Drakengard 3’s Four Is More Reserved, But Still As Promiscuous Deep Down

By Sato . July 18, 2013 . 12:00pm

So far, we’ve been introduced to Drakengard 3’s Utautai sisters starting with the violent Zero and her tragic past, the just-minded One, and the avaricious Five. Famitsu’s latest report gives us a look at “Four,” who seems to be a little more timid than her sisters, but isn’t too different deep inside.

Four is the fifth Utautai sister who rules a country located in a mountainous area. Her speech and attitude resemble that of an honor student, as she has an earnest personality and takes her time to listen to the words of others. However, behind her formal personality lies a hidden inferiority complex.

Similar to the other Utautai, Four shares a vigorous sense of promiscuity, but she seems to have a bit of a problem in that regard, due to her suppressed personality. For this reason, Four is the only virgin of all the sisters.

The weapon changing mechanism has also been upgraded in Drakengard 3, as it allows you to seamlessly change weapons in the middle of the action. For example, you can perform a sword combo and switch it to a spear in the middle to continue the beating.

Finally, the Famitsu report shares a short interview with Drakengard 3 producer Takamasa Shiba and sound director Keiichi Okabe.

The theme song for the game, “Kuroi Uta” (Black Song), will be sung by Eir Aoi (pictured right), a singer who gained fame after  she was discovered through Nico Nico Douga. Famitsu asks the developers about their reason for choosing her.

“I think many of you may already know this, she’s actually a huge fan of the Drakengard series, which played a big role on the decision,” says producer Shiba.

“The singer herself understands our work and also shares a love for it, to top it off. So, having our work with her song together, should bring out something great for our fans.”

Music will be a huge part of Drakengard 3, and the developers have put a lot of thought into it thus far. Famitsu asks about their impression after listening to the game’s soundtrack.

“No matter how good the graphics are, I believe that 40% of a game’s performance comes from the music,  which may seem a little overboard,” Shiba expresses. “At the least, music is a very crucial part, and I believe that Drakengard 3 will be something incredible.”

Famitsu asks whether they were able to get a positive vibe from the response, thus far.

“It’s not actually complete, so we can’t say anything as far as responses go; however, in addition to the theme song, there are many pieces that have been decided on by those who are working on the game, along with the composers, not to mention an artist who loves are work will also be singing for us,” Shiba shared.

He concluded, “The music fits perfectly in the game, and thanks to that, the feeling of the game feels great. It may be a little too early to say how much the fans will value our work, but as makers of the game, that’s what we aim for.”

Sound director Keiichi Okabe adds, “The production has been tough, but this time we had the experience to try things we weren’t able to before, so I believe there will be parts that will surprise players, regardless of whether they like the music or not.”

Drakengard 3 is slated for release on October 31 for PlayStation 3.

Looks like I have an unforgettable soundtrack to look forward to~ <3

    • Aoshi00

Greatly looking forward to Okabe Keiichi and co.’s Drakengard 3 soundtrack, I could listen to the epic Nier tracks forever.. cool the theme song is being sung by a singer who’s a fan of the game as well. thank god siliconera finally changed the name to utautai lol :) Four looks great!

  • Luis Camargo

Another day. Another Drakengard news. Another plead and begging for this game to be localized ASAP.

    I need this.

    • Kevin Schwarz

Why? When we “need” something, that something imply we can’t keep on literally living without it. Such as water. We NEED water, or air… just kidding. It will be localized, eventually, I hope!

  • Solomon_Kano

It’s official. Four’s got my favorite design out of the sisters.

    • Go2hell66

Nah i’d have to go with zero

      • Curan_Altea

I love Fours design, but agreed.
        sticking by Zero.

    • Slayven19

      I like your taste Solo.

      • Anime10121

Me likey One, and then Four, and then, Zero.

    • ShadowDivz

I like 5 the most. Those sexy thighs….

    • AnimusVox

She’s not what I was expecting compared to her moe version.

      • Solomon_Kano

Yea, I was actually expecting something a bit different based on her moe form.

    • Duo Maxwell

      “How was your sex life?”

And her inferior complex kicks in.

    • Namuro

Based on what I’ve seen from the e-manga, I think I’ll end up liking Two’s design best. But for now, Four’s my favorite as well!

      • Solomon_Kano

Two has the gauntlets, right? I really want to see how those look in the game’s art style.

