ff2odaSquare Enix Odaiba Expo 2013 will let Final Fantasy fans try a couple of titles in July. Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIV, Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster, and Slime Coin Pick Up will be playable between July 13 to September 1.

All of these games including Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII are slated for release in Japan this year. Check out our impressions of the Square Enix’s single character RPG game here.

There’s only one solid reason they postponed LR:FFXIII to 2014 and that’s because they bring Versus XIII into the picture. If they don’t, then…

    • Vesperion

Oh really? I figured it was because they wanted to get out FFX HD this year, so why bring them out so close?

    • Anime10121

Sorry, but there is no feasible reason financial or otherwise, to release Vs. this year (even if its 100% complete).

First of all LR:FFXIII has only been delayed in the west, and that’s due to the next gen consoles releasing in generally the same time frame they had planned for it.

Second, LR:FFXIII IS still being released in Japan this fall, so they would not release 3 major Final Fantasy games within a 3 month period, or a single financial quarter.

Third, speaking of Financial Quarter’s, they would not release three of their biggest titles in years in the same Fiscal year, it would make successive years look like failures, as they would not be able to emulate such success for a long time coming.

I’m not explaining this to try and sound cruel or anything, but I’ve seen a major influx of people who seem to believe that the reason LR got delayed, is for VS. to become a launch (window) title for the PS4, but however nice it would be, it just CAN NOT happen that way as Square is still a business and needs to make operational decisions as such.

      • BenderIsGreat

        But… but… they never have before….

        • Anime10121

They have, many fans just dont agree with them.
Smartphone games, small investments for large profit, while I personally hate the decision, it makes sense business wise

Handheld games last gen- again smart for the same reason as smartphone games

Multiple Final Fantasy XIII sequels- smart since they already have many assets available and have experience animating the characters

No Final Fantasy 7 remake- again smart- people either through their nostalgia, fail to realise how large a Final Fantasy 7 remake would be if they made it with today’s graphical standard. With all the locations, characters, NPC’s, monsters, voice acting, etc. It would become one of the largest (if not THE largest) video games ever created, and all for what, a remake that not many people would buy new at full price on the basis that they’ve already played it (and I guarantee you, the 10 million sales that the original got wouldnt be 1/5th of the size now).

In fact, in today’s video game industry, it would be smarter for them not to make big budget AAA games at all, considering how flaky game communities are, and how hard it is to make a return on investment.

As I said, we the fans may not agree with many of their decisions, but we are also not running a multimillion dollar company. They make decisions off of what makes sense business wise, and not all the time does that correlate to what fans (or even often times their employees) want from the company.

  • Coeurl

Don’t worry, guys. I got this.

    *obligatory Versus XIII inquiry*

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

While they may have something behind the scenes going on, I’m pretty sure we wouldn’t see anything else than these titles on display anyway. Nothing earth-shattering, moving on… =/

  • Tom

You know what? I don’t care if they show anything about VS-XIII. If
they show anything I might get hyped but if they have it at E3 that
doesn’t mean we’re instantly going to get it. It will still mean we have
to wait months until they release it. VS-XIII is starting to become a
    cruel joke…

    • Anime10121

Months? How about at least a year and a half (Vs. aint coming at LEAST until next fall).

But its pretty much guaranteed to be there now.

    • BenderIsGreat

What if they’re just holding onto it until the big PS4 unveil? Eh? Eh?

      • Tom

They won’t “wait” because the PS4 unveil will be first and the SE presentation will come later.

        • BenderIsGreat

(checks to see if he typed that last one in Mandarin) Right, so like I said, what if they’re waiting until the unveil. Of the PS4. On Earth.

          • Tom

Okay-okay, I was a bit harsh. I’m just trying not to get too excited, even though they want us to be.

  • BenderIsGreat

Is Lightning in XIV? If not, then I have no interest.

    • Ferrick

of course it is in FFXIV… wait, you are talking about the spell right ?

      • BenderIsGreat

    • Sure! With DLC chapters and all!

E3 gonna be great and apparently nomura is attending aswell.

  • DemonShadowX

There’s an image that leaked showing FFXV (With VersusXIII’s title art) and possibly KH3 for PS4. No word if this is fake or not yet.

    • BenderIsGreat

Rolling it to XV makes sense. The XIII brand is all about Lightning anyway.

And me staring at her ass as she does that walk.

    • HerosLight

Stop playing with my feelings ):

      This HAS to be fake.

  • Mnstrzero00

Does anyone know of a good channel on youtube for watching ffxiv gameplay?

    • Yuta Takemoto

If you mean streams of the beta and the like, there won’t be any. They’ve been pretty clear on that for the rest of beta. Streaming beta stuff during testing is an automatic ban. Which is bad because people can lose 1.0 accounts permanently doing that

RPG game, “role playing game game”
Does that look or sound awkward?
    It it just me?
