Mega Man X Charges Up For Wii U Virtual Console

By Spencer . May 16, 2013 . 2:02am

imageCapcom has Mega Man X on deck for a Virtual Console re-release on Wii U. (Perhaps, we should call this a re-re-release?) Mega Man X will be available on May 22 in Japan along with Glory of Heracles III: Silence of the Gods and Ikki from Sunsoft.

Pac-Man and Mappy from Namco Bandai are available now. Super Metroid is online too in all regions and it’s just 30 cents as part of the 30th Famicom anniversary promotion.

Super Metroid is not online in Europe yet. Should take another 4 hours.

    • Testsubject909

Oh hi Malek. Haven’t seen you in a while.

      • malek86

Well I still come pretty often. Not as much as before, but still. I guess I’m mostly on twitter nowadays.

        • Testsubject909

Yeah, I heard a lot of you folks migrated there.

          • malek86

Well, it’s not quite the same thing as here… we are mostly just messing around on Twitter :P

    • Magnus Eriksson

Is it here today? I tought it was tomorrow earliest?

  • Testsubject909

I’m sure this isn’t the sort of Megaman news a lot of people were hoping to eventually hear, but it’s better then a lot of other Megaman news I suppose.

That and… Lucky Japan. 30 cent for a fine game.

Can’t wait for a Mega man Maverick Hunter X2 or seeing Legends. Finally come out would be great

      • Solomon_Kano

They stopped the Maverick Hunter remakes, so don’t hold your breath on that. Legends… not impossible, but it’ll be a long time before they try touching that again.

        • dragoon_slayer12

Maverick hunter and power up series’ could return, they where only canned due to poor sales (thanks to it being on the psp in its first year or so). It wouldn’t surprise me, if they bring mega man back and it exceeds (or meets) their expectations, they try 1 more time on the 3ds (since it’s sales to date far exceeds the vita’s)

          • Solomon_Kano

If they were going to bring to Maverick Hunter and Powered Up back they’d have done it by now. The PSP went on to sell gangbusters and they still didn’t continue them, so I doubt they’ll bring that back on 3DS.

          • dragoon_slayer12

If they did bring it back on the psp, it would’ve most likely have been Japan exclusive. Remember, the psp is pretty much a bust in the US (can’t speak on world wide), and the only titles that seemed to really sell on it was established franchises NA considers successful (god of war, final fantasy, metal gear solid). Remember, compared to Japan, MH is pretty much niche in NA, while it’s the driving force out there. The 3ds is far more successful these past two years than the ds and psp combined in their first two years.

I think the main reason they didn’t bring it back (yet) is because they felt MM was irrelevant, and with ZX and ZXa sales somewhat “proving it”, they were afraid. I’m sure they wanted the graphical power equivalent of the psp to makes these games really pop (which they did). That’s why I hope whatever mega man projects they release are commercial success’, so they can bring back projects we want (legends 3),and what they initially wanted (Maverick hunter and powered up).

          • Solomon_Kano

And Capcom’s centered in Japan, so whether the PSP succeeded in the west or not wouldn’t have affected their ability to bring it back later if they had plans to. They could’ve done MHX2 in 2010 and been fine if they wanted to, but they chose not to.

MHX and Powered Up failed. Even after the PSP picked up (which they, themselves, made happen), they didn’t want to continue those remakes. I don’t see them doing that now either.

I also hope that their next Mega Man projects are successful though.

I was pretty excited until I saw the “in Japan.” I don’t have much
interest in replaying the original Megaman but I would snap up Megaman
    X.

    • Testsubject909

      I’d snap up Earthbound.

      • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Time to get a Wii U?^_^

        • Kaihaku

I got one after the “X” announcement. It was the same with the 3DS, all it took was the announcement of Fire Emblem Awakening to motivate me to invest in the hardware.

        • Testsubject909

Or… You know, stick with your working Snes from back in your youth.

      • Kaihaku

        I fully intend to.

  • stealth20k

    have it physically already

    • Testsubject909

      *high five*

  • MogCakes

What happened to “the whole year is a Megaman celebration”?

    • Kaihaku

      Capcom happened, unfortunately.

  • Repede91

Cool, not only is X my favorite SNES game. It will be the first VC game I get to upgrade.

Strange, though that I already owned F-Zero and Super Metroid I still had to pay 30 cents as the upgrade fee.

  • heartless141

Megaman Marverick Hunter X, the remake is much better :P

  • Christopher Nunes

I will buy this in a heartbeat if it comes out in the US… I LOVE Mega Man X! I played the heck out of the original on the SNES years ago, and though I love Maverick Hunter X, I will play this again for the Wii U.

  • William Cole

The Megaman X series was awesome in its own right. I wish they would do an X9 and X10 for Wii U and PS4.

This game ate up a lot of my childhood. Here’s hoping this game comes out to the Wii-U VC soon. I’d love to play this on the gamepad so I don’t have to bother messing with the TV or pulling out older systems.

    • Kaihaku

      It is nice.

  • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

Armor disappearance bug? I never had that.

  • HerosLight

    What.

Out of the billions of times I have played MMX, I’m sure such thing doesn’t exist.
