BlazBlue: Chronophantasma Will Not Be Released For Xbox 360

By Spencer . June 12, 2013 . 12:07am

image Earlier today, Siliconera met with Aksys games and BlazBlue producer Toshimichi Mori. We talked about a bunch of topics and one of them was why Arc System Works skipped the Xbox 360 version of BlazBlue: Chronophantasma.

All of the other main BlazBlue titles are multiplatform games and since BlazBlue is developed on PC hardware first it can be ported to both systems without much of an issue. After asking the question to Arc System Works, the company’s president Minoru Kidooka, jokingly said it was an Aksys question. A representative from Aksys bounced me back to Arc System Works and said it was a question for them.

I pressed the question further and explained I understood while an Xbox 360 version might not be viable in Japan, in North America and Europe there are fighting game fans that enjoy playing on Xbox 360 with their friends on Xbox Live. Kidooka smiled and repeated again that’s a question for Aksys.

BlazBlue: Chronophantasma will be released in Q1 2014 for PlayStation 3. We’ll have more from our Arc System Works interview soon.

  • Kintama

Are they trolling Xbox players ?

    • Damarius Wingfield

      *back of mind*:(Of course, silly).

    • psycho_bandaid

I think Spencer was getting trolled, actually.

  • Strid

I think by now everyone is pretty sick of Microsoft’s shit, no? I wouldn’t be putting anything out on their platforms either, customers be damned.

    • Astraye

I think too, they deserve that.

    • neogeno

It kinda sucks that xbox fans don’t get to play because of Microsofts business models. I even feel a little pissed FOR them.

      • yo1234

You capitalized the wrong word for emphasis but i agree. i feel bad for 360 people. If this was ps4 and xbox one i would understand since it’s an entirely new console. but this…. oh wells.

    • The Watcher

      This is 360 not X1,

      • Strid

I pluralized the word “platform” for a reason.

        • The Watcher

          cool story

    • Tee Niitris

I hate that 360 owners may not get the latest installment. The Xbone may be a total dud, but the 360 is a fine console (I’m planning on buying one soon). Hopefully Aksys will work something out.

However, this is a indication of the fading confidence that smaller publishers who make/distribute “Japanese games” have in Microsoft. Can’t say I’m too surprised.

      • Tre W

“Indication? If anything, I would say the writing was on the wall for a couple of years now.

I mean, when even the likes of Koei Tecmo have been picky when it comes to the 360 getting Musou/Warriors-related content here lately? It’s not a good sign. And I think that at this point, most smaller/mid-tier Japanese developers (such as ASW and Koei Tecmo) are just going to do more to consolidate their followers on Sony’s brand, instead of trying to justify the need for porting to MS’ as well.

Of course, the main thing to see is if this will roll over GGXrd, as well. Whatever they do with that game will likely be the best indicator we have for their future plans, let alone whatever Mori wants to do for his supposed “PS4-level fighter”.

        • http://www.ihasnowebsitez.com Satonaka CP-Four

          KT sucks in general.

  • 愛憎

I probably would have gotten all my fighting games and arcade stick for PS3 instead if they warned me earlier :(

    • midgard229

they did warn you earlier with that horrible controller design lol.

that and barely anyone played fighters on the 360, most hardcore fighters stuck with ps3

    • Testsubject909

I think the bad D-padDisc on the 360 controller was a good enough sign that your serious fighting game should’ve been on PS3 or would’ve fared better on the PS3.

      • Mike Pureka

Unless of course you actually take this stuff seriously, in which case you don’t play with a controller at all. :P

        • Astrotrain

          What a nice joke.

        • Kelohmello

Not true at all. Some of the best fighting game players out there play on controller. There’s actually inherent advantages in both controller and stick that are different from eachother. It’s just a matter of your proficiency.

          • Mike Pureka

The vast minority of the best fighting game players in the US play on controllers. The VAST minority of the best fighting game players in the world play on controllers.

“Some of the best” is giving controller players way more credit than their numbers merit.

          • M’iau M’iaut

Let’s not go round and round here folks. A built from scratch stick system is still a controller.

          • Mike Pureka

Okay. Fine. Sorry. “Control pad”. As in “the thing that ships with the system”.

