3D Ecco The Dolphin Has Super Dolphin Mode

By Spencer . June 18, 2013 . 10:46pm

3decco-01Ecco the Dolphin is coming to Nintendo 3DS on June 26. On top of a 3D facelift, Sega added a new Super Dolphin Mode. Turn this on and Ecco is totally invincible and doesn’t even need to worry about getting air. Sega added this in so players can soak in the story rather than worry about leaping out of water.

3D Ecco the Dolphin also allows players to switch between the Japanese game and overseas release. The Japanese version is more difficult and has other tweaks. This version also has a quicksave slot and an option to emulate a classic tube TV.

3D Ecco the Dolphin will cost 600 yen ($6) in Japan.

I remember playing this game on the Genesis as a kid. But you would never guess playing as a dolphin could be so scary. The music even made the game more frightening. This game I remember was a hard one. So hopefully this new feature makes the game a lot easier to finish.

It was atmospheric! Yeah, they really did a fantastic job, paid attention to every pixel to, yes, make a scary dolphin adventure game hahah

  • *sigh* Yet another Sega eShop game we won’t be getting in the US. Bastards. :(

    • niko

Actually Sega trademarked all the 3D games in the US so we should get the first batch soon so i would assume (eventually) we’ll get the second batch.

    • Zeether

They gave ratings to at least 3 of the 3D Classics games titles in Europe and Australia. I don’t know why we haven’t gotten them in the US yet but they SHOULD come out here soon enough. Sega needs to stop making such poor choices.

This is one of my favorite games of all time.

And, I think the super dolphin mode is needed, because this game’s difficulty is quite high… but that also makes it awesome.

Great story, really wish SEGA would ask Annunziata to do another one…

…………Sega………can you also makes my Asia 3DS into Super 3DS?T_T

  • Göran Isacson

Oh man, so we get to choose between BOTH a harder version, and an easier one? I like that. I like that alot, and an emulation filter that makes it look like an old-school TV? Nostalgia overload man. Nostalgia overload. I wonder if I could play this now, without being too terrified of the octopus to continue past it…

“The Japanese version is more difficult”

Yikes, I had a tough enough time with the US release back on the Genesis! Dunno if I’m going to be up for the JPN difficulty on this one :)

Assuming Sega releases this thing for 3DS in the US…

  • Corwen

Japanese version is more difficult!? I don’t want to imagine.

  • British_Otaku

I may get this on my J-3DS to line up with Sonic the Hedgehog and Space Harrier… Never touched Ecco but only heard of it being… weird.

  • Raltrios

II remember playing this at a friend’s place once, long ago…it made me scared of deep water, and jellyfish terrified me for ages. I was an impressionable child back then…

  • doubleO7

I have this on the Ultimate Genesis Collection for PS3. Never could figure out how to get out of that very first area lol.
