Shin Megami Tensei IV’s New DLC Features Divine And Chaotic Beasts

By Sato . June 20, 2013 . 10:50am

Previously, Atlus have released DLC missions to make it easier to level up for people who don’t have as much time to play. That was followed by another DLC mission that involved fighting powerful archangels. Next, Atlus will be releasing two more downloadable content missions that will have you fighting even tougher fiends.

The fifth DLC, titled “Ancient of Days”, will have players fighting against the demon known as the diving spirit, Ancient Day, designed by Kamen Rider and Sentai designer Tamotsu Shinohara. Defeating this demon, who is considered to be the caretaker of God, will allow you to fuse the demons to create it yourself. Without doing so, you won’t be able to create it even if you have the necessary monsters to make it.

Meanwhile, the sixth DLC quest is called “The Eternal Youth,” where you’ll be encountering the Chaos King Sanato, who is said to have come from a world of explosive flames and violence. It’ll be up to you to stop Sanato who’s been trampling the grounds of the Shinjuku, Shibuya and Ikebukuro districts of Tokyo. This demon was also designed by Tamotsu Shinohara, and defeating him will allow you to fuse monsters to create him, as well.

“Ancient of Days” will be available to download on Nintendo eShop starting on June 27th while “The Eternal Youth” will be out on July 4th.

Shin Megami Tensei IV is slated to be released on July 16th for Nintendo 3DS in North America.

looking forward to this game….even though they’re like really small posters i notice “ALL” of them at gamestop lol…….must be a sign O_O

    • Surgeon of Death

I see what you did there :)

  • kandori

These new demon designs just keep getting worse and worse. I hope to YHVH they don’t show up in any other SMT game.

    • Brandon001

      Takahisa?! It cant be!

  • Ramón Navas

Actually, I like Eternal Day’s design, but I hate Sanato’s one

  • Keima88

Any news about the Europe release date yet? The E3 is over but I havent heard anything about it…

    • http://steamcommunity.com/id/noumi_kud Kudryavka

I’m not sure why people downvoted you for asking about this… We like games too guys! :<

      • Virevolte

Honestly, I don’t expect it to come to us before at least six months after the US release… like for Ragnarok Odyssey. :/

        • http://steamcommunity.com/id/noumi_kud Kudryavka

For almost everything, you mean? :P /exaggerating slightly

I’m glad to see that more titles are getting release dates that are only a few days / weeks later than the US, it’s gotten better over the years, sure, but we’re still getting the short end of the stick fairly often with months of delay or no news on when the new release date is… and occasionally get completely ignored. I mean, where’s my Dragon’s Crown release date… anyone? Pretty please?

I think the only exception I have found for all those games (mostly RPGs) that I looked forward to in the last few months was Bravely Default – which we’re getting earlier by an unknown amount of time since they haven’t specified exact dates.

          • Virevolte

I live in France, but the Vita isn’t zoned, so you can probably also import. I don’t know if it works differently in your country, but I often find US games on the french version of Amazon, there’s always two or three vendors having imported it for us.

For Shin Megami Tensei IV… that’s another story. =(

  • MrTyrant

Ancient day looks cool but Sanato’s design is horrible. I would pay Atlus a lot if they give me a new demon Boss designed by Kazuma Kaneko ;D

    • Ramón Navas

      Maybe that’s their plan…

  • JoeSislack

Ancient Day does look neat and fits in rather well.

However Sanato does indeed look like a Kamen Rider reject villain.

  • Brandon001

    You know what sucks?

Absolutely nothing, i need July 16th to GET HERE.

  • JMaster3000

”Shin Megami Tensei IV is slated to be released on July 16th for Nintendo 3DS in North America.” and in 2013 in Europe.

    • Keima88

According to Nintendo life its supposed to be summer 2013 for Europe. Dont know if its true.

      • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

I heard Q3, which means between October and end of December 2013

        • http://steamcommunity.com/id/noumi_kud Kudryavka

Hm, I haven’t heard anything but I’ll be wary of these dates, considering they recently had to change their release date for EO4 in Europe.

          • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

It really depends on the publisher. NIS is publishing EO4 in Europe, while Nintendo is publishing SMTIV. Sigh.

Well, doesn’t bother me as I’m in the Uk with an NA 3DS, but I feel for you guys.

          • http://steamcommunity.com/id/noumi_kud Kudryavka

It sucks, but I’m sticking with the UK 3DS ’cause I want to support what little hope we have in our industry… :/

          • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

            Keep fighting the good fight.

  • Shane Guidaboni

Kaneko, where are you? You are missed.

  • mirumu

I’m having a really hard with the art direction of SMT IV in general. Not just this DLC, but even the character designs. I had the same issue with the Devil Survivor, although in that case it may just be my distaste for Suzuhito Yasudo’s style. SMT IV however just seems all over the place artistically. I know they want to draw in a more mainstream audience, but I can’t help but wonder if that’s just happening for unrelated reasons and nothing to do with the art at all.

Kaneko’s clearly a busy guy at Atlus these days, so I can understand why others are getting involved. I just can’t help but feel a little disappointed.

  • Ethan_Twain

I for one quite like the new designs we’ve been shown from SMT IV. It’s past time that the franchise started taking advantage of modern hardware with higher resolution creature drawings. Many of the old designs evidence that they were drawn for archaic hardware by their relatively simple shapes and colors. These new guys? They wouldn’t have even been possible in some of the older games without a special boss cut away sprite.

    • mirumu

I’m with you on taking advantage of modern hardware. On a technical level the old designs were well past their prime.

  • ragingmerifes

    Awesome design.
    Just 25 days to go.

  • chroma816

    Eh…they’re over designed.

  • Hinataharem

Ancient Day looks straight out of FF13. I agree with others, Kaneko should come back.

  • Ni

I’m really hating that new art style of SMT IV

  • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

    They’re really milkin’ it.

  • DyLaN

Not sure why every1 is so hung up abt Kaneko design…. They sure looks WTF enough for me.

    Wht are those Beastman things?

  • Aesma

Not sure why people hate the new art… I can understand people disliking some of them which looks more like Kamen Rider monsters but… the Angels ones (Or Law in general seeing ‘Ancient Day’) is more true to their Bible version than the previous art.

After all, the Angels in bible is anything BUT humanoid. Example: Seraph who has the face of lion, ox and eagle (I think there is one more face, was it human?)… Actually, while a bit… twisted, Raphael’s new design looks more suitable than his old humanoid appearance. Ancient Day looks like a statue of many Angels… I see Trumpeters, modern interpretation of Cherub (Or maybe cupid), Ophanim (or as some know them as Thrones), definitely gives an otherworldly feels that Angels should have.

…but I guess to most people the new designs looks strange. Personally, I’m just happy that Asmodeus finally appears, hope that his namesake, Aesma-Daeva will appear in future games, Armaiti already appeared, Angra-Mainyu has been referenced in Soul Hacker, why haven’t the Demon of Wrath Aesma appear?

EDIT: …about Aesma, I have to clarify, I mean as his own Demon instead of palette swap of Asmodeus, though it does make sense…
