This week’s Japanese magazine leaks reports that Killer is Dead director Goichi Suda is working with Namco Bandai on an upcoming PlayStation 3 side-scrolling game, Ranko Tsukigime’s Longest Day.

The game is based on Akira creator Katsuhiro Otomo’s upcoming film, Short Peace, which will play in theaters later this month. The film is made up of four short films with different styles and stories, directed by Otomo and others. Ranko Tsukigime’s Longest Day will be considered the fifth short story of the film, but it’s a video game.

Goichi Suda, known for Killer is Dead and No More Heroes, is the scenario writer for the game. He will team up withTokyo Jungle director Yohei Kataoka who will be the directing the upcoming title. According to leaks, Ranko Tsukigime’s Longest Day is a 2D side-scrolling “high-speed effect action” game, that will require the use of “effects” to take out enemies. The game’s theme will be in a modern day Japan setting.

Ranko Tsukigime’s Longest Day is currently in development for PlayStation 3.

From the credits I’m reading alone, it sounds like one of those god tier collabrations… Suda51? Katsuhiro Otomo (and others)? I look forward to seeing how the films turn out and the line up of directors.

  • I dunno the last time suda 51 team up with two giants didn’t they create a rather average game, not a bad one but nothing mind blowing, i’m not expecting another killer 7 but anything suda51 is usually worth keeping an eye on

    • haku67

shinji mikami also worked on killer 7 as well. so I don’t know I’m just going to blame EA on shadows of the dammed. it was going to have darker themes at one point :/

      anyway yay new suda games!

I’m cautiously optimistic about this collaboration.

The great thing about Suda is his work is unfiltered in the same way Kojima’s work is. Suda revels on excess, and that’s the beauty of his work. Not everyone can pull it off, but he does and we’re left with these unique crazy LSD inspired creations.

Collaborating with someone, however, is give and take. Suda might have to dial it down with his usual approach to be able to compliment the world Otomo has set up. You essentially put a filter on Suda by doing this. Despite that Otomo, Suda and Kataoka can give us something special here. Hopefully that’s the case.

I won’t even try to figure out, what those ppl have in mind as Suda will make it crazy :)

  • unknowncast

So…..does this mean that a Guardian of the Galaxy game is possible with Suda?

  • DAMN IT, Suda. Just when I’m ready to give you up, this comes along.

  • Well alright then.

Otomo’s a real genius of design. That power armor was designed over 30 years ago and is still more realistic than anything coming out today.

  • Gilgamesh2025

    Nah … well, okay …

  • ragingmerifes

    Something insane oncoming.

  • Damarius Wingfield

DAT pose he made before clicking video thumbnail!

  • Solomon_Kano

Wonder if this’ll be retail? Because I’d totes buy this.

The power armor featured in ‘Short Peace’ was first designed in 1977.
It’s possibly the earliest rendition of a serious, realistic power armor. Otomo has really changed the entire world of sci fi with his artwork.
