Namco Bandai Is Making A New Bravoman Game

By Spencer . June 14, 2013 . 7:46am

bmansaAfter a one off arcade game and a TurboGrafx-16 port, Namco Bandai’s stretchy hero Bravoman went into their vault for almost two decades. ShiftyLook, Namco Bandai’s comic division, revived Bravoman with a quirky web comic and an animated series.

Since Bravoman is ShiftyLook’s second most popular series,Bravoman is getting a video game too. I got to try Bravoman: Binja Bash at E3 and the new Bravoman uses his stretchy limbs to punch Binjas while running and jumping on platforms. Players tap the screen to make Bravoman punch or kick. The trick to defeating Binjas is to hit them in certain spots like their head or body in a specific pattern like head –> body –> head.

Bravoman: Binja Bash also has Bravo Woman, Waya Hime, Alpha Hime, and Anti- Bravo as unlockable characters. Benjamin and a character from another obscure video game Namco game as a boss. The Bravoman game is slated for release this summer for iOS devices.

I really must keep up with these newfangled internet phenomenons.

It’d be nice if Bravoman’s return to gaming after 25 years would be something more… substantial.

Granted asking Namco to spend actual money on one of their overlooked game series is like asking the sun not to rise, but both the comic and the animated series have a clear love and passion behind them and it would be nice to see a new game with that sort of attention given to it.

I mean, imagine a full 3D Bravoman game where you can use his stretchy limbs to beat up tons of enemies and drag them around to create a bunch of fun combos sort of like Nero’s Devil Bringer in DMC4. Add in Paulsen and everyone else from the animated series reprising their roles, and you could end up with a truly memorable title!

    But again, Namco…

Who knows, Namdai might finally have some loose change from spending their Dragonball/Naruto profits on Tales’ currently-selective western release.

If Bravoman is the second most popular, I wonder who is the first? Wonder Momo? It’s the only webcomic in Shifty Look I’ve been following and I really enjoy it. Love Omar Dogan’s anime-styled artwork there too.

Ha ha, IOS game was perhaps what I should have expected… but hey, it doesn’t look THAT bad in my eyes. Hopefully it can be a step in the direction to build more hype? Maybe? Possibly?
