As much as I love everything about FFVI, Tomomi Kobayashi’s artwork is easily my favorite. Hideo Minaba’s is pretty awesome too.

  • Nice looks lovely

  • Pfantzypantz

I absolutely love when artists crossover like this, always fun

    • AuraGuyChris

Then Unchained Blades is perhaps your best game for that.

  • Solomon_Kano

Wow. These are great. I especially like Minaba’s. The image being split between day/night, Law/Chaos, and Tokyo/Mikado(?) is fantastic!

  • Mavalex

This stuff feels like poster material….

….someone call Atlus, they need to make these into posters

    • Alexander Marquis Starkey

      Get a FatHead Made

  • Farid Belkacemi

Hideo Minaba WINS ! :) (The one made by Tomomi Kobayashi is really great too).

    • Ultima-X

When was this suppose to be some competition? Aren’t they all good artworks.

      • Farid Belkacemi

Yep, but the one from H. Minaba is the best :p

    • puchinri

      I know, right? ;u;
      Only thing that’s lacking here.

  • Bec66

More RPG artists need to do this, like imagine how final fantasy would look in Inomata’s style or how tales would look in Kobayashi’s style.

    • LightZero

Actually recently Inomata did a design for Lightning a few months ago

      • Bec66

        Were can I find it?

  • RoxasTheUnknown1

Minaba’s takes the cake imo. At first glance it’s just a typical light dark image with the cast but as in true smt fashion it’s telling a lot.

  • puchinri

Absolutely splendid art all around. Kind of disappointed in Katsumi Enami’s though, given how dynamic some of their art is.

Yay for Inomata~! I always love seeing her art.

  • XxStoicmonkeyxX

I’d hate to be one of those people, but is it only me Hating the new Tales art style.

    • Hraesvelgr

      What new Tales art style?

      • I think he refers to Graces f artist one. Tht or Xillia srtstyle.

        • Hraesvelgr

That’s what I was assuming, but since Inomata has been doing Tales work since 1997 and Xillia is done by both Fujishima and Inomata, I really wasn’t sure.

    • InfernoCommander

There’s two artists my dood. One from the Symphonia team and one from the Destiny team. Inomata is from team Destiny (games like Graces, Hearts, Destiny), so maybe you just don’t like her artwork.

      • XxStoicmonkeyxX

Yeah this is what i mean, i mean the style is really okay, but i prefer symphonia style. I should do more research on the artists for the games but the new ones have honestly been very disappointing for me.

They are seeming to try some new graphic style and the gameplay seems to just floaty. Doesn’t seem as deep as the other games.

  • Tom_Phoenix

The first three are all preety good. If I really had to choose a single favourite, it would probably be Minaba’s. That said, Enami’s is alright and I love the style Kobayashi went with; it strongly reminds me of those ancient Japanese paintings, which is really fitting for a picture of Samurais.

I’m not a fan of Inomata’s, though. The demon is alright, but that moe look makes Isabeau seem like a little girl with an overgrown body. =/ Plus, compared to how lovingly detailed the other three are, her illustration comes off as quite plain by comparison.

  • Warboss Aohd

da first 2 are best…….i miss da SaGa Franchise, particularly 2.

    • Testsubject909

      When you say 2.

      Romancing SaGa or SaGa Frontier?

  • MrTyrant

I love the first one. Katsumi Emani is the one who also design the latest Trails and Ys right? that’s good pic too.

I would have asked for Kaneko’s drawing the characters in one picture at least haha.

  • Barrylocke89

Kobayashi and Inomata’s are my personal favorites here. I agree with everyone else, more companies should do this sort of thing.

  • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

Kobayashi’s picture is my favorite one because of the way it mixes orange and blue. It’s awesome!

  • It’s a shame the SaGa series have become the red-headed stepchild of Square Enix with such beautiful art and music. I actually expected Amano art but at least it’s not Nomura’s with the excess zippers and belts.

  • Detrimont

not sure if the girl is good or evil now

  • Anime10121

Please Minaba, if/when Ito does his next Final Fantasy, please do the art! Minaba is such an underrated artist at Square who is overshadowed by Nomura and Amano.

Love the idea for this tho and wish more companies would do something similar with their franchises, as its great to see different artists interpretations on certain characters/worlds.

    • Aoshi00

I know, so far only Amano, Nomura, and Yoshida Akihiko had been the chief character design for the main FFs & Tactics, I wish Minaba would design the chars for a main FF as well (and need Uematsu back for music).. The only games Minaba had a direct role for char design were FF9 (rendering Amano’s original design) and Archaic Sealed Heat for the DS.

I always like to see artists illustrate for other titles too (sometimes mangaka doodle to congratulate each other over a serialization milestone). I like the Minaba piece, but the one by Kobayashi Tomomi looks very good w/ water color, very exotic and unique. They should have Kojima Ayami the gothic Castlevania artist do one :) I’m not a huge fan of SMT though lol.. my absolute favorite artist duo used to be Araki Shingo/Himeno Michi of Saint Seiya (god rest Araki’s soul..)

    • Solomon_Kano

I dunno. I really like Minaba (he worked on my favorite FF, after all), but I wanna see Yoshida art for Ito’s next game.

Plus, it’s less likely that Minaba would be selected for a main FF, since he actually isn’t at Squenix anymore. He’s been freelance (with his own company, Designation) since sometime during XII’s development and the only work he’s done with SE since was some costumes in Dissidia 012 and Hope and some side characters’ looks in XIII-2.

  • Exkaiser

Hah, of course Inomata did the long-legged, short-haired girl. It’s one of her favorites.

But oh man, that Kobayashi piece. It’s lovely. Sharp, dynamic, stylistic, I am all over that.

  • Sephiroth420

now how about you guys work together and make a new rpg xD

    • Testsubject909

If they did that, I’d toss my credit card at them.

      Faster than tossing money.

  • ragingmerifes

Katsumi Enami’s looked cool as damn, like every other.

And I’m glad no one complained about not having one with Kaneko.

  • SaveTheDay

Does anyone here have the link to the full resolution pictures ? They all look great ! :D

  • Alexander Aubert

man, i wish George Kamitani is invited too

    • Neophoton

Would have loved to see that!

  • Neophoton

Liking them all, but namely Minaba’s~ <3 Would love to see him work on the next FF.

  • dragoon_slayer12

I’ve been contemplating whether to get the game or not. I liked the game play trailer I’ve seen, but I want that art book/strategy guide and soundtrack more than I want the game….

  • EverEndingStory

Love the concept for Inomata’s, but Minaba’s is just flat out gorgeous. Both approach the light/dark idea in their own way, and both are beautiful.

All of them are great though, each doing their own thing. Kobayashi’s has the feel of an old school manga cover art, while Enami’s looks like a promotional piece of the SMT IV anime. XD

  • ShootThatWay

For some reason I’ve always really liked Kobayashi’s works. She also has a website, named after herself. lol
I also like how she draws flowers in many of her artwork.

  • Testsubject909

    SaGa! Ah… how I miss you SaGa…

  • Hinataharem

    Where is Kaneko?

    *runs away*

    • Probably working on Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem.

  • Jesse Torres

    That’s pretty neat.

  • Rem Tokimiya

any way to get a hi-res version of those?
