Well so now the only game companies left for Next Gen are Sony and Nintendo.

    • As it should be. I’ve always been a Sony and Nintendo guy. Never had any use for Microsoft.

      • ZEROthefirst

Same, but I will admit that the original Xbox actually wasn’t a bad console. It had a large variety of games, and wasn’t mostly a FPS library console like the 360.

        • ddh819

there are a bunch of sega published xbox games that make me want to get a used xbox some day

      • Herok♞

So have I but now there is no need what so ever for Xbone.

    • Chim_era

Seems that way, I started playing with nintendo and my consoles were always sony or nintendo. I bought the 360 because it really is the most popular console here in europe ….. which I really don’t get :p
So hopefully good times are returning

However I’m not that convinced about the Wii U though. I get that it’s the console that stays put at the homebase and is familiar but that controller really doesn’t cut it for me.

      • Herok♞

The controller is really nice if you try it because it lets you do things with mutiplayer that were impossible before just try out Nintendoland.

  • ShinStar

See you guys at Xbone’s funeral..!

Gamestop would be perfect because used games is a huge part of their economy.

How to share used games on the PS4. Take a bow Sony.

    • Epic!

      • D H

Oh my god, this must be the best thing to come out of today. I don’t even use my facebook and I’m sharing it ^.^.

    • NANAandLIZZYfanatic

Although some1 pointed out the text at the bottom makes it sound like you must have PS Plus to play games online.
Which isn’t a MASSIVE deal but I’m hoping it was just misleading and not what they actually meant.

      • VietKnight

Yes it is required for PS4 multiplayer no big deal.

        • NANAandLIZZYfanatic

Well some people are going to be caught off-guard or most likely be unaware of that because some ppl only use Sony because it has free online. (And don’t watch E3 or keep up w/ the news as much.)

          • ZEROthefirst

Nice thing about PS+ though is that it’s cheap and it has A LOT of benefits. Unlike XBL where you’re literally just paying to use your internet connection a second time.

          • NANAandLIZZYfanatic

Yeah it won’t effect me too much but free online was one of my main pitches I used in the process of converting a few of my relatives/friends to buy a PS3 over a 360 lol.

          • ZEROthefirst

lol I won’t lie that was the whole reason I originally bought my PS3 (that and Killzone 2+3 and Gundam Extreme Vs. were just crying out to me).

          • Mr_SP

Though I wonder how “You need to have PS Plus to play online” and the resulting severe increase of subscribers will affect available games. I mean, it’s basically having a subscription for your online, then giving all your players a free game every month. I’m not sure if any game made available on PS Plus will ever make a profit again, since everyone will have it.

          • Asura

I am not getting a PS4 for that reason alone. Deal broken.

          • NANAandLIZZYfanatic

            lol Your loss.

          • Asura

Thus far it will be nothing but a gain …to my wallet. 3 years down the line we’ll see if I’m tempted to reconsider based of the number of games I’m interested in (right now there’s none).

          • NANAandLIZZYfanatic

Well it’s only $50 and you get free games, but yeah if there isn’t rly any games you want then why pay? But then again if there aren’t really any games you want then you wouldn’t need to buy PS+ because you wouldn’t be playing it online.

    • Symbol de Au

Oh crap I blinked. How do you do it?

Still kind of high, but it’s both cheaper than the Xbox One and is not as high as last time, so kudos Sony. =)

Edit: IGN also agrees with what I have confirmed:

    • neocatzon

same here, I’m also wondering what did they mean with that last line.

    • Symbol de Au

There had to be SOMETHING wrong with it.

    • Marcelo Gouvea

Well, that’s a shame… but let’s wait to see their final word about it.

      • Cloud_ST

Agreed. At least I was planning on subscribing to Plus anyway, the free games are pretty cool.

    • Wesley Kenneth Houpt Mattingly

You need PS+ to play multiplayer games, but otherwise have access to online features. Just listen to what they said. And PS+ has so many other perks its ridiculous. Plus they said PS4 will have PS+ day one and have a free game every month starting with Driveline.

      • Asura

I still don’t want a PS4 if they’re going to charge me just to have the ability to play online multiplayer 5 times a month.

