Meet The Main Characters Of Final Fantasy XV

By Ishaan . June 24, 2013 . 1:30pm

Square Enix have released key art for Final Fantasy XV, along with character profiles for the game’s main cast of characters, as well as a brief story summary.

• Noctis Lucis Caelum: A childhood affliction endowed Noctis, heir apparent to the throne of Lucis, with the mystical power to see a heavenly light, through which he could sense others’ deaths. Noctis rejects rigid royal conventions and acts as somewhat of a renegade, much to the dismay of those who tend to him. Yet while “Noct” may act brash at times, he does so in defense of those loyal to him.

Gladiolus Amicitia: As lord of the noble House Amicitia, Gladiolus continues a line sworn to protect the crown. “Gladio” shares a friendship with Noctis that transcends birth and title, and his loyalty to his liege is born not of duty, but of brotherhood.

Ignis Scientia: Ever the unwavering voice of reason, Ignis was weaned on shrewd logic and a classical education from boyhood so that he might one day counsel the would-be king, Noctis. He applies the deep mutual understanding and trust they have built over time to help smooth over Noctis’s brusqueness with others.

Prompto Argentum: The puckish playboy Prompto befriended Noctis in his school days. He wears a chip on his shoulder as an outsider to the royal circle, but remains eager to do all he can for the cause.

Cor Leonis: A living legend of Lucian lore, Lord Commander Cor Leonis’s devotion to the art of war is surpassed only by that to his king. Little love is lost between the ill-starred stalwart and Noctis’s retinue, yet honor binds him to keep watch over the group all the same.

The only crystal left to the world lies in the Kingdom of Lucis. Upon striking a peace with the garrison state of Niflheim, Lucis rejoices in having at last brought the cold war to a close. Their celebrations, however, are premature. Under the guise of amity, Niflheim dispels the anti-armament runewall and launches a full-scale invasion of the kingdom. The peaceful lives Crown Prince Noctis and his entourage once knew are consumed by the flames of war as they struggle to mount a resistance.

Final Fantasy XV is in development for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

    • John Diamond

nothing wrong with a good ol’ sausage fest.

    • Still better than X-2.

      • icantstandthisindecision

You really /can’t/ say “still better than X-2” when X-2 it’s critically acclaimed in Japan and consistently maintains favorable reviews on sites like Metacritic(85/100, 7.5/10) and GameRankings(86.25%/100%). It just doesn’t make sense.

        • Oh sorry, Im not in Japan so I don’t give a crap.

Personally, the premise for XV seems more interesting than X-2 to me, the expectations for XV seems more high than X-2 too.

Also, I don’t rank a game according to what gaming sites say about it, they can’t really score too low so their friendship with important gaming corps won’t get affected, 8.5 seems average given that case.

          • icantstandthisindecision

You seem to mistake the fact that I didn’t say “only in Japan.” GameRankings and MetaCritic both aren’t sites that something that is so poor would get good ratings on. The main, and perhaps only, reason that the game sold worse in Western markets is the fact that at that point – and perhaps still at this point – gamers saw a chiefly female cast on a cover and were like, “Ewww, no.”

          • Lemme repost my edit:
Why would I have to care what “gaming journalists” have to say about the game? They don’t voice what every gamer thinks about games. Plus, they can’t really score too low so their friendship with important
gaming companies won’t get affected, 8.5 seems average/low given that case. (DmC for example given it’s score it SHOULD be a good DMC game, gameplay wise it kinda is but the reception was/still is eh…)

Sides from the absurd fanservice and change of aesthetics the musical score sucked major balls too.

          • icantstandthisindecision

First off, THEY AREN’T GAMING JOURNALISTS. MetaCritic and GameRankings are in the same vein as Rotten Tomatoes– it’s scores BY THE FANS, FOR THE FANS. It’s fans of the series– people that have played the game– that rate it. Speaking of Rotten Tomatoes, it got an 81% there, too.

Fanservice? What do you mean ‘fanservice?’ There wasn’t any fanservice. It was a game about a group of women that- shock of shocks- acted and looked like women! And are you crazy? The score is among the best things about the game.

          • Say, since you’re bringing scores into the table, how well it fared in comparison to the other FF titles by the way? I still believe gaming sites don’t give me a proper resolution pretty much for the same reason as my example.

If you can’t even recognize the fan service on the game then I’d say you’re either blind or in denial. The score was TV sports commercial level, what an odd taste you’ve got there.

    • Linhua

… I came here to say just that… XD

  • LightGenx

Now we need some art of the females… All two of them

    • yorudox

      These guys are hot.

If they tried to make the girls hot, then people would still complain about lack of clothes. And even if they where all well clothed, people would find something more to complain about.

My point, If they creators want a story jam packed with guys, let it be… I don’t see why this has to be a gender problem.

      • Nanaki

I agree, and as unfortunate as it may sound, people will always find something initially to complain about.

      • LightGenx

No gender problem here the main cast could be a group of moogles for all I care, but I could see how some people would have issues with a full male cast.

        • Eilanzer

i certainly would buy an FF with a full cast of moogles *o*

          • So would I. Square, if you even bother reading these message boards. There’s a money maker, right there XD

          • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

I would definitely buy a FF title where the party is nothing but Moogles. FF-Type 0 had those Class assistant M.O.O.G.L.E.s that all looked like they had different job classes. It could definitely work.