        • Rayhan PromisedGallery

One, Five, and Four has different weapon in Utahime 5 manga and in the game CG so far.
In the game they are more like Magical girl who summon things instead of directly fighting.
So, Two definitely has something different too

          • Solomon_Kano

One has a sword in Utahime 5, doesn’t she have a sword in the game as well?

  • PoweredByHentai

Is Drakengard 3 coming to the US?

    • MrSirFeatherFang

Nothing has been discussed whether or not it’s coming at all :(

      • PoweredByHentai

So we only have the Japanese release date then. I guess that simplifies whether I should import or not.

  • cloudcaelum

Can’t wait for Soundtracks, game is in the second.

  • Thomaz Barros Costa

    Drakengard 3

    Where everyone is a slut

  • Altin

Okay, just to get this straight:
Teal, argyle pattern socks worn over floral pattern stockings?

    F*ckin Sold right there.

    • You forgot the great lenght of her legs.

      • Altin

Also, these classy boots like great as well. Man, they really did a great job with those character designs!

    • KOTheWorld

Those are floral patterned, yes, but they aren’t stockings. They are pantyhose

      • Altin

They really looked like Stockings to me. Lucky for us – Pantyhoses are just as great as stockings!

  • Brimfyre

Thankfully this site is giving this game proper coverage.

Not surprisingly, the first mention Kotaku made of it was about this character being a virgin and implying that is offensive somehow.

    • Bur

      Can’t be a virgin, can’t not be a virgin… /sigh

    • Altin

Well, people still consider Kotaku to be good “journalism”.

Also, remember that Schreier dude that took it as a offense that the cup size of the Dragon’s Crown Sorceress is too big? Yeah, Kotaku is quite blatantly said, stupid.

      • puchinri

I think he had a fair point/complaint with the Sorceress, even if he didn’t frame everything as well as he could have, but the article that came out recently for Drakengard 3 was handled very silly. Kotaku has its fatal flaws. (Versus other sites that just have flaws.)

        • Altin

It’s not necessarily the fact how he argumented it, but rather that he argumented against it to begin with. It’s fair to not like how “sexist” those characters seem to be, but to blatantly proclaim that this game is just another cash-in for a game solely by having boobilicious characters is what is ticking me off. Also, insulting the artist as a premature child who just likes boobs is kind of a low-blow as well, considering he is a very good artist with his own style.

And that it is coming from the bunch that released other news like a police call because of a too spicy Nugget Burger is the icing on the cake.

          • puchinri

I think Kamitani is a pretty fair artist, but if someone doesn’t like his style or feels that it looks too exaggerated, they’re free to that opinion and to critique his art (and any artist should expect that). Definitely more mature ways to approach it though. (And Kamitani’s response didn’t help at all and was incredibly immature as well.)

Personally, I think his issue was that character design like that reinforces not only a boys’ club mentality, but a very young boys (emphasis on that word) mentality in general and it’s somewhat true and is something that needs mentioning from time to time. We’re free to enjoy these things, as long as we can recognize it and point it out (and understand, discuss, etc).

          • Altin

You could say that entitlement about anyone who likes to point out his own opinion but here is the thing; those guys consider themselves “journalists”. And journalists are supposed to keep some kind of formality and should remain informative and neutral. That’s what differs good journalists from journalists that write for tabloid magazines. And yeah, here is just a little incentive of how much of a jerk that guy is. Kamitanis response may not have been the best, but It is a way better apology than to subdue to his “criticism”. Apparently, Hideki Kamiya thinks the same way like I and probably many other people do.

Another fine example is the daily trainwreck called Hernandez. One day she feels offended that Fire Emblem: Awakening has a Bride Class, the other one she posts awesome X picture with a “strong, self-reliant female”. And this is just my point. If I want stupid, uninformative news to anything remotely related to “games”, I will go and buy a tabloid newspaper. I just want to see news about games being descriptive and neutral, not someones deep analysis over how he got “sexually offended” over the internet. No one complained about these things back in 2000, but now since some people take some stuff too seriously, basically every game with a female character with a cup size higher than C has become very offensive. It’s not about pointing out obvious things, it’s about shoving down how much of a crime it is to portray female in that way, down to our throat.

Also, I think this 20 Seconds explain Kotaku in probably the best way I can imagine:

    • Erikdayo

I visit Kotaku almost every day… but more and more I am coming here. Especially since a vast majority of the coverage here seems to be for games from Japanese developers, which are generally what I play 95% of the time.

