Killer Is Dead’s First Print DLC Adds A Fourth “Mondo Girl” To The Mix

In Grasshopper Manufacture’s upcoming game, Killer is Dead, you’ll be playing as Mondo Zappa an assassin, who will be impressing ladies in Gigolo Mode missions. In our previous report, we detailed some of the DLC bonuses that’ll come with the first-print copies of the game. Japanese publishers Kadokawa follows up with more info.

The keywords for the premium first-print DLC are: Beauty, Beast, and Lingerie.

The Beast part of the three keywords revolves around the story of a mysterious beauty (Betty) who shows up at the Bryan Execution Agency, looking severely wounded and wrapped in bandages. She requests the agency to take out the man who harmed her. After accepting the request, Mondo and the others head to an old castle located in Europe.

The extra DLC mission is called “The Man Who Stole Blood”. Completing the mission will reveal Betty’s true identity.

The Beauty part is about Betty “The Lifeforcer,” where you’ll get a chance to seduce her in Gigolo Mode. However, she’s going to be one tough girl to lure. The DLC adds Betty as the fourth “Mondo Girl” after Natalia,  Scarlett and Koharu.

Finally, the third part, Lingerie, is about the mysterious pair of black sunglasses, called the “Super Mondo Eye” that allow you to look through the Gigolo Girls’ clothes to look at their hearts (and their bodies). However, it seems like Scarlett alone has some sort of immunity against the effects of the glasses.

Killer is Dead is slated for release on August 1st in Japan and a Summer release in North America for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

DLC waifus are the best IMO.

As much as I enjoy seeing hot chicks, I thought these spots are kinda cheesy… It was fun when they did it for the campy Lollipop Chainsaw, but I’m not sure if it works for Killer is Dead.. Anyway, the Jpn ver is still not up for pre-order, I hope the US ver would have dual track and include all these DLCs..
Must be hard for Jessica Nigri to work as a gaijin talent..

    • I don’t think it’s meant to be taken all that seriously. Just a low-budget, cheesy way to promote the game. I like it.

      • Aoshi00

I know.. but I alrdy have my mind set on getting this game from the previous trailers (w/ the cool cutscenes and arranged classic music).. frankly I’m not that interested in seeing this.. like I didn’t think No More Heroes would need silly cosplay promotion either.. I know they were going for the low-budget silly feel, just like Dream Club w/ the creepy guy in trenchcoat in sunglasses w/ the altered voice. Somehow I just don’t think these are too necessary to convince people to buy Killer is Dead.. I was actually skipping around watching the above video. And Jessica must have practiced pretty hard at her Japanese, previously she was only allowed to say a phrase or two and here she’s reading the DLC contents :)

I guess one reason I was a little put off by this was Killer is Dead came off to me as very classy and epic (femme fatale, classical music like Asura’s Wrath, etc), like James Bondesque maybe.. compared to Lollipop Chainsaw w/ cheerleader and zombies.. which in that case the silly approach totally fits.. I guess I’m just surprised by this..

        • You can argue lot’s of games don’t need the silly promotions they get but it’s not like they affect the final product. If you don’t want to watch them you can simply not watch them.

And uhm, “classy” is the last thing that came to my mind from the initial trailer and the subsequent ones. Just more crazy Tarantino type shit. I love it.

          • Asura

Tarantino inputs lots of class for at least large chunks of his movies…

          • Again I wouldn’t say class but it’s definitely clever and smart not just mindless and raunchy. To clarify, I don’t know how anyone could see “class” of the media and info released for Killer is Dead. It looks like another over-the-top and stylish action game. Nothing classy about it.

          • Aoshi00

Maybe it’s the killer in a suit, beautiful Mondo girls like Bond girls, him trying to seduce a girl (reminds me a bit of shoot em up w/ Clive Owen and Monica Bellucci), and the rearranged classic piece they used. Personally it just came off to me as classy (of course in a violent Suda kind of way) and epic, compared to the obviously campy and funny Lollipop Chainsaw, w/ a ditzy cheerleader killing zombies, w/ her boyfriend’s head, crazy sisters, and Elvis dad. And Mondo being more classy than say Travis perhaps who was an otaku looking to score..

I didn’t mean this kind of promotion offended me, I just mean this approach surprised me and personally I didn’t think it fits. I only chose to watch the video to check out the DLC contents they were talking about. Like for Catherine, they used real couples to talk about marriage, it fit the theme.. well I don’t know if this is Kadokawa or Suda’s idea..

This is just my opinion, I found this type of promotion to be more suitable for Lollipop Chainsaw than Killer is Dead is all.. I didn’t expect they would a similar approach for this as well, and don’t find it as funny as last time..

    • Brion Valkerion

Pretty sure thats the effect they were going for.

    • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

Remember when Suda games didn’t do this? FSR, Silver Case, Syndrome series…

  • Jessica Nigri needs to stop being so fabulous, it’s making me feel awkward in the pants area.

  • Asura

OK, I may as well ask here. Is there something more to the James Bond comparison beyond the name “Mondo” and a few suave scenes?

Because Suda’s main character in Flower, Sun, and Rain was also called Mondo, and he had to disarm a bomb threatening to blow up the island or whatever, but I don’t think he tied into Bond in any way either (though I haven’t beaten the entire game yet).

Where is this “Bond deconstruction” idea coming from, because it cannot be rationally coming from just the trailers alone…

    • Solomon_Kano

Suda himself has even brought up the connection to FSR, so the whole Bond deconstruction… yea, people are making that conclusion from the from the trailers alone.

Wears suit –> “Mondo girls” ~ “Bond girls” –> suave

Clearly, Suda’s deconstructing Bond. Clearly. Like so clear.

I said it before and I’ll say it again

    Episode 51?
    see what you did there

  • Kevin Schwarz

Ok, the more gals, the better. With a nice gameplay, screw the story, it will be funny, but not a great script or something. So, this game is meant to be good for my tastes.