        • Wiccan1109

Some people definitely would have problems with it, but lets face it. Men are a dying breed in JRPGs now. It’s becoming common to have less men than girls in the party, and the men that are there can be very androgynous. Its becoming common to only have playable girls and male npcs. I’m pretty sure there are even some out there without even that much.

The sad thing is its not even about female empowerment, its usually just a sex appeal thing. Lightning Returns covers their female focus and sense of empowerment imo, she doesn’t even need a party. This covers the other side of the spectrum.

Whilst the west is very male focused, JRPGs tend to portray men in a different light. This move of theirs was quite gutsy given their demographic, but a very interesting move. I had all but given up on FF games, but this one im gonna buy JUST because it seems different.

          • Shady Shariest

            *Joker Clapping*
            You win my up vote!

          • Ric Vazquez

            Well said

      • Pockystix

I personally am upset that there aren’t many games with ambiguous gendered characters!

when are we gonna get a game where we can play as Quina!

      • ChiffonCake

I understand what you’re saying. But personally, I always enjoy playing as women more than I do playing as men.

Of course, I’m cool with these guys too. They don’t look too ridiculous (as was expected with Square’s games until a while back), have a nice variety of personalities, and are even good-looking! Bbbbbbut I like women aaaaaargh.

      • Sam

Seeing as how FFXIII was primarily a female cast and this being originally versus XIII, then I can understand a primarily male casting in this game.

        • Chiupon

Did you even play 13? The gender ratio was balanced. Lightning-Fang-Vanille to Snow-Hope-Sazh. Even counting the guest characters Lebreau and Gadot, it’s still equal.

But no, Nomura’s homosexual space odyssey doesn’t really have room for females.

          • Leitiso

I’ve seen 2 female characters from trailers and gameplay vids.

          • Chiupon

            but are they ~*~*~*playable*~*~*~?!?!?!

            that’s important

and if they exist for more reasons in the plot other than to just die to motivate the male characters

  • Kotorin

I can just see the yaoi fanart :/

    • XYZ_JolteonZ980

Doujins and fanfics too, as long as it involves prompto and noctis.

      • M’iau M’iaut

I am quite sure you already have the shippings laid out.

      • KnifeAndFork

  • Loving the red shoe soles between all that black~ ww

  • ChiffonCake

Sounds pretty interesting, and Noctis is looking like he’ll be a cool protagonist, buuuut yeah I really wanted to know something about the women… meh.

I’m still really looking forward to this game, anyway. The summary reminds me a lot of FFXII, and I liked that game’s plot, so yay!

  • Xillia

    oh they’re wearing louboutins ….

    • KnifeAndFork

Roen might get sued for that who knows. Louboutin did take Yves Saint Lauren to court and won.

    • Chiupon

      how fashionable!

  • Manny Being Manny

    More like Fujoshi Fantasy XV

    • XYZ_JolteonZ980

Its been worth the wait, cant wait for the merchandise.

      • KnifeAndFork

I’ll skip the garbage fujoshi slash fan fiction thanks

    • Chiupon

many a fanfic will be written

i guess they figured they lost a lot of their core audience and now they want to appeal to just like

      every woman
women are half the population, so if you can get all the female gamers and the gay guys to buy it, that’s a lot of guaranteed sales.

      • oorum

Of course, we women should mention we like playing as female avatars as much as the mass amount of male avatars in all games, generall. I vaguely recall this being an issue in a SMT thread. And we’re not all into yaoi.
^That being said, the cast looks good, can’t deny.

  • ivanchu77

    Needs more females

    • M’iau M’iaut

There aren’t enough here already :P.

      • MrTyrant

….b….but they could have added women that looked like men instead.

        • M’iau M’iaut

Um Dagger or Aeris would add testosterone.

          • alixraen

How rude. There’s no need to keep splaying your opinion, we get it, you don’t like the cast.

          • M’iau M’iaut

It is just samey pics and descriptions should not alone define the characters. Although that seems to be where Square wishes to go.

          • Chiupon

M’iau M’iaut, we get into it sometimes in these comments~*~*~
But god I love you right now

everything you are saying i agree with 100 percent

    • DustyBlue

Females for the sake of females is pointless. This happens to be a story involving mostly men. Get over it.

  • Solomon_Kano

Ignis is swagged the fuck out. True story.

    • Sango

Lol, they all look pretty beastly.

  • SirRichard

Good to see that we’re still the Backstreet Boys, here’s hoping they all gel together well enough.

    • Solomon_Kano

With all that anime hair, they’ll probably run out of gel before we can find out.

      Bad joke is bad.

    • anarchy_panty

Pfft, these dude’s wish they were even half as fly as the Backstreet Boys.

    • kylehyde

      What about boyzone or westlife?

  • So much black

    So much hair

  • Final Fantasy Yakuza XIII.
    The Expendables: Final Fantasy XV.

    • M’iau M’iaut

You don’t need no damn Expendables. Fricking Billy Blanks or Michael Dudikoff could kick all of these guys asses.

      • John Diamond

elton john can beat goku in a fight in real life

  • Freud_Hater

Ah, the game that might renew my interest in Square Enix games. Looks good so far, if somewhat lacking girls… There’s like a single known female character, right?

    • Solomon_Kano

Two. There’s Stella and then there’s the unnamed black-haired, green-eyed chick.

      • Freud_Hater

Haven’t heard about the Not-Stella one! Sounds lovely, though :3

        • Solomon_Kano
          • How many chicks are there on the game? They can’t break the 3 girls on the party tradition! One has to be related to the main character (Stella checked), a sexy/serious/smart/matured one and a cheesy/upbeat/loli bait one!

