Tecmo Koei Supporting Toukiden With Free DLC

By Spencer . July 3, 2013 . 1:55am

toukiWhen you release a hunting game in Japan it’s almost standard to give players free downloadable content.  Sony gave Soul Sacrifice players more monsters. Gods Eater Burst is still getting DLC even years after its release. Tecmo Koei is following suit with Toukiden, a hunting game where you fight monsters based on Japanese mythology.

Toukiden will get a multiplayer mission on July 11 and another mission on July 18.

Toukiden came out last week for PSP and PS Vita in Japan. Tecmo Koei confirmed they will bring Toukiden to the West later this, but only the Vita version.

The demo (at least the PSP one) was decent, but just that. I don’t think the Musou combat system, even if this one is a bit faster, is well suited to hunting games. Today we should know the sales numbers – I’m not expecting much.

There was a post that the games supplies got sold out sorry I have to dig twitter for that and I’m really lazy atm XD

Mmh, I suppose you mean this?

Doesn’t really mean much though, if their first shipment was small.

It went quite strong in the preorder phase. It could turn easely more than 100K pieces first week.

That sounds difficult to accomplish, but we’ll see. I think the DW combat system in a MH-like game might turn off fans of the latter, while not pleasing fans of the former due to a lack of proper historical setting and the emphasis on hunt quests.

Or maybe it will turn out successful exactly because it blended the two different aspects well. In any case, they are lucky that Namco delayed GE2.

Edit: well I stand corrected. MC data is in, and Toukiden sold roughly 190k units, with the PSV version at 122k. That’s even higher than Soul Sacrifice (not counting the SS twin packs, but not counting the PSP version of Toukiden either). Nice one for Tecmo Koei.

The 66k sales of the PSP version are also pretty decent. Did they say if the two versions have cross-platform multiplayer?

Yep according to the video cross-platform multiplayer works.

I want this. Must finish clearing g rank mh3u first.

free content is the best way to keep your players happy and your community alive. Glad more and more studios realise that.

  • Very nice, next I’d like a soundtrack and anime series :3

I love these hunting games. I do need to play more monster hunter though. I am so close to G rank, but other games have distracted me, like Project X zone.

  • MyBodyIsReady

    Based on japanese mythology eh?

    So here’s a giant enemy crab…

  • KnifeAndFork

I remember Trinity: Souls of Zill O’ll had a crap load of free DLC for the JPN version. Unfortunately, Koei decided NOT to localize any of it. Thanks Koei..