      • Solomon_Kano

  • XYZ_JolteonZ980

I got my preorder in, much higher than my 249.99 expectation though ;(

    • M’iau M’iaut

What were you smoking when you reached that expectation?

    • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

What?! Even the Wii U didn’t launch that low. What makes you think Sony would dive that low?!

  • hadjimurad

Thank you, Sony. You made it a great day for gamers.

    • hadjimurad

you got me sounding like a fanboy, sony.

  • Sergio Briceño

Really good pricing. No one can say they didn’t learn their lesson.

MS’ on the other hand… It’s as pricey as it was at the beggining of the last generation. Maybe they didn’t expect Sony to go all the way, but still… It’s sad they are pricing their console so high with all the hate it’s getting. I can only figure people want it less after hearing the PS4’s price.

    • ZEROthefirst

The price and all of the annoying problems already with it are enough reason for people to stay clear of the XboxOne2. It’s really just a glorified TV cable box that only happens to cost $500.

      • Sergio Briceño

Come to think of it. For anyone still undecided after seeing both the Xbox One and PS4 have amazing exclusives I think the best news from Sony’s conference is that the Wii U will very likely have a price drop this holiday season. Great news actually, I was planning to get one eventually for Mario/Zelda/Metroid, but I might get it sooner than expected.

  • oresamawasugoi

paying for online play sucks. O.ô price ok, design ok, conference well so so, details about bundles packages, details about hardware I/O lacking….hardest thing: no online play for me anymore

    • ZEROthefirst

It’s only PS+ and it’s cheap and very worth it. There’s no monthly fee, just pay the one time fee for however long you want it and you get PS+ on your PS3, 4 and Vita. Giving you access to plenty of free games, discounts on things and the like.

      • sandra10

It’s only a one time fee if you don’t want to renew your subscription. But you’ll lose your multiplayer access that way as well as access to those free games.

      • oresamawasugoi

problem here is, me and my waifu aren’t into download only stuff. so PS+ advantages aren’t really for us. i dont download to play something, i wouldnt “rent” a game online to play it as a download. we are are some “casual multiplayer” gamers. we are pretty core gamers when its about offline singleplayer, offline multi player coop. i play 3-4 times a year a multiplayer. so paying for it doesnt cut it for me ^-^”. my waifu is a xbox girl, she ownes a xbox1(black behemoth) and the x360 halo edition (she is a big halo nerd, Halo 1,2,3,4,ODST, Reach has them all played them all, except halo wars), but she never played online with the x360 because of the XBL Gold stuff. with this move there is no online multiplayer for her at all. it might be great for you, but we are just a freak niche minority who is a bit sad and disappointed about.

    • You don’t need to pay for online.

    • Ni

Still a better deal than the Xbox live BS with gold and silver membership. You turn into a PS+ member to play online and get load of contents for free for only $5 a month

  • DrakeClawfang

Microsoft just lost the next round of Console Wars, and the light hasn’t even turned green yet

          • M’iau M’iaut

Have you got a twitter? Many of the old guard you would recognize have moved that way. We even have folks from Xseed and Aksys who drop in!

  • TheExile285

Good price. Question for me is memory. Xbone is $500…. with 500GB

Sony stated nothing about memory. I’m guess they will do the same thing they did with Vita. I just hope the prices aren’t as ridiculous.

    • I bet it will also be 500 GB.

      • mirumu

The Xbox One’s hard drive is a custom design, so probably more expensive than what Sony’s using.

        • Baxter Stompy

Sure just like Xbox 360 was a special casing with a normal Notebook Hard Drive. The only thing that was special was the their Partition for Xbox 360 to recognize

          • mirumu

I’m just quoting Microsoft here. They claimed themselves that it is “custom”, “designed in-house”, and cannot be removed of replaced.

We won’t know for sure until people start pulling them apart.

    • Solomon_Kano
      • TheExile285

        Ah, thank you kindly, Kano

        • Solomon_Kano

          No prob, man.

  • I have gift cards from last year ready for the PS4, been saving them since my birthday

  • Still no official date huh. I am ok with the price point. Better than Xbone ($100 better).