          • Kelohmello

It’s still wrong to say people who don’t take it seriously don’t play on controller. Fact: You can be proficient with controller over a stick. Fact: You can be world-class level with it and win with it. Also fact: There are benefits to using pad over stick.

  • PoweredByHentai

Do we have a North American release date for Chronophantasma yet?

    • Go2hell66

      nope they just said 2014

      • PoweredByHentai

        Aww, okay.

  • Go2hell66
  • Solomon_Kano

That’s a hilariously good answer lol.

  • ResidentMetroid

    How disappointing…

  • Kintama

Looks like i’ll have to get a PS3 now

    • Testsubject909

      I take it you’re a 360 owner.

They don’t cost much nowadays. You should aim for a small HDD one to save extra money since you can easily upgrade the HDD with any off the shelf Laptop HDD.

As for the controller, if you prefer the shape of the 360 controller, there are third party controllers for PS3 shaped like 360 controllers.

      • Kintama

Thx I was planning to buy one of those

  • Arizato

Wow… This sucks. I own both conoles. But I have friends who are big Blazblue fans and they only own an Xbox 360. Sad news…

    • Aoshi00

same here.. had the first 2 Blazblue on 360, now have to get the 3rd one on PS3 breaking the collection :(..

  • https://www.facebook.com/OperationHotblood?ref=hl HeroOfGames16

Did Kidooka just troll the Xbox 360 gamers? “U Mad Bro”.

  • sunK1D

One less sale for them. I have BB:CS and was looking forward to this.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/xxHiryuuxx Tohsaka

The PS3′s been out long enough and is cheap enough now. If you’re not wanting to break your BB streak, you might want to consider an investment. I’m certain there’s more than just BB that would fuel a purchase of a PS3 for you by now.

  • Tu’Ron Wolf Jamison

They cannot do this to me… I can’t play BB on the PS3 due to the awkwardness of the controller in my hand… and EVERY one that I know that actually plays BB has it on the 360…all of their fighters are on the 360. Microsoft lost their chance of having me for next gen…and I’ve been with them since the O.G Xbox…Good thing I actually have a PS3, cause Microsoft is pushing me further away….CronusX to the rescue.

  • artemisthemp

Blazblue not coming to Xbone confirmed :), since it will nr. 10 on Sales chart in Japan :)

  • http://geekorner.wordpress.com/ Geekorner

Wait, the real question is, if it’s developed on PCs, why isn’t there a PC version? :O

I mean, who needs Hit Box when you have a proper keyboard? :)

    • Alexander Marquis Starkey

That lack of interest on PC?

      • http://geekorner.wordpress.com/ Geekorner

It’s just the most popular “console” in the world with the most players ;)

        • http://eonhack.blogspot.com theclaw

It had terrible lack of marketing effort.
At least In the US. Here original PC version calamity trigger was sold exclusively as a download, by the oft-criticized Games for Windows Live.

          • http://geekorner.wordpress.com/ Geekorner

            “Games for Windows Live.”

Well, that explains everything. Look why I mentioned they need to like Gaben. Go on Steam, rake in monies.

    • coax

      They really don’t like microsoft.

      • http://geekorner.wordpress.com/ Geekorner

They just need to like Gaben! :)

      • Testsubject909

I don’t blame them if this is true.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/xxHiryuuxx Tohsaka

There’s versions if you look and know what you’re doing.

Of course, you can’t pay for something that doesn’t have a price tag on it.

  • Carabutifarra

    No problem.

  • Alexander Marquis Starkey

So no one actually said no? It’s more like they are dodging the question. Who knows…

    • Testsubject909

More like a match of tennis or ping-pong with the journalist as the ball

  • Minos

    Bu… but…It has guns!

    • Testsubject909

      Is it First Person?

  • Yuriangels

    will thats to bad!!! :)

  • r0gamer940

I don’t know where to ask this question so I will ask it here. Are there any other atlus, aksys, marvelous usa or nis america game localisations announced? no love for vita games?

    • MrSirFeatherFang

ertrian odyssey millennium girl was announced for NA coming this fall.
I’m sure you’re not interested in Atlus USA’s non-japanese games, but that’s pretty much it as far as I know.