          • Solomon_Kano

Hm. Well, we’ve got two chicks so far and no clue as to if they’ll join the party or not. Stella’s pretty much guaranteed to switch sides at some point, but the chick above was also on the bad guy side in the big image with all the character portraits.

So… of the two known females (unless you wanna count that Dragoon stripper from the 2011 trailer), one looks like she’ll join the party. Surely, there’ll be more than three chicks in the game though!

          • We can only Estheim!

          • Solomon_Kano

            Yea, man! Nora!

Or did ya mean that other kid?

          • *Insert “You don’t know yet?” video here*!

          • Eilanzer

Well the blonde guy is like a girl already…
            …Oh god…

          • komiko12

They already broke the 3 games per gen. I was also hoping that they won’t break the 3 girls per game thing.

          • KnifeAndFork

            She’s shy….

          • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

She is the Assassin’s Creed cosplayer I think

          • Solomon_Kano

            Ezio’s sister: Ezia.

          • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

I also remember that the Versus trailers had the female version of Kain Highwind: …Em, Katherine?

          • Eilanzer

            Maybe she´s a dude too…Who knows…A trap maybe O_o

  • M’iau M’iaut

And the monsters and bosses of FFXV have not one da*n thing to fear.

  • Bunzi

Two of ’em look womanly enough that I don’t see the sausage fest complaints.

    • MrTyrant

Looking womanly isn’t a good thing and less to say that the game don’t need chicks in the team.

      • Ninastars

Nothing wrong with feminine guys. At least there’s a couple of more gruff guys on the team for the people not into that.

        • KnifeAndFork

Its not feminine. Its Metro look that’s caught Japan by storm the past 10 years. Most Japanese young males are skinny with stylized clothes and hair. If people want to play ignorant and assume its a “gay thing” they can go on ahead but it ain’t true..Japan’s whole definition of gay stereotype is the muscular butch guy that looks like a bodybuilder.

          • Ninastars

            True. It’s just cultural differences.

If you look at western AAA titles most characters look a lot like celebrities we see in movies and on TV. Similarly Japanese game characters tend to look a lot like those male celebrities there who tend to go for this metro look.

    • KnifeAndFork

Dude that’s like how 80% of Japanese male youth look and dress nowadays. You’re basically saying most of Japan is gay guys?

      • Bunzi

Womanly and gay are similes, now? Well, now I’m informed.

They’re extremely effeminate and I know that’s the standard in fiction but come on. 80% is an exaggeration. Plenty of Japanese guys dress and have facial structures that are far less overtly feminine than this.

  • XYZ_JolteonZ980

probably should have included their VA’s/

Anyway Prompto and Noctis are easily my favorites there, from the nocto moments in the trailer and his voice, Prompto just funny. Noctics is cool too. Overall love everyone in the entire cast.

  • i wish you guys pointed out which character was which. ;n; lol

is the main party all male this time???
i was hoping that pole dancing dragoon lady would join at some point.

    • Nanaki

They never confirmed who would actually be in the party.
It’s left for speculation, but nothing is set in stone.

    • Solomon_Kano

      Far left: Prompto

      Near left: Gladiolus

      Center: Noct

      Near right: Ignis

      Far right: Cor

    • thumbs down? okay. lol.

    • -_-

  • RichyGaming

I’m glad i’m not the only one who think these people have too much black on.

  • Nanaki

Square-Enix catered to fans by implementing an all-female cast for X-2 as opposed to a prologue story depicting Braska’s pilgrimage. Look how people ultimately reacted to that one.
Honestly, people focus on gender way too much. I’m glad we finally have some information as to where each characters stands in this war story.

    • M’iau M’iaut

It is just these are the same set of guys we have seen since FF7. Yes you are playing to the established audience, but at at the same time keeping away those who left the fandom.

      • Nanaki

I agree with you, and I have no doubt in saying that the character’s are largely influenced by Tetsuya Nomura, a man who has largely kept things consistent since FF7 as far as character design.

      • Bunzi

What? Can’t say I agree. There’s no rough and tumble, rugged looking Barret or Cid. No youthful, girlish Yuffie, nor the miraculously compelling, animal mascot stereotype trumping Red XIII. (We had Cait Sith to go back and maintain the stereotypes, but take the good with the bad.)

I’d take VII’s cast over this sea of same-y pretty boys any day.

        • Solomon_Kano

Cor don’t look rough and tumble? Say whaaaat?

        • icantstandthisindecision

I’m sorry, but I’ll take a cast of potentially well-rounded characters over that overexposed dreck we got in FF VII. The only good characters in VII were either side characters, or died.

          • Bunzi

Please. Barret, Red XIII, Cid, Tifa, and yes, even Aerith and Cloud were all fantastic characters.

…. In their initial appearance. Than they handed creative rights over to the guy that had only drawn them before and we all know how that turned out.

So I’ll amend my statement – I’ll take the non-Compilation version of VII’s cast over a bunch of same-y pretty boys any day.

  • Crimson_Cloud

The boots… they are lightning resistant!

  • Altin

    I can’t wait to see Biggus D*ckus :D

  • Ferchenko

    Meet my weiner, SQUARE-ENIX.

  • French

    Christian Louboutins on deck

  • Thin Lizzy’s, “Boys are back in town” just played in my mind. It’ll be interesting to see how this title will end up playing out.