  • All right then Sony did impress me and I have decided to buy their new PS4. Price is fine for me and the games that they showed wowed me especially FFXV and KH3 and others that were shown heck I was smitten with Destiny as well. Consider me Day One for PS4.

  • sandra10

That’s a very attractive price. Now, how gutted is it for them to only have one model priced at $400? I’d like a sizeable hard drive, you know. Plus games take up a ton of space especially when they’re uncompressed like UC3.

    • Testsubject909

I believe rumors are the HDD is 1TB.

  • eilegz

hopefully there wont be a delay, but they just owned M$ in many ways. Maybe M$ need to rollback

  • Mozendo

I watched the whole thing, but I always left the room for a few minutes to grab snacks. Any word on backwards compatibility?

    • ZEROthefirst

Not that I saw/heard tonight. It’s only day one of E3 though so I’m sure they’ll say more later.

    • sandra10

No change since when they said that the PS4 wasn’t backwards compatible 4 months ago. :P

They’re trying to show off Gaikai as a suitable replacement buuuut I don’t think too many PS3 games will be on it besides the big names.

      • Mozendo

        Ah, thanks for the info. Sucks though, but oh well since the PS4 will be releasing soon I’ll assume the PS3 will be getting another price cut so it’ll be the perfect time to get one (finally). I’m sorry Sony ;___;

  • ResidentMetroid

Well that’s good for PS4, sucks that the Xbox1 is a disappointment. Here I wanted to play Killer Instinct and Dead Rising 3 :(

    • Marcelo Gouvea

Believe in ports, my friend. Believe in ports.

    • Mr_SP

The PS3 did get Dead Rising 2, so… Maybe?

  • M’iau M’iaut

Guys we can discuss the system without reverting to dumb fanboi antics.

    • Colonel Custard

I want to believe M’iau M’iaut that we can.

    • LaserVision

You’re 90 comments too late. I’m sorry, but the childishness on display here is embarrassing. You’d think Sony ended the financial crisis with the way people are acting.

    • Ferrick

sorry, but with flames this big, it’ll be hard to extinguish

    • Marcelo Gouvea

It’s just the heat of the moment, it’ll pass. Let the kids have their fun, then we clean it up.

      • M’iau M’iaut

I’m letting plenty of excitement go on. It’s the next tier of stuff I’m asking end.

    • Astrotrain

      Let us enjoy this.

    • LaserVision

I also have to add that until gamers themselves grow up, negative stereotypes about them and the the hobby of gaming WILL continue to persist.

      • M’iau M’iaut

On that I actually agree. But I can either teach, recommend and show better paths or add to the angry stupidity — I choose the former.

    • CirnoLakes

I don’t know, what counts as “fanboy antics” and what counts as an honest appraisal of Microsoft’s position in the gaming hardware industry.

I don’t want to pretend that I don’t think, that in this generation, Sony will come in first, Nintendo will come in second, and that Microsoft will come in a distant third.

  • LaserVision

The fact of the matter is, Microsoft is in fact, the antichrist and when the Xbox One launches the apocalypse shall begin. But when the PS4 launches, angels shall descend from the sky to save the worthiest of souls.

I prefer the PS4’s approach to gaming.

But given how the internet has suddenly started worshiping Sony, (an electronics company for Christ’s sake) what they should really be doing is starting a cult. I think Sony Cult division will be way more profitable than the TV division but less than Entertainment unit, but hey, anything to get back into the black, right? edit:spelling

        • Ferrick

well… did you insult anyone ? because comments don’t just get deleted here and there just simply because of little profanity

        • M’iau M’iaut

By now Sir, you should be well aware of those magic words. Our goal is to insult no one, no matter what the side taken.

          • DarthSithZero

    • CirnoLakes

The Wii U has at least a little bit of a chance to pick up. But I do think that the PlayStation 4 is going to be the biggest seller of this generation, including in the long run.

I think that the Wii U is going to trail behind but at least do moderately well enough. Maybe like another Gamecube. What I’m seeing and anticipating here is a repeat of the sixth generation of video game consoles.