      • biskmater

        I know that feeling.

      • Altin

I heard of Kotaku, wanted to look for gaming news, had to scroll down like 4 times to find actually some. And their totemooo kowaiii deysuu yo-crap is just plain annoying. I wouldn’t mind it if it was some sensible info on Japanese news or language, but that shit right there is just pandering to the public’s basest instincts.

  • brian

I think this is going to be my favorite character (and mai waifu) so far.

  • SpectralRaiden

Why are all the sisters so…perverted!? Still, I really like each of their backstories so far; It’s one of the game’s biggest appeals imho. Can’t wait ’till they release “Black Song”–I wonder if it’s game specific (OST exclusive) or will it be on Eir’s album?

    • Minos

Bad writers always use Sex as a way to empoyer women characters since they dont know otherwise.

Futurama made fun of this once, that chapter when they had to re-create a 20 Century’s “Lawer program” or some ETs would destroy the world.

      • AkuLord3

Yes that’s why there’s a character who hasn’t had sex…oh wait what. I’m not saying you’re wrong but that’s not what they’re doing in this

        • Minos

And its the weaker of the girls and with an inferiority complex.

On the other games all the characters were twisted on their own-unique ways.

          • Mr_SP

“Weaker”? No one said she was weaker. And there’s no doubt that she’s twisted… or perhaps they’re taking the Nier route, and she’s a victim and the only normal Utatai.

          • Ferrick

inferiority complex does NOT always equate to someone being the weakest, just putting this out there

      • Pekola

Lol you’ve got a lot guts saying this might have bad writing. I’ll give you that much.

      • puchinri

Very true, sadly. In this case, it actually doesn’t sound misused yet or like it’ll be abused, but I am kind of leaving room to not get too disappointed if it doesn’t stay true to what I’m expecting (which is some level of maturity).

      • Anonymous917

There’s certainly something off about how they’re putting an emphasis on sex as a way to appear mature and edgy. I hate it when stories use shock factors as a way to appear more mature just to cover up shoddy writing.

Of course, I’m not saying Drakengard 3 is going to have guaranteed bad writing. It’s still on a wait and see approach.

    • puchinri

Being a Drakengard title, I kind of expect the sexuality and it sounds like it’ll probably be handled well, so I’m glad there’s plenty of sexuality going around~.

    Aw she’s a virgin.

    And she’s my virgin.

  • Haven’t heard her voice yet, but I love her prsonality, looks, and style. She’s quite beautiful I must say. =^_^=

Looks like AzureNova is going virgin hunting =P

    • MrSirFeatherFang

Virgin Hunt is an excellent manga. Although NSFW because it’s 18+ :D
I hope you prepare yourself by reading it, I would think it would aid you on your quest.

      • I shall use it as my hand guide lol =P

        • ShadowDivz

I see what you did there…

  • deadMastershiro

Still saving but so many games.

  • Anime10121

Stop teasing me (dont really) Siliconera, every article you post I do a search for loclalization and am saddened at the no results found :(

    I must have this game.

    • zaidandzhadow

I think that the domains of drakengard 3 were registered by SE so that means hope for the localization, as the japanaese page should have something like drag-on-dragoon 3

  • Dagobert

I hope Square Enix won’t pull a dick move and not localize this.

    • However, a note to remember: Square-Enix didn’t even localize Drakengard 2. Ubisoft released it.

      • Dagobert

Yeah which I still have doubts Square Enix will localize that and I doubt someone else will pick it up and localize it.

  • AnimusVox

She’s a brunette AND she has green eyes?! You’re killin me with these gorgeous women Fujisaka.

  • biskmater

Nothing I love more than a closet pervert.

  • Thomaz Barros

    Drakengard 3
    Where everyone is a slut

    • Damarius Wingfield

*claps hands and nodes with eyes closed*

    • puchinri

Except Four! You can’t be promiscuous if you haven’t done anything. But I guess she has until the end of the game.

  • Lemon

Considering this series, either something terrible will happen to her, or she’ll do/unleash something terrible.

  • Tom
  • Rayhan PromisedGallery

Drakengard fans are not satisfied with japanese only, they seek complete localization.

  • Kuro Kairi

News of this game is music to my ears!

  • Kevin Schwarz

Maybe that’s just me, but Four sounds like she would have been a better choice for lead character in this game? Just thinking.

  • Brandon001

Just wanted to say, the innuendo in the first paragraphs last sentence is strong.
