Square Enix’s Chaos Rings Comes To Vita Next Week

By Spencer . July 18, 2013 . 1:42am

cring_vita2 Square Enix is bringing their smartphone RPG hit, Chaos Rings, to PlayStation Vita. The game will be re-released as a PlayStation Mobile title on July 24 so you can enter the Ark Arena on Vita.

Chaos Rings follows four pairs chosen to fight each other to the death with the promise of immortality as a reward. You choose which pair to play as like childhood friends Escher and Musiea. Escher was born into a royal family, but raised by thieves after he was kidnapped and Musiea was held captive with Escher.

Chaos Rings for PlayStation Mobile has not been announced for North America yet, but the game has already been localized into English and most PlayStation Mobile titles get worldwide releases.

Might regret this in the west. Going the extra mile to include the lil’ trophies would have probably greatly boosted the sales. Remarkable how much those tokens mean to gamers but it is true, and this being PSmobile rather than PSN is definitely a bad call.
And really; Chaos Rings is friggin’ great. I would have loved this to have been PSN; not for trophies, but that I could play it on my HD. Really fun, traditional RPG and there really just isn’t enough of that genre on the home-consoles.

    • Fion

      Yeah it really isn’t.
      At all.
And it still isn’t, no matter how stupid you are to think it is.

    • leeorv

      Agree 100%
but I’ll support the game anyway to get Media Vision more recognition for making a great game..

    • plmko

Nope, I’d prefer games (if they are simple) to be released on PS mobile rather than straight PSN. For the price of one game, you can download it and play on your Vita and any Android mobile phone, which means the game is accessible to you anywhere you want. If you want to play on the big screen, you can simply plug a phone/tablet or miracast it to your TV. This is a much more flexible system.

I don’t care about trophies too.

      • Kevadu

No, not any Android device. Only Playstation Certified ones…which are still a small minority of devices.

The only Playstation Certified device I own anyway is the Vita…

        • plmko

You can install Playstation Mobile on any Android device via Rooting.

It’s really quite an easy process and works flawlessly.

Might be a stupid question but do the touch screen controls remain? That would be a serious downer if that was the case.

    • leeorv

it’ll probably support both buttons and touch screen controls.

  • mwatcher

Doesn’t sound like trophies will be supported then, kind of a dealbreaker for me.

  • neogeno

Are there any new features added or is it nothing but a port?

  • MyBodyIsReady

This looks sweet. I’ll buy if the price is right

Oh and I don’t care about trophies. Sure they’d be nice but no way in hell would they stop me from playing a good JRPG

  • JuhRo

Awe.. I already knew this was coming to Japan.. when I saw this article title, I thought it meant NA. Bummer..

Ah, well. I’ll buy it when it inevitably comes over here.. This’ll be a lot of fun without the laggy touch controls. :) I’ll probably end up trying to 100% it.

I really do wish there was at least a silver trophy at the end of that tunnel, though.

  • ChiffonCake

Ah, a survival game, huh? I really like that premise, and the art looks pretty good too, so I’ll keep an eye on this.

    • leeorv

it’s a plot driven Console JRPG with puzzle mini games and an awesome skill system and multiple plots of multiple characters in a very elaborate setting.

      • ChiffonCake

I should’ve clarified that when I said “survival game”, I meant the kind of plot premise (i.e. Fate/stay night, Mirai Nikki, et al.), not the game genre. Whoops. :E

  • James

I’ll pick it up for sure if it gets localized. Hopefully Square doesn’t think it’s $40 worthy though. I could see up to $15-20

    • jujubee88

If memory serves me right, it’s just nine bucks

  • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

This better make it overseas, PSM game or not, it’s tons better than half of the pseudo PS Minis the PSV has gotten in the past months~.

    • jujubee88

The guys on the Playstation Blogcast said it is.

  • Dam that was quick

  • davidvinc

Does this have a traditional world map – if not, I won’t be buying.

    • Dexward

      Nope. No world map.

  • I was so close to getting this on iOS but price was holding me back. Assuming the price is right on PSM and the english release is done as well, I’ll be picking this up.

  • Katboy

It looks good for a PS Mobile game really..I wished more PSM games looked this good!

tropies would have been awesome too!

  • colorblindnightmare

Looks interesting enough, still in need of a vita. But I think this would be enjoyable :)
