Solve Crimes With Professor Layton’s Son

By Spencer . June 27, 2013 . 8:24am

mzl.lzjfxvyl.320x480-75 Level-5 expanded the Professor Layton series with a crime solving game for iOS. Layton Brothers: Mystery Room sounds like it might star Hershel’s long lost brother, but no this game is all about Layton’s son. Alphendi Layton works in Scotland Yard and his first case in Layton Brothers: Mystery Room is to find out who murdered a woman in a hotel.

The game looks more like Ace Attorney titles since you help Alphendi collect clues at the crime scene, point out contradictions, and confront culprits. You can get the first two cases in Layton Brothers: Mystery Room for free. Another seven cases are available as in-app purchases.

This game also brings up a new mystery… when did Professor Layton have a son?

Better not dwelve too deep into the mistery of whether this game just had the Layton name applied on it as a cash-grab. The guy looks nothing like Layton anyway.

    • Zero_Destiny

Maybe he’s adopted? :O Or maybe Layton eventually settled down and married a women who already had a kid?

This mystery just keeps gettin’ deeper and deeper . . .

Professor Layton and the Mysterious Offspring, for the Nintendo 3DS, release date TBA.

Heh yeah, I may end up being more curious about the connection between this and the regular Layton series, than about the actual murder mysteries…

Almost would’ve been better if this had just been a standalone IP/series, since it seems like it’s an interesting game anyways!

Maybe Layton’s wife wasn’t honest with Layton while he was off solving puzzles and mysteries?

I’ve only played through the prologue and first case so far, but the translation seems pretty spotty.

    Interesting

I have gotten 20 minutes in to the game, but now it keeps crashing a couple minutes after I load my file.

Huge Layton fan, so I’ll give it a go, but based on these comments, I’d better hedge my expectations.

    “Brothers”? Where are the others?

    • Mythril

Alphendi Layton does mention something about his brother during the first case. Don’t remember the exact words though.

He also says something roughly like “I’m not a professor. My father who is a university professor would not approve of you calling me that.”, but that is the only actual reference to the regular Layton series so far (well, besides Scotland Yard I guess). I’ve only played the first case though.

I must say I did kind of like the game, although I made a bunch of mistakes before getting the clues right. (But I did guess the correct suspect! :P ) There doesn’t seem to be any penalties for making the wrong choices, unlike Ace Attorney.

I thought for sure, that was Daru in the photograph. LOL

Ahahaha I had to go see it again and it does look like Daru :P