Except that this time, rather than the XBOX doing poorly due to being an obscure newcomer. Is failing because of horrible anti-consumer policy that will scare the majority that catch wind of it away. The worst of this for Microsoft is how they’ve permanently stained their reputation. I don’t think any amount of apologizing or fixing at this point would be able to give them a hit like they had with the XBOX 360 again any time soon.

With the way that companies like Atari and SEGA struggled to stay relevant in this industry, I don’t know that Microsoft will ever be able to make it back in. At least not in the next ten years. Then again, time changes everything, in 40 years maybe Atari will be an important force in video games again? Microsoft has certainly destroyed their position in this industry for now.

      • I think the Wii U will do fine against the competition. It’ll probably sell more than the gamecube at least and it’s definitely a more attractive platform compared to Xbox One. I don’t know if we’re going to see huge blockbuster franchises, but I think it will get enough third party support to build a healthy system.

      • Grape Monet

The Wii U will be fine. It’s cheap, it has Nintendo games, and apparently they’re going for indies as aggressively as Sony is. I doubt we’ll see the likes of FFXV or Kingdom Hearts III on the system, but there’s always Monolith Soft and that Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem crossover. I do expect PS4 to get the lion’s share of third party support, however.

        • CirnoLakes

Yeah, that’s pretty much my thoughts on the Wii U.

It’s hard for any Nintendo system to do too horribly just because of how much Nintendo software will be on it.

And with that price, it’s still competitive with the PlayStation 4. The Wii U and the PlayStation 4 both have two markets carved out. The Wii U still appealing to the cheaper market that bought the Wii. And the PlayStation 4 being a more enthusiast system towards a more enthusiast market.

I can only hope that market the Wii U manages to carve is larger than the Gamecube.

  • SetzerGabbiani

Interesting to see that Sony is willing to eat such a huge part of the cost to make the price palatable. Good job.

  • I guess I don’t need to say that I’ve already pre-ordered it.

    But I’ve already pre-ordered it.

  • CirnoLakes

So that’s already another advantage that Sony has. Neither the XBOX One or the PlayStation 4 are that powerful(it doesn’t cost much to build a computer more powerful), and this is close to the price range I had already guessed for months that the system would be.

It turns out, it is, in fact, close to the amount I figured was reasonable for these computer parts. And somewhere between $300-400 for these computer parts is about right.

The Wii U and PlayStation 4 now both have features and prices that people want. Though the Wii U has some pretty darn good competition in price range and also hasn’t done well with its head start.

In comparison, the XBOX One is like another 3DO. An overpriced Electronic Arts project. Except this time even more horrific. The 3DO was an overpriced Electronic Arts project that never got any games. But this has active DRM the likes of which that generation never saw. It really could be the worst console of all time.

I have to give my support to Sony for doing many things right in comparison. Reasonably priced, powerful, user friendly, and doesn’t appear to be DRM stricken.

  • Shadowman

I guess I can call this my future Christmas gift.

    • Mantiskilla

LOL relying on it being a christmas gift. Good luck with that my friend. Just save your allowance, or paycheck and buy it yourself as a preorder. Save the heartache if you don’t get it. My suggestion of the day. There will be once less Xbox One and PS4 purchase from me as I’ve decided to bow out of the console race. Not enough time now with international work travel so PC and handheld gaming will be all I need going forward

  • fayt255

Every time I see pictures of the PS4 it keeps reminding me of the PS2 lol. I’m glad to see a more affordable price tag this time around.

  • DarthSithZero

By the way does the PS4 comes with a HDD? because I don’t remember if they mentioned that, It could be a problem if you have to buy a $399 Console and $99 HDD

    • Ferrick

normally they do, like the ps3, it came with a HDD

      • DarthSithZero

But how much storage it have?

        • Ferrick

rumor has it that its either 500gb or 1 tb

          • DarthSithZero

Wow thats cool 5 times more than the original PS3, Now I only wish to Install games on HDD

  • transferstudentx

the ps4 is the best gaming system a gamer can buy with his money the xbox one is just a brick

  • Although I don’t support or even like to engage in console wars, I do have to say this. Why would anybody in their right mind buy Xbox One after this? Unless there is some sort of catch with PS4 that Sony isn’t letting on to right now, I really can’t understand why consumers would want to buy Xbox One instead of PS4, unless they were simply ignorant.