  • French

100% sure Noctis is rocking some Mastermind Japan too…

  • Ferchenko

  • Demeanor

So much Latin! So much manhood! XD I think I’m going to go purify myself with some Nisa/CH title now… XD

    • Eilanzer

      Manhood o.o

  • XenonVincentPlus

These guys got style! They’re probably the most stylish looking FF guys in the series. They really do remind me of a gang or mafia. I can’t wait to see how the women look!

    • Steven Higgins

Well, that’s because the costume design was done by an actual real-world fashion designer.
I believe they said that back when this was Versus.

  • Coeurl

Cor is looking a bit out of place here. Seems like he’d be more at home on w-rpg cover.

It’s probably just the lack of hair though, not fab at all

  • Hyli

Are people griping about an all male cast???? I am very excited about it personally, (of course I am female, lol) but in all honesty, in a world where scantily clad heroines and all girl fighting games reign supreme, let us just have this one please!!! This isn’t to say that I don’t like cast equality as well.

    • Solomon_Kano

I don’t have a problem with the dudes myself, but uh… “all-girl fighting games reign supreme”? Skullgirls, Arcana Heart, and…?

Games chock-full of females aren’t that common, now. Apart from the above two, all that comes to mind from recent history is Compile Heart games.

      • Hyli

Okay, maybe I was exaggerating a little. I think I was mostly thinking of all those RPGs I’ve played where there’s only 1 or 2 male characters, and all the rest are girls (that may or may not have stupidly large breasts) that just kinda harem around him/them. My intent was to say, I like the reversal, and I find it a little refreshing to have so many attractive guys being the focus.

        • Solomon_Kano

Ah. Gotcha. Fair enough. Nice to change things up every now and then. Stella certainly won’t be lacking options with this cast…

          • Hyli

        • Pockystix

it would be nice if majorly female casts; or male casts, weren’t something for the eyes only.

I guess it would be nice if a game where there’s a big ratio between genders didn’t revolve around romance, or at the least, didn’t revolve around the same old boring stories. And I think fanservice as a selling point isn’t something that will go away any time soon. . . sadly.

          • Hyli

Yes! Exactly! Maybe the romance aspect is what’s getting to me.

            Fanservice is just…/sigh
            it’s a thing.

        • Wtv

Harem are actually…well…bad. To me anyway. That’s the problem. There aren’t a lot of majority female game without being harem.

But anyway…the problem is that Final Fantasy never had one all-boy cast. So a lot of fans will hate it. I hate it in the beggining. I just don’t care anymore now.

They could make a all-girls cast in the XVI, since it never happened either…

          No, spin-off like FFX-2 doesn’t count.

          • KnifeAndFork

Well it didn’t matter here initially either because remember this was a spin off…..Versus XIII.

Now that S-E rebranded it as FF XV, people will take more notice and have issue with it not having a balanced cast (even Type Zero was more balanced and that was a PSP spin off) but whatever I think I speak for most when I say we just want the damn game already.

        • biskmater

were you perhaps importing…? Because I can’t remember very many such games here in the states, of course, I own queen’s gate spiral chaos (for all the fanservice, the gameplay is surprisingly good) and maybe that one game for the psp, that turned out be a terrible action rpg…

      • … DoA? .w.

        • Solomon_Kano

          Ryu’s a girl!? :O

          • Nooo but I mean it’s a game focused on scantily females fighting title too no?

Skewgurls is not all about females anymore too.

          • Solomon_Kano

Skullgirls has two dudes. DOA has a bunch. While people like to make a fuss about DOA’s chicks, there’s certainly a nice helping of men in the series.

          • Maybe it’s because I started on the wrong DoA game (deadoraliveparadisehahapointlessboobjiggling!) but when I think DoA I think “HAWT CHICKS FIGHTING!” most of the time lol .w.

          • Solomon_Kano

Haha. Yea, Paradise was the wrong place to start (or right, if that’s your thing). First one I played was 3, so I never really understood all the “OMG BEWBS” stuff around DOA til I finally saw Xtreme Beach Volleyball.

          • I think it is the wrong place to start, sides that it only has the female cast it makes me believe the series is only about fanservice and for a moment I thought Rio was a DoA character and I think Rio was my only fav part of the game lol.

As a curious fact I still can’t believe Rio is voiced by Ali Hillis, I mean what the hell dude? Such pretty girl voice is the same voice actor for Lightning? xD

          • Solomon_Kano

Damn, she really channeled all of her toughness for Light’s voice lol. You’d never guess it was the same person.

Thank goodness I avoided Paradise, then. Mindless fanservice ain’t my cup o’ tea.

          • Hyli

This is true. And to be honest, the girls in Skullgirls aren’t really scantily clad. There are some panty shots here and there, but it isn’t blatant. And Skullgirls has 2 dudes!

          • Hyli

Oh that last part was for Solomon_Kano, my bad

          • It’s kull :3

            But yeh, agreed with ya.

      • Steven Higgins

        Senran Kagura

        • Solomon_Kano

          Not a fighting game.

          • Steven Higgins

I should have been more specific. Senran Kagua BURST. That is definitely a fighter. At least that’s what it looked like in the gameplay video from a while ago.

      • Barrylocke89

There are those 3 official Touhou fighting games. It’s true though, all girl casts aren’t exactly common.

But all guy casts might be LESS common in the Eastern side of things these days, so perhaps the point still stands…

    • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

I agree, plus the fact all these guys look like actual guys is also a nice step in the right direction~.