    • yo1234

Only games for the vita/psp coming out so far are games announced before e3. I may be wrong but i heard that sony will unveil some games at gamescon

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Leafy_Cam Leafhopper

Considering that no one buys it for the 360 in Japan and most consoles use PS3′s at tournaments and it sells more on Sony platforms, I am kinda not surprised, of course I think some of that Xbox One stuff is involved as well.

  • http://amc9988.deviantart.com/ amc99

As long as they release it on vita one day xD

  • Anonymous

I’m wondering if the next BlazBlue installments will be on the Wii U or not

  • Eder García

nobody is playing P4A on xbox live, BBCS: EX is not available in some countries in the marketplace, these are some examples of why Arcsys is not releasing BB CP on the 360 imo

    • Haseyo

Hell, even on PS3 P4A seems pretty dead to me. Whenever I do go online, I always fight the same three people over and over again.

      America = UMvC3, sadly.

  • fireemblembeast

    It’s a Moriya Shrine conspiracy :P

  • Kelohmello

I didn’t expect this one to be 360 anyways. They were being pretty ambiguous about it from the get go and that was always a sign to me they pretty much had no intentions of it. They know where their market lies.

  • Weird Al Yankovic

Wait, so will there be a PC version this time around??? Please tell me you didn’t skip this question and it’ll be answered in the next part of this interview…

  • http://www.ihasnowebsitez.com Satonaka CP-Four

cause “360 aint got ghames! 500 dollas aint shit to chad warden”

  • http://fuzzbuzzwar.tumblr.com/ Zeidust

I’m not surprised. I’ll have a PS3 by then. Honestly since this game looks like it may be ending (or slowing), It would be nice to give us a PC release.

  • http://geekorner.wordpress.com/ Geekorner

And what makes them better on consoles?
The controllers? Arcade Sticks for the most part work with computers, and there are XBox/Sony equivalent controllers that work on the PC, I’ve got one for years.

The ability to sit next to a friend and play? Well, two USBs, two controllers. And if you play online for the most part, well… internet.

Seriously asking, what does a console give fighting games the computer does? The only connection is “Historical”, and nothing of actual substance.

  • http://geekorner.wordpress.com/ Geekorner

I’m not defensive, I’m saying your argument is a non-argument.

Do people play fighting games on consoles more than PC? Yeah. Should they? Not really.
You think they /should/? Then make an argument for it, show us why.

    As to your other questions.
Most serious tournaments for fighting games don’t have people bringing consoles from home, but the venue providers do so.
And as someone who participated in offline tournaments for games such as Warcraft 3 or Unreal Tournament 2003 (I’m old, sue me), then people DID lug around their computers, not laptops either. Hundreds of people.

The Hit Box joke was a joke, it being silly seems to me to be an upside. But it’s also true.

  • Haseyo

Except in fighting game tournaments. Many use Xbox because absolutely no lag and most tournament goers use Xbox arcade sticks.

I’m assuming this is a Japan thing, because in America most fighting games are played on 360 in tournaments.

  • Kelohmello

“Do people play fighting games on consoles more than PC? Yeah. Should they? Not really.”

For the people that play in tournament, it’s kind of a big deal. No one wants to bring a bunch of computers to a tournament to play a game, especially when hardware can differ so vastly between computers. Keep in mind, on a competitive level, even slight drop in framerate, or even slight delays in inputs from stick to computer, can cause a large issue during gameplay. I’m talking on a single frame basis here, 1/60th of a second.

Would also like to mention that a certain fighting game, Melty Blood’s competitive tournament scene is all but dead because of its lack of a console version. Most of the people who play it tend to mention that bit alot in regards to its competitive life.

So no, really, people shouldn’t play fighting games more on PC, or even close to as much as they do on console.

  • Setsuna ♥

As far as Tournament Standards goes ASW fighters play better and closer to their arcade counterparts on a PS3 opposed to Xbox. The lag issue as far as I know has always been commented on in regards to UMvC3 and SSFIV (I can’t comment any other fighter)

  • yo1234

Sick of what? Not getting many japanese games?
