By Spencer . May 31, 2013 . 12:48am

elshadVideo game publisher Ignition Entertainment became part of Disney when UTV was acquired. At that time Ignition had two original IPs, Dragon’s Crown which was sold to Atlus and El Shaddai.

Takeyasu Sawaki’s studio Crim announced they have completed acquisition of the El Shaddai IP from Ignition. This acquisition includes El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron which was released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and rights for sequel or prequels to El Shaddai. In a statement, Crim said they "will work with the Entertainment industry to develop a potential El Shaddai business moving forward." When El Shaddai was released Ignition planned to turn the game into a franchise.

Crim’s first project is a Sawakigraph Volume.02.5 El Shaddai rights acquisition commiseration book.

But also, that image looks kinda creepy.

That’s great, I hope they would make a sequel (not a cellphone game or spinoff), absolutely love the first game. I have the El Shaddai artbook, absolutely beautiful, Takeyasu’s style looks a bit like Amano..

      • EverEndingStory

Agreed. El Shaddai is similar to how I always pictured a 3D Final Fantasy game looking if they had used Amano’s flowy, surreal style.

I know, when I saw the trailers the fluid animation totally blew my mind and reminded me of what a full 3D Amano style game would look like. The more recent FFs are settled w/ Nomura’s style because his design was more easily implemented in 3D, but they really could do a true Amano game now. Imagine a new FF in El Shaddai graphics w/ Uematsu soundtarck. I like how intuitive the game was even though it felt very surreal. Not to mention some of the best memes, like “No problem, everything’s fine”. It’s funny Lucifel fell in love w/ his own voice (so sexy) and Enoch speaks no more than 2-3 lines :)

That art direction of the game is fantastic. I hope that carries on with the rest of the franchise. I do want a sequel, but at this point, I just want El Shaddai to have some more exposure first. Any exposure at all. :3

Sometimes, I feel like no one remembers this game. But I guess that’s no problem. ;__; Everything’s fine.

Yeah, I thought it was an underrated gem as well, definitely one of the most unique and stylish action games I’ve ever played (like the HUD-less screen the first time around). I really like the angel stuffs too. I hope we would get another console game in this style, not the cellphone bull to make a quick buck, or even anime adapation.. there were novels and spin off drama CDs alrdy.

I think this was even on sale on Games on Demand on XBL for 240 MS points several months back, but I alrdy have the disc and don’t have much room on my HDD, otherwise I would buy it digitally again too :)

never got to play the game

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

The last thing they did with the franchise (video game wise) was that social title, no? How did that end up? Good, bad?

  • Ninastars

This is great news. El Shaddai wasn’t stellar as a game but I feel like it had great potential and as it was was a memorable experience.

I’d be pleased in continuation to the franchise in maybe even another form than a game. Maybe anime or something like that.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

    El Shaddai was amazing,

  • Twilleppac

Wait… the company that skimped on the translation of Muramasa and almost screwed Vanillaware over with an unreasonable price and release date for Dragon’s Crown made El Shaddai???

    • Guest

      No, they were the publisher.

  • Aristides

    yesss, yessss :P

  • vileBrenman

I would buy a sequel or prequel to this masterpiece any day

  • Firekitty

This is amazing news…I’ll look forward to anything they decide to do with the property.

Maybe they could start by encouraging Squeenix to translate the manga officially so I don’t have to!

  • Testsubject909

And this reminds me. Though I played it, I don’t own it. I really should get around to getting my hands on a copy of El Shaddai.

  • Covnam

I’ve got this in my backlog so I haven’t played it yet, but it’s always nice to see a creator get control of there game.