    • KnifeAndFork

You have a whole genre to yourself; it’s called Otome

      • piichan

which hardly sees any english release…

      • stomp

And the male equivalent is eroge…or even just “standard dating sims.”

    • Leitiso

cast is not all male. unless the female characters are not playable, and are merely support/story members.

  • Pockystix

now before anyone talks about the all-male cast, we don’t know if one of them is pulling a Faris on us

    • Chiupon

      please re-examine those skin textures

there’s not a single way that one of them is female unless they’re wearing a mask

  • Danwen Huang

I expect to see a highly polished band performance cutscene as an Easter egg.

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

Final Fantasy XV: Boy Band Edition!

With their smash hits, like “I’ll Wait Forever For Your Love” and “One Console Just Ain’t Enough!”

    Coming Soon…?

    • I ain’t hatin for the boys crowd on this game but man, those smashing hits cracked me up!

      • Ric Vazquez

    • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

I can’t wait for their album “Bigger than Lightning.”

      • Lol nice

      • Kalis Konig

Damn it! now I can’t unsee it! lol

      • Demeanor

I can’t wait for their album “I wanna ride Lightning!” XDXDXD

      • Ric Vazquez

    • Tom_Phoenix

I bet they’re called the “Emo Boys”.

    • Leitiso

You nailed it on this one. They look like SHINWA or something to that degree. Asian boy bands are pretty intense actually. I guess this is the opposite of FFX-2? but from what I know there are a few female characters.

      • ChromeH34rts

I wouldn’t say SHINWA, perhaps more of Big Bang seeing as they are the fashionistas. ;), I think there are 2 females (Stella is one and she is damn pretty)

        • Leitiso

glad someone is educated on these matters. I got SHINWA from the hair I think? at least they aren’t GACKT fashionable. omg, either way I’ll play the game though haha.

    • Ric Vazquez

      LOL! You nailed it

  • This game was meant for my girlfriend… just hot dudes. Haha, I sense either BLs or yaoi coming.

    • KnifeAndFork

whys it have to be like that yo

  • SupaPhly

    Backstreets back, alright!

    • Aoshi00

A bit embarrassed to admit, I was briefly into Backstreet because of my younger sis lol.. and I did like some Jpn boy bands like Arashi.. as cheesy as some might think, I couldn’t help but enjoy their songs..

5 boys cast is not that uncommon, it’s been in anime for a long time, like Saint Seiya and Samurai Troopers (later Gundam Wing). I used to love that setup so me and my friends could pretend to be diff. chars.. I’m sure there’d be some good female chars, playable or not (alrdy had Lara in Tomb Raider and Nilin in Remember Me recently)..

All 5 chars here look interesting, and make a cool fashion statement, the black/red boots are actually more natural than the FF13 Prada crossover..

Wonder if this would come out 1yr after the PS4/XB1 launch? Maybe there would be a black/red PS4 limited edition console.. I haven’t thoroughly enjoyed a FF for a while since X, and then 13-2 got me back. Pls S-E, blow me away like the days of Chrono Trigger, make the experience immersive and memorable.. If they could just get Uematsu to be one of the composers, I would be very grateful..

      • Anime10121

Uematsu’s great, but honestly imo Shimomura is just as good (maybe even better) now. Have you heard some of the godly things this woman has composed?

Tried to pick songs from different games as an adverse to people only using her Kingdom Hearts stuff. This woman makes gold for music :)

        • Aoshi00

I wouldn’t say one is better, their styles are totally different, I prefer Uematsu’s more whimsical and jazzy style (like Sakura Note or Anata wo Yurusanai).

Shimomura’s definitely good too, I’m just not a big KH fan which she’s the most known for.. Also Uematsu had done the music for the main FFs up to X. 12 by Sakimoto Hitoshi & 13 by Hamauzu Masashi (&13-2 by various artists) were great too and are among my favorite composers. It’s just that Uematsu’s only been doing music for Level 5 games late.. after Lost Odyssey & the Last Story, and only did the music for the MMO FFs, I wish they would get him to collaborate composing for a single player FF again like the main theme and such.. I never missed collecting his soundtracks. His stuffs always strike a chord deep in my heart..

          • Anime10121

Oh I get what you’re saying, I’d like to have Uematsu back for a regular FF too, as his work on XIV and LO (didnt care much for TLS) is amazing! But I think Shimomura and Nomura have been a team for far too long, and it’d almost feel weird for Uematsu to be back composing on this game specifically. Though I’d have to disagree on Sakimoto and Hamauzu, as there are only few tracks from each game those two compose that I generally like, whereas I love generally all of Yoko and Nobuo’s tunes.

HOWEVER, an Ito led XVI would be a different story entirely! Considering Sakagoochi himself believes that Ito is the one who could “save” Final Fantasy, it’d be only fitting for Uematsu to collaborate with Ito and compose for a hypothetical Ito led XVI! That would be the perfect game for him to come back to the mainline series :D

  • Prinnydoom

Its promising that they are releasing info on characters (or updating characters from before E3) I will hold out for a release date. Looking forward to this immensely.

  • Noor Mahmoud

Are people seriously complaining about the lack of females? Haven’t the main characters of Final Fantasy games been female for the last few years? Lightning… Serah…. Vanille… Fang…

    • ChiffonCake

It might be important to note that all of those characters are from FFXIII.

