn’t get localized, but if it miraculously did I’d try to give it a serious look just because it’s a localized game.

    • Hraesvelgr

      “if”

I don’t think there’s really a chance of it being localized. I can just imagine the Kotaku article(s) for this game.

      • Aristides

lol yeah I can imagine the media roast for this game too. It would likely get burnt to a crisp before it even hits QA. But hey controversy sells right? XDXDXDXD

        • Testsubject909

          No. Controversy can kill.

I’d like to remind you Mass Effect 3′s ending.

          • Aristides

            lol that was a joke.

          • Testsubject909

            M’bad. Wasn’t sure if serious.

    • Testsubject909

From what I saw in the comments of an older article. It’d be….

      Sad…

It’d be highly superficial in nature. From what I understand, the story is actually pretty good, solid and serious on both ends with a lot of differences, one such being that in one route, someone almost dies in a car accident while in the other, someone doesn’t. From what I understand the story doesn’t pander to fetishism or happy-sexy time so much so as to building a story of an actual relationship.

But yes, the happy-photo-sexy time is a bit of pandering but it’s thankfully set in-story as the whole thing happens since the main character is part of a photography club.

I would love to experience the story firsthand myself, but that would require a translation of some sort, whether via a FAQ or an actual localization, the latter being quite improbable.

      • ShadowDivz

        There’s an anime. Just sayin’

        • Testsubject909

          How nice.

  • http://www.youtube.com/Lyonharvestmoonfan Eduardo Rocha

I really think they should this as a virtual game, like how Tecmo did with Atelier Totori. That way they could see if it sells and then later release more games like this to the western.

  • AlphaSixNine

I want this DLC so bad… D: Already have the game and playing it on my Vita. Finished 4 routes. Very fun game imo. XD
