Medabots: Dual Kabuto And Kuwagata Versions To Hit 3DS This Year

By Sato . July 23, 2013 . 8:52pm

This week’s issue of Famitsu reveals that the latest installment of the Medabots series, titled Medabots: Dual will be released in two versions of Kabuto and Kuwagata, later this year for the Nintendo 3DS.

Past titles in the franchise were RPGs, but Medabots: Dual will be an action game. Medabots: Dual has the same customization features that let players freely use parts to make create their own Medabot, which is used to fight against other opponents.

First print copies of the game will come with an exclusive card binder, an AR card that will give you a special part Medabot part, and a limited edition Medabot. Purchasers of the first print copies will also be included to a lottery for a chance to win 28 special AR cards.

Kabuto will be a shooter-type that focuses on long-ranged attacks, while the Kuwagata will be all about pulling consecutive combos in close-ranged combat. Both versions of the game will have different navigational voices, in Aya Endo for the Kabuto version, and Rie Kugimiya for the Kuwagata version.

Medabots: Dual will feature over 100 new Medabots to the series. Each Medabot will be made up of four parts: head, left-arm, right-arm, and legs, and you’ll acquire new parts upon winning fights.

There will also be tag team fights that can be done with teammates called “Buddies,” which will also include characters from past Medabot titles. A total of over 140 missions will be available. Medabots: Dual supports up to four players can in online mode where you can trade parts amongst each other.

Medabots: Dual Kabuto and Medabots: Dual Kuwagata will be released for 3DS later this year.

    Is this making a comeback?

    • Hollowkoopa

They try to make a comeback last year with the RPG but it didn’t sell well maybe this one will.

      • Highasthesky

        It had a RPG?

        • Rogerrmark

Yeah.Medarots 7,turn based aparently. Looked sweet,Natsume had some interest on the localization, but not anymore ):

        • JonathanisPrimus

The entire Medabots franchise dates back to a Gameboy RPG released in 1997. It later spawned countless manga, toys, trading cards, other video games, and of course the TV anime. Of the seven mainline games, only one has been released in English as Medabots: An RPG Adventure on GBA.

          • Chris

I remember that game and in fact still have it after reading this article gonna go play it again.

      • JonathanisPrimus

The publisher of the games said they were happy with the 100k sold.

    • JonathanisPrimus

The franchise came back in 2010 with Medarot DS, continued onwards with Medarot 7 in 2012 and now this entry.

  • KuroNathan

god I remembered this show when I was a kid, never did finish the story.

  • LightGenx

Medabots? It’s been so long. I loved that show.

    • Surgeon of Death

My childhood loves sneaking up on me. This show was great!

      • AuraGuyChris

Until they got rid of Karin and almost everyone important to the plot. Spirits was just unneeded so I pretend it didn’t exist.

  • Kyle Fedora

    Medabots is still a thing?

    • Renaldi Saputra

well, this is explaining in Japan. So, yes, it’s still a thing in Japan just like another niche series that now aren’t known that well in the west (especially US)..
for example: Digimon, Monster Farm, Summon Night, etc

  • Hau To

    This is the US version?

    • Neophoton

It mentions Famitsu, so likely not.

  • oh man been a long time since i heard of medabots, if it seems like fun i hope it makes it sateside

  • makubexnas

    Medabots > LBX

    • Pedro Furtado

Having playing games from both franchises, can’t really agree. Although I suppose their anime counterparts could be a different situation… I will just assume you speak out of nostalgia

  • Audie Bakerson

Not ENTIRELY new territory: Metabots AX also an action game.

I tried the GBA game that got released in English. It was OK, but holy crap those missables were arbitrary and given a narrow window (For example you are briefly taken to an island with 3 chests. If you don’t check the chest with an enemy in it again after the battle before leaving, you lose a valuable item that cripples you till late game. Straight after that after that you have to either talk to an NPC multiple times OR not at all to determine which set of sidequests you get, talking to the NPC once will get you neither), plus battles were SLOW and didn’t really give a lot of control. It also has a disturbing amount of forced crossdressing.

  • Go2hell66

medabots had the best intro song, hope they put it in the game

  • JonathanisPrimus

I’m from Project Rising Beetle, a fan campaign to get publishers interested in localizing Medarot games into English. If you would like to help us out check out

    • Bigabu Beaze

      • Renaldi Saputra

how about making a hashtag like Re:digitize Decode did recently.. and the name will be #OperationMetabee

        • Bigabu Beaze

Thats a good idea! I hope Takao reads this.

          • JonathanisPrimus

Who do you think is typing out this messqge, and created Project Rising Beetle? ;-)

          • Bigabu Beaze

            Your one step ahead man!

  • Mecha Hisui

Kuwagata version’s Medawatch voice will be a tsundere?

    • Renaldi Saputra

all characters that were voiced by Kugimiya Rie couldn’t just be called tsundere.. She’s able to voice some younger boys characters without adding the “tsundere” thing into them..

  • Strain42

Oh cool, Medabots. What a lovely surprise. I must say, I really look forward to NEVER BEING ABLE TO PLAY IT!!! -runs off sobbing-