    • Wtv

FFXIII, FFVI. All the others FF have male main characters.

But the thing is…FFXIII had male characters too.

      • $5847659

What about Yuna? I know that she wasn’t the playable character in FFX but she was the main focus of the game and had just as big a role as Tidus (if not more so).

    • Spider-Man

      You forgot Hope.

      • Lynx

Okay, That was good. I laughed.

    • Misty Dawson

Yeah.. no. The MAIN protagonist from the majority of FF games have been male. Terra and Lightning are the only two in a main series title that have been female.

    • Chiupon

Vanille and Fang weren’t mains. Lightning was — And Serah was not the sole protagonist of XIII-2. Noel was a deuteragonist, meaning just as important. Two, like Mint and Rue from Threads of Fate.

It can also be said that Lightning wasn’t even the central character in 13, just the image character, since the storyline gave equal focus to all of the characters.

      • Wtv

It’s funny, actually, that Lightning Returns will be the first game where Lightning really will be the main character.

That being said, Rue is the true protagonist of Threads of Fate, since the true ending shows that his route is the only canon. That’s sad, since Mind is a better character…

I’ll just see Mint’s route as canon, since this will never have a sequel anyway. There is even a fan sequel only with Mint and her sister.

        • Chiupon

          Mint was my fave Q.Q
I’ll definitely see hers as canon too, hahaha

To this day I still refuse to play as Rue. Always had a friend do his story. He’s just so… Boring. Like even in his own story Mint outshines him.

          • Wtv

Yeah, I played with Mint before and was painful to play with Rue after.

Even his gameplay style is meh.

How could a generic mc compete with a princess that wants to rule the world, anyway?

          • Chiupon

admittedly mint was a childhood idol so i developed a lot of my personality based around emulating her

i finally realized kicking people in the face wasn’t acceptable behavior around the 8th grade

i also faked an irrational fear of pumpkins which lead to a lot of secret pumpkin pie consumption i still hide from friends since they always want to bring up my “phobia”

  • Freya2012

    An all-male casts… hmmm… interesting…

  • yellowmage

  • Brion Valkerion

Hope the characters are not stereotyped to sound exactly what they look like. That would be a nice change of pace from a Japanese game. IE, dont wanna see the muscle guy with a typical gruff voice going RAAAHHHH uuugggggaaaa, every 3 seconds… who am I kidding, we know thats exactly whats going to happen ….

  • Elemiel

Oh gods, I can just imagine them walking all cool and in slow-motion and then simultaneously tripping. Or one of them falling into a trash can like that chick from Mean Girls.

    • chroma816

It’d be Noctis; Nomura said he acts brooding, but he’s really just shy and kinda dorky. He’d totally trip.

  • Idolwrecker

With each passing FF the characters are starting to all look alike more and more…

  • Coeurl

Also just wanted to point out that Noctis means ‘of the night’

It isn’t too surprising that they’re all wearing black/dark colors

  • Damarius Wingfield

    Dat march!

  • DCBlackbird

It’s like looking at the cast of “Friends”

  • Just Tim

    Less zippers? Check.
    Pretty boys? An increase. xD

    • yorudox

Am I the only one who loved zippers?

      • Chiupon

        Nomura didn’t design those clothes

explaining the fact that they’re good

  • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

What’s with the all black clothes? Why only black if they are civilian clothes?

  • Go2hell66

Final Fantasy, the only game where you can save the world with a team of super models

Also everyone in this game have really awesome names. Cant wait to see how many parents name their kid Gladiolus after this comes out

    • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

I sometimes wonder if Cecil was paid by a lipstick company.

  • dragoon_slayer12

I really can’t wait for this game. I’ve always believed it will be the best FF ever, I hope Nomura can deliver.

  • stomp

    I’m not complaining.

  • Richard N

I’m less annoyed that they’re all dudes and more annoyed by the fact that going by their little bios, they all sound like the atypical shonen group of douchebags. Outfits aren’t really that interesting either. I get it, black is cool. Lets get some variety.

  • Misty Dawson

I am sad that there seems to be a lack of female characters in this one. I love having some female characters to relate to and play as while I am enjoying the game. Also.. I don’t really find any of these guys attractive :/ but I’ve never been one to like the boy bandish look.. last FF male I think I found attractive was Steiner or Balthier.

    … we need another Rusty!

  • Eilanzer

Final Fantasy XV: The Sausage Fest

  • Noctis and crew are representing hard lol

  • revenent hell

This looks like a shot for a boy band……….
Well, I still look forward to the game. This has had me interested for way to long to be nit picky just yet

    • Wolfs_Rain

“This looks like a shot for a boy band.”

That’s not until Final Fantasy XV-2.

  • HerosLight

“with the mystical power to see a heavenly light, through which he could sense others’ deaths”

    Xenoblade Chronicles much? :P

    • biskmater

that’s a tad more specific, xenoblade was more general future (though it usually ended in death) so more like shinigami eyes, I should think.

  • IMB

Ignis ‘s left arm looks kinda suspicious

  • Anime10121

Screw the men and the women argument that seems to be going on, WHERE ARE MY DAMN MOOGLES :P

(This game is confirmed to have moogles)

  • Kalis Konig

Yakuza 4s all male cast was kick ass. I don’t see why people think having an all male main cast in a lengthy game is all that hard.

  • Kalis Konig

Oh lawd just realized I have to make sure safe search is on whenever I am using a fan art search engine when it comes to this game lol.