Regardless, the price hit the sweet spot. I anticipate lots of happy gamers this holiday.

  • NANAandLIZZYfanatic

    Wait wait wait….
I’m not techy when it comes to specs but am I reading this right, only 8GB of memory on the PS4?

My 120 GB PS3 has to have crap deleted everytime I rent a game pretty much, obviously that’s over a large span of time, but still!

If it truly is only 8 GB maybe I should wait for the next version (but I REALLY doubt I will lol), hopefully extra hard-drives won’t cost too much.

Wait tho, doesn’t PS+ come w/ a bunch of extra storage on Cloud or something?

Well Apparently it’s 500GB, this article makes me even more lost about what I was trying to read in the specs then lol.

    • CirnoLakes

That is 8 GB of short term memory. Which is a lot, even more most computer games 4 GB of RAM is plenty. And for graphics cards 1 GB is usually pretty impress. And 4GB is enthusiast level way above 1080p intended.

The hard drive capacity isn’t listed there. What you’re looking at is the short term memory.

The main criticism of the PlayStation 4 was the short term memory of the system. Which was one of the drawbacks of the system and a common complaint for most developers. Sony has addressed that with this overkill memory. Which will be far, far more than most developers need.

      • NANAandLIZZYfanatic

lol You keep adding more but I still have no clue what you’re talking about, thanks though. I’m finding a bunch of new articles coming out stating it has a 500 GB hard drive so we’re good.

        • CirnoLakes

          It’s basic computer 101

There are different types of memory that computers use. The PlayStation 4 is basically a computer with a Sony developed operating system on it.

There are two types of memory that computers have. Long term storage which comes in spinning discs, and SSDs. Then, there is short term storage, or RAM, which there is RAM which hooks directly into the motherboard, or RAM that is pre-latched onto graphics cards. The PlayStation 4 appears to share graphics RAM for other tasks.

What it amounts to, is that the 8 GB you’re seeing is nothing like a hard drive and has nothing to do with what you store games on. And has everything to do with the performance of the system and how demanding of games can be developed for the PlayStation 4.

Short term memory or RAM is something that isn’t to hold items in the long term. But instead something that can be drawn on constantly for immediately but temporary storage. And is important for graphics intensive games because there will be a lot of polygons to store on the screen at one time. Basically, in video games, RAM is for things like what your game is showing on screen instantaneously, not the game itself.

Hard drives are what is holding your game, RAM is what is displaying your game.

In short, 8gb of ram makes your computer “faster” D: and it’s pretty god for a console.

    • The 120GB you’re refering to is used for storage

The 8GG of memory willl be used for temporary storage games and services need to function

        Ummm sure lol.

But I see a bunch of brand new articles saying it’s 500 GB of storage so we’re all good now.

        • You were comparing 120 GIG of hard drive space to 8 GIG’s of RAM, I was clearing it up for you

          • NANAandLIZZYfanatic

Well you were trying to, I still really have no clue what you’re talking about though lol. Thanks for trying though, just wanted to make sure it wasn’t 8 GB of hard drive space, but I saw articles soon after I posted. (Guess I could have just deleted my comment…)

RAM is temporary memory. Along with a CPU and a GPU this memory ads to the power of a system.

Hard drives are a kind of slow memory for storage. RAM is meant to be faster but smaller storage that can quickly be used instantaneously. In the case of video games, it’s what takes the games stored on your hard drive or disc, and outputs them to a large resolution for your screen.

Your hard drive can’t do this, because it is slower than RAM. RAM is like a middle-person between your CPU and your hard drive. Temporary communication storage for information that needs to be communicated as fast as possible.

It’s a difference between long-term and short term storage. Hard Drive storage is what stores your saves and games and such, and that’s probably going to be several hundred GB. When you see loading screens, that’s when RAM is coming into play – it’s moving files to the RAM so it can look at them faster and easier, and Sony have announced that there’s going to be 8GB of it.

8GB of VERY FRICKEN’ FAST GDDR5 at that. Compared to the slow as molasses DDR3 in the Xbone. Oh deary me :)
