Date A Live: Rinne Utopia Is Sting’s Simplest Game Yet

By Spencer . June 7, 2013 . 12:47am

imageSting is known for making games that lean towards a difficult learning curve. I think that’s part of what makes Baroque, Hexyz Force, and Knights in the Nightmare fun to figure out. Recently, Sting has been working with Idea Factory and Compile Heart. Generation of Chaos: Pandora’s Reflection was essentially the DS/mobile phone game Yggdra Unison. Sting even said that to us when we talked to them.

Date A Live: Rinne Utopia is a project from Sting and Compile Heart based on the anime series of the same name. Players will date girls and… that’s it. Compile Heart revealed the only gameplay system which is picking which girl you want to talk to on either the city map or Raizen High School map. There are also movies of characters closing their eyes and breathing so they look more realistic.

Date A Live: Rinne Utopia comes out on June 27. Now that Sting is almost done with this hopefully we’ll see them return to the Dept. Heaven series.

Well… not sure why anyone was expecting otherwise. And Sting has already worked on visual novel ports anyway.

    • kroufonz

      this
sting already made some VN/galge before.

    • Chestnut Bowl

It makes sense, of course, but I was among the number who were hoping that Sting would include their usually interesting game design into the expected visual novel part.

  • landlock

It’s a really good anime tbh, love to play it. Not gonna happen though. :)

  • TheExile285

    lol

  • Anonymous

If it would work like Social Links in Persona 3/4, Then it would be cool

  • biskmater

Can we skip the needless commentary please? If you are displeased with the game they are making that’s fine, I love their work, but honestly I am happy as long as they are working on something, that doesn’t suck, and no, you have no evidence this VN sucks yet.

    • KnifeAndFork

      No

      • biskmater

        No…? No,what?

  • ChiffonCake

    …so it’s not a game, but a visual novel.

    I’m ok with this.

  • Aristides

SO when will we be getting a localization announcement? BUAHAHAHAHA oh Aristides you crack me up lol…

    • Renaldi Saputra

      nope

  • Kelohmello

Alot of needless bias for an article that shouldn’t have any. Sharing opinions is cool and all but I don’t think that’s the place to do it, considering you’re putting the game in a negative light this way.

    • KnifeAndFork

Don’t like it don’t read it.

      • Kelohmello

That logic doesn’t make sense. I have to read it to know I don’t like it. Are you serious?

        • amagidyne

          THEN UNREAD IT GEEZ

          • Kelohmello

…Understood. I’ll try my hardest to master time travel and make sure my past self never reads this article.

    • DyLaN

This. Just this very much. And to think one of the SE strength is the unbiasness in the article….

  • KnifeAndFork

Compile Heart: “Please make a simplistic easy game with no gameplay at all for us”
Sting: “But…we don’t know how to make a simplistic easy game with no gameplay at all”
    Compile Heart: “please?” *moe eyes*
    Sting: “O_o”

  • XiaomuArisu

    Second pic
    Happy Ends confirmed?

    • Narrator 1

I guess that depends on whether or not one considers ending up with Kurumi a happy ending.

  • Flandre Scarlet

Well I guess that means the game is as simple as the source material.

    • DyLaN

      Go watch Kurumi arc.

      • Flandre Scarlet

You’ll have to pay me to watch/read/play anything to do with harems.

  • pekikuubik

Unfortunately it’s hard to tell what’s going on at Sting now, since JaJa (pretty much the gameplay guru behind the Dept. Heaven games) isn’t allowed to update his development blog anymore (because ~PR reasons~).

So as much as I hate to say this, I’m always prepared to never see Dept. Heaven episodes III, V-VIII and X+. The games aren’t exactly blockbusters. :/

  • amagidyne

Compile Heart is the bot fly of video games.

    • M’iau M’iaut

At least in this case the wind was whistling ever so calmly though those skirts long before CH got involved.

  • DyLaN

In be4 complains abt the animation…. Oh wait the butthurt began ady.

Dat Kurumi. Kurumi arc is simply the best arc so far compare to the earlier arcs and too bad for those who dropped them.

  • Chestnut Bowl

Going straight for the Kururmi end.

    • ShadowDivz

What happens in her ending? Or is that covered in the anime?

      • Kelohmello

They’re assumably going to be original endings since the source story doesn’t have an ending yet.

  • HerosLight

All aboard the Kurumi route train.

  • brian

    Yes please.

  • ShadowDivz

I thought the anime ws based on the game.

    • Kelohmello

Anime is based on the Light Novel of the same name.

  • Keko

Excellent, now I can concentrate on Tsunako’s art and Kurumi more than ever!

  • http://www.youtube.com/Lyonharvestmoonfan Eduardo Rocha

Woohooo! Another game that won’t see light outside Japan!

  • ZekeFreek

    Compile Heart’s best gameplay yet.

    • Renaldi Saputra

best gameplay? i don’t think so..
      it’s just a VN I think

      • ZekeFreek

YES I KNOW. THAT IS THE JOKE.

        • Renaldi Saputra

or maybe you mean best “gameplay”
if you know what I mean

    • DyLaN

You guys complained CH games have bad gameplay and CH knows so they don’t include any gameplay just for you guys.

      • ZekeFreek

        Gee… how… thoughtful of them?

  • http://kissanime.com/MyList/102800 Jamie Platzer

Now we wait for it to not be a PS3 exclusive. Right? Its going to happen… Right?! (sadness ensues when i realize that it probably won’t happen)
