imageKonami will re-release Contra: Shattered Soldier as a downloadable PS3 game on the PlayStation Store this Tuesday. Originally released for PlayStation 2, Contra: Shattered Soldier is a 2D side-scrolling shooter that put players back into the shoes of Contra 3 hero Bill Rizer… who was frozen in a cryogenic sleep because he killed most of Earth’s population. Bill was released to find his former partner Lance who is leading a terrorist group called Blood Falcon.

Contra: Shattered Soldier was developed by an internal team at Konami in years. Prior to Shattered Soldier, Appaloosa Interactive developed Contra games like C: The Contra Adventure.

It’s incredible, one of the best games in the series. Prepare to die a lot, though: this shit is tougher than Hard Corps.
