Chronos Materia Lets Players Rewind Time To Change The Future

By Spencer . June 26, 2013 . 4:31pm

Gust’s upcoming PlayStation Vita RPG takes a page from Radiant Historia. Famitsu explains, players can rewind time to different spots in the game and change how events unfold. You retain character levels and items when you skip around the game so it’s possible to defeat bosses that you couldn’t beat before. The game has branch points like a fire that burns down a forest village, which you can change by making different choices. Gust’s concept is to create a RPG that’s easy to get into and more replayable than other RPGs.

Chronos Materia’s characters like Iris and Thyme are drawn by Non, a Vocaloid Illustrator. Like most of Gust’s games, Chronos Materia has a synthesis system where you can create items. The game has monsters to fight of course, but details about the battle system haven’t been revealed.

Chronos Materia will come out on September 26 for PlayStation Vita.

    This sounds awesome

    • Highasthesky

Then it won’t leave Japan :D

      • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

        It’s Gust, so there’s a 90% chance it will. Hopefully~.

        • xXDGFXx

That was true when they were still owned by NISA. Now its Tecmo, so who knows.

          • TheExile285

Temco has localized all their Vita games so far though. Only one that up in the air is Warriors Oichi 3 Ultimate.

I personally hope that comes over too.

          • aquagon

Don’t forget about Ciel Nosurge, which has pretty much zero chance to come over here due to how long it has been since it was first released.

          • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

Yes but to be fair, Ciel Nosurge is ultra niche. We may want it badly, but we are a minority in the most literal sense of the word~.

          • http://superkurisutina.tumblr.com/ Kurisu Makise

Gust was never owned by NISA, they just had a publishing contract.

      • TheExile285

I have some faith in NISA or Arkys

        • DesmaX

It is Gust, so Tecmo Koei

          • TheExile285

I keep forgetting they own Gust now. They have been pretty good with Vita releases so unless this bombs in Japan I think it will come over. Even if just DD only.

          • ShadowDivz

            pretty good with vita releases?
They just chucked totori on the PSN without so much a how-do-you-do?
But they are bringing Meruru…. And Toukiden.
I guess only time will tell.

          • TheExile285

At least they are releasing them though.

            Unlike Namco…

Edit: oh and they also localized both Vita Ninja Gaidens and DoA5+.

          • Seraph

As a New Zealander, I’m still waiting for Totori plus as we never got it over here.

Same with almost any Dynasty Warriors DLC

          • ShadowDivz

            touche.

          • Learii

ya Namco don’t care about us

          • http://linkapics.tumblr.com/ Linka

Far as I know/have heard, apparently the reason Totori Plus got absolutely no mention is because they literally did not have any sort of marketing team at that time. The game had gotten a mention on the EU TK page, apparently.

I guess they fixed that whole issue for their NA team though since Meruru Plus got a trailer this time.

          • http://superkurisutina.tumblr.com/ Kurisu Makise

No marketing team eh? Were they in transition from one team to a next? Cause I could actually believe that considering their other releases around that time.

          • http://linkapics.tumblr.com/ Linka

It seems like they were in the middle of a transition, yeah. I did notice their official NA twitter was dead as a doornail at the time too, so no real PR going on there either.

          • http://superkurisutina.tumblr.com/ Kurisu Makise

Sounds fair, plus we indeed got the Meruru+ Trailer. Alright, all is forgiven this time Tecmo Koei NA (I still openly love Tecmo Koei in general though <3)

          • xXDGFXx

Guaranteed that I’m going to be disappointed on how they handle Gust’s game.

          • ShadowDivz

            You just ruined my hope.

        • Highasthesky

People seem to think it will make it over so i’ll keep my eye out.

          • Fefen Ardiansyah

toukiden appear on E3 and was confirmed for localization, hope this will tpp

      • Warboss Aohd

i dunno, it IZ on Vita, i’d said chancez are betta den ya think.

    • LightGenx

Sounds like every other Gust game but with a time travel component thrown into the mix.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

This game looks gorgeous and as usual, it has that Gust feeling.^_^

Vita is shaping to be a nice Jrpg handheld now.^_^

  • Duo Maxwell

Sound like Dark Cloud 2, and I loved that game. Vita needs more love like this, not more ported games.

  • Warboss Aohd

    ……so basically Radiant Historia?

    • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

yup but got to see if the story great enough to be Radiant Historia

    • Triplicity

If it’s HD Radiant Historia then that’s already a great baseline in my my book at least

  • Bunzi

    Pffft.

    A page from SONIC CD.

Man I’ve never liked the gimmicky time travel mechanic more than the super happy remixes that brings.

    • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

      wut
Then u hate Chrono Trigger and Zelda Ocarina of Time.

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Please be 2D, Please be 2D, Please be 2D, Please be 2D, Please be 2D, Please be 2D,

    • Zuhri69

Please be third person rpg, please be third person rpg, please be third person rpg.

      • FitzpatrickPhillips

        Noooooooo

        • Zuhri69

Hahahaha. What’s wrong with 3rd person?

          • FitzpatrickPhillips

I think you mean 3D, since 2D is still in 3rd person. And nothing really, I just miss GUST’s 2D sprites.

          • Zuhri69

Ohh, no I meant the 3rd person point of view, like the typical turn base RPG (where you can see your characters sprites, doing damage, walking and such). Because now it seems like most company prefers the first person point of view.

          • FitzpatrickPhillips

Ooh then we were on the same page, haha. I didn’t mean first person. I meant 2D sprites like Mana Khemia over 3D character models like Ar Tonelico 3.

          • Zuhri69

            Yeah, I wish so too.

    • Sekainashi

        Yeeeeahhhhhhhh

  • Raoni Marques

The upper part of Thyme’s outfit screams Malik (Tales of Graces F). He’s really cool.

  • https://twitter.com/BinksFrost Binks5

sounds interesting though until they reveal more I will reserve myself to think they will not use it to its full potential but regardless it has my attention messing with time is always fun

  • Anonymous

    Looks interesting

  • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

    Hmm…

  • JustThisOne

I’ve always been fond of playing around with time, in this sense. Whether or not they have the storytelling skills to pull it off well though… hmm.

  • http://geekouts.blogspot.com/ miruki

Time travel AND alchemy? …There exist no words that could describe how much I want this.

  • Damarius Wingfield

    WHO TOOK MY MATERIA!!!!!!???????