    • Just thinking of how horrible finding one of those *yet to be created FanArts* is HORRIBLE enough

  • Cor Leonis. Am I the only one who is reminded to Yanagi Nagi’s website title?

    • DyLaN

  • darryl scott

Can’t wait to play this awesome game on PS5… or maybe PS6… OR NEVER!

  • piichan

I bet we’ll be seeing a lot of male cosplayers as these guys wherever the next anime/game con might be. I hope the females in this game have the same kind of shoes since I don’t mind having one myself :D

  • Chiupon

I’d like to mention that it’s almost 100 percent likely that Noctis is the only playable character~*~*~* The gameplay mechanics look like they only allow for Noctis to do the weird platformy things — Noctis or Stella, since they’ve got the same abilities.

    • Anime10121

Nomura already confirmed in one of his thousand interviews since E3 that playing as other characters is still possible…

      • Chiupon

        link pls!

        • Anime10121

Surprisingly, I thought it was gonna take a lot longer to find, but here ya go :P

          Paragraph 8, and I quote

To be considered FF, the battle must revolve around party members and
numbers. This means that numbers display both damage and HP, the player
can switch between each of the three party members freely, a lot of
chain actions and even characters outside of the active party will have
          some sort of role.

          • Chiupon

            t h a n k god

like when i saw the gameplay mechanics i started freaking because it really didn’t look like anyone else was playable :X
            thank you for the link!

          • Anime10121

A lot of the stuff you’re probably thinking about are more than likely real time events that instead of being straight cutscenes, are controllable by Noctis. Nomura always said he wanted the majority of the cutscenes in the game to be playable, and thus, all the seemingly impossible gameplay moments where he teleports from building to building stabbing enemies etc. Those I believe are playable cutscenes and not fully controllable gameplay, and those cutscenes will likely only be controllable by the main character in the story Noctis.

          • Solomon_Kano

I’m not sure what you mean by playable cutscene, but the teleporting from the E3 trailer is fully controlled by the player. It’s his Warp command. You can aim his swords and he teleports to where the swords connect.

          • Anime10121

In that interview he stated he wanted the cut-scenes to remain playable. When you watch the gameplay trailer for XV, it shows what was originally a cutscene in the first trailer to be playable in the game

When watching the gameplay trailer the scene here looks to control differently than that of the regular gameplay. In the “cutscene” gameplay, his warps look extremely accurate (I mean, think about how hard it’d be to aim that homing reticule across buildings to enemies barely visible right after killing an enemy on a building, I’m sure there’ll be a little help to fix the camera so the event plays as planned), whereas when he’s fighting the armored enemies/behemoths, his warps seem kinda all over the place.

But I dunno, thats just the way I saw it, might not be how I imagine, have to wait on more info to confirm it, but either way (playable event scene or no), its still playable, and a departure from the noninteractive cutscens of years past (though its supposed to have its fair share of those too).

Dont know if you get my explanation or not, hell even I have trouble trying to put it into words, but yeah, thats what I meant :P

          • Anime10121

But then again lock-on kills the theory of how hard it’d be to aim the reticule. I have no idea what I’m talking about. NOMURA I DEMAND MORE INTERVIEWS!!!

          • Solomon_Kano

Okay, I get you. But, yea, I’d imagine there’s lock on lol. It’s a thing in KH, and it’d make sense here as well.

An example of the playable cutscene thing you were referring to, I would think, would be in the 2011 trailer when that ship crashes into the building Noctis and Stella are talking in and all the soldiers pour out. Or in the new trailer when he’s swimming next to Leviathan.

          • Anime10121

Oh and one more thing I dont know if youre aware of, but another benefit of them switching to PS4 was that he said on PS3, when driving a car on the world map, they would have MAJOR framerate issues, but it works on PS4.

Its what I keep trying to tell people that the switch to Next gen wasn’t for their health, the game they want to create is not possible on this gen of consoles with their memory constraints. The move to purely next gen will allow them to create the game we saw in the 2011 trailer (day/night cycles, commanding mech, open worlds, etc) all possible :)

          • Solomon_Kano

If you want a glimpse of it, you can peep the gameplay trailer from E3. The player briefly controls Prompto. You can see a longer look at his gameplay from the game’s 2011 trailer. He makes the game play like Dirge of Cerberus.

          • Chiupon

They’ve changed the mechanics a lot since the 2011 trailer, along with the menus interface — it doesn’t change when Prompto appears, btw. Which lead to my doubts.
That seemed more like a scene or something pre-rendered??
but the stuff isn’t finalized right now so derp.
(like literally the hud didn’t change at all and gave no indication that the player was anyone other than noctis.)

          • Solomon_Kano

Ah, you’re right. I didn’t even notice the HUD hadn’t changed, but yea, perhaps it’s still underway so they just left us with Noct’s? Guess we’ll see once we get some more.

          • Chiupon

Yep!~ i’m sure that was just some trailer stuff they left unfinished. I doubt that’s what the final gameplay is gonna look like.

          • Allah!! that’s a relief ….I don’t like a Numbered FF to have a complete KH system.

  • Maybe the girls will be shown at TGS

  • Shady Shariest

    About time :P

  • Sango

So if this is Notcis squad, I’m guessing Stella has a crew as well. I demand a redhead.

  • Isaac Newton

    Bad-ass walking LOL
I like the clothes it’s more realistic and it’s simple to cosplay XD..

    • *light laugh* (it’s simple to cosplay) !!
is that what comes to mind?

  • tubers

    Pet peeve; tacky soles.

    • Leitiso

While tacky they provide the only contrast in the outfit. It’s very Japanese cutting edge fashion.

  • Kai2591

Square Enix sure love their crystals…it’s always about them crystals every frikkin time.

    • Leonardo Duarte

Have you ever played the 4 first Final Fantasy games? Well, ok, let’s count to 6, yeah, 6.

In FF1, they are the “life” of the world.
In FF2, they’re the seals that bind the most powerfull magic of all-time, Ultima
      In FF3, again, they’re the world’s lifeforce
In FF4 line of games, it is thought to be the lifeforce of the world, but, in the end, they’re but fragments of the power of something greater AND they, again, bind something (Zemus)
In FF5, lifeforce AND seal one more time. Now they maintain the two worlds apart, both world that were once part of a whole one.
In FF6 we have a diferent approach, they’re the Magicite.
I… Don’t know about 7 and 8. But 9, AGAIN the crystal is the lifeforce and seal.

So… To keep things straight: The crystals, most of time, are the CORE of the series, not just the magic and such things. If you look in the story, the primary source of magic, is the crystals, and magic is another core of the series.

All in all, if you don’t have crystals, you might not have a “genuine” Final Fantasy franchise game.

      • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

In FF7 they are a form of energy solidified that can be used to generate electricity. In FF12 they are weapons of mass destruction. In FF13 Serah is a crystal.

      • Ferrick

in FF9, the main title is a crystal… yeah… actually in FF9, crystals are the source of all life

      • Sorry for the redundancy but yah:

VII – The crystals don’t exist but the Huge materias makes reference to the 4 elemental crystals.
VIII – They don’t exist except maybe there’s a crystal in the center of Lunatic Pandora.
IX – It has no mention until Disc 4 where Kuja almost destroyed the Crystal that was all source of life and yadah yadah, same principle as the lifestream.
X – No crystals, the spheres may do a reference but nope.
XI – Didn’t played but I think there are crystals.
XII – I don’t remember but yeah, I think they are weapons.
XIII – People turn into crystal once their focus has been accomplished if Im not mistaken.

Dissidia – Get da 10 crystals for each MC~

        • Ferrick

for IX, it was already mentioned in disc one, her “falcon claw” is a crystal

VIII – it was a calamity
X- i don’t think spheres and dresspheres count
XI – Crystals are the source of life and nature
          XII – savepoints… yeah…

          XIII – Congrats! you’re a crystal XD

          • IX… whut.

What calamity do you mean in VIII?

          • Ferrick

garnet’s necklace is called “falcon claw” and its a crystal, well part of it

VIII – the crystal is called the crystal pillar here, and its used to summon monsters from the moon to wreak havoc to the world

          • Oh, when you said ambigously her I didn’t knew what you meant lol.

I don’t think the Crystal Pillar was mentioned in VIII at all, maybe the game with my language translation missed it but yeah, I could only remember a Crystal shinning inside the Lunatic Pandora, seems in VIII it was the first time the Crystal didn’t acted a celestial force or something.

    • add FFVII : the materia concept.
is like that of crystal ,,,, If I remember right they make it from crystals actually.

I played FFVIII but I don’t remember the Crystal in it …
But then Again FFXII : Revenant Wings the Crystal are all over the World

  • vileBrenman

But… Which character is which? I know there is a picture of them but I would like to put names to faces.

  • Ronldbx6

    Unfortunately, I still don’t know who’s who.

  • marclair

I’m callin’ it right now: “Noctis, you /are/ the crystal!”

    • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

Now I get why this game has been in development for so long:

      Nomura: You’re a crystal, Noctis.

      Noctis: I’m a what?!

Nomura: Yes Noctis, you’re a crystal.

      Noctis: But I’m just Noctis.

Nomura: Okay, Just Noctis, you’re a crystal.

Noctis: Listen here dude I’m just Noctis!

Nomura: Noctis, for god’s sake, you are a crystal!

      Noctis: A CRYSTAL?!

Nomura: Listen Noctis, you’re going to go to Versus XIII and do SPELLS and SH!T. And you’re going to be F”#!”NG pleased about it!

Noctis: I don’t WANT to do your F#$”%% spells you BASKET CASE! stick it up your fucking O_:)-HOLE!

      Nomura: My #$._.% what?!

Toriryama: Looks like it’s taking them so time so we’ll go on with the other Lightning game. Lightning, you will be the Goddess’ warrior

      Lightning: I’m a what?

      • Anime10121

  • Vash bane

lol I don’t know what order are the characters XD
but they all look pretty cool.
but the guy to the far right is new to me.

  • icantstandthisindecision

I do NOT care that this cast is either entirely or a majority of male characters; they all look amazing, and it changes nothing about how I thought of the game before now. THAT SAID, however, Final Fantasy has always been capable of creating developed and amazing female cast members– so I hope to see some in XV, though I can’t say I’d be disappointed otherwise.

  • stargazeR

“The only crystal left to the world lies in the Kingdom of Lucis” So this is the last FF?

  • Too much swag *puts on sunglasses*…or not enough swag, I haven’t decided yet. (I really hope costumes are a thing).

The comments of how they look like a boy band make me hope they release some type of vocal CDs and have the VAs sing their “themes” :)

  • artemisthemp

    Where is the female?

  • chroma816

I really want those shoes, man. They’re swaggin as fuck.
