Square Enix’s Chaos Rings Is Now On Vita, Yes You Can Play It In English

By Spencer . July 23, 2013 . 11:42pm

Chaos Rings is a smartphone RPG designed to feel like a console game. You choose a pair of characters and fight through the Ark Arena for your life. Each male/female team has their story and they have to face the other teams in battle. Chaos Rings has an overarching story that ties all of the teams together, but you have to play through with each couple to figure out the mystery behind the Ark Arena.

Square Enix ported Chaos Rings to PlayStation Mobile, which means you can now play the game on Vita. Chaos Rings for PlayStation Mobile has standard gamepad controls and has been optimized for the platform. While Square Enix only announced this version of Chaos Rings for Japan, it’s on the US store for $7.99 and it’s in English. Chaos Rings also has Spanish, French, Korean, German, Japanese, and Chinese (simplified and traditional) language options.

  • Go2hell66

loved this game, had to be one of the most tragic stories i’ve ever seen in an rpg

  • MrSirFeatherFang

Nice. Hopefully I can get this soon!

  • Lord Búho

I wanted to get this, looked for it on PSN and then I saw it’s on PS mobile… which is not available in my country…

    • Go2hell66

good thing vita isn’t region locked then

      • JonathanisPrimus

That has nothing to do with what he said. PSM isn’t available in many countries, and if you’re in those countries you can’t buy the game unless you change PSN accounts to a region that does. Switching PSN accounts on Vita is a pain.

        • Lord Búho

Exactly, making another account, resetting my system and formatting my only memory card for a single game doesn’t appeal to me, thanks.

          • jujubee88

If you want to go hardcore and can afford a 4GB card (and the time), than you should just go that route.

It’s a pain though either way I agree. Thankfully, I live in a place where PSM is supported so I get to download and play these little thangs. :P

          • Tenetan

Affording a new memory card is the least of hte issue, resetting one is also not a issue, ti’s the fact that it’s a PITA every time you do it that is the Issue.

It’s more stuff you need to do then just that as well, you need need to example get $ from other regions and so fort, it’s a big and lengty process, Sure you CAN do it, but do you want to spend all that time?

          • Lord Búho

I surely don’t, I’ll just get the game for Android to play on my Xperia PLAY, hardly optimal but it’s a painless alternative.

          • jujubee88

Honestly, once you get through doing the options more than once you can do it within a few seconds. It’s that extremely drawn out intro movie that makes it bad. (Though, I usually just do something else on my iphone or PC while that plays)

  • Zypharium

I played the hell out of it on my iPhone. I’d love to see a new one.

  • Learii

is this real-time battle system or base turn?

    • Ferrick

      turn based

  • David García Abril

    How’s the English translation, though?

I say it because I have it in Spanish in my iPod and… well… It’s a mess. It’s painfully obvious the translators didn’t have any references and the quality assurance process had to be very scarce, if not non-existant.

    • leeorv

The english translation is very well done, I don’t recall seeing anything odd or low quality about it when I played it.

  • JonathanisPrimus

Buyer beware, there’s supposedly frame rate issues with this port. PSM is a very restricted environment.

    • jujubee88

Really? Where did you read this?

    • ErhmagerdWerds

I started playing it last night and there are a few issues with lag when encountering an enemy but the rest seems about the same as on the 4S? I’m not sure it’s been a long while since I played it on the iOS but I’m thinking maybe I just gave it more slack because it was on a phone so on the Vita it just doesnt feel as smooth.

    • Syn

The environment is that restricted?? that sucks, the graphics look like a decent psp game, one would expect it to run better on the PS Mobile platform.

  • Virevolte

The price seems fair. Can somebody tell me how many hours to beat the game ?

  • sakiu

Why PM? It is not even available in most European countries…

    • artemisthemp

Because Square Enix hate EU :P

      • sakiu

Or they did not check the facts if PM is or isn’t available in whole Europe ;p either way, this is such a wasted opportunity as PM is rolled out in like what? 10 countries worldwide?

  • http://amc9988.deviantart.com/ amc99

Is the story good, or is it simple and predictable?

    • leeorv

it’s about as far from “simple and predicatable” as I can imagine. the post game stuff especially blew my mind the first time I played them.

  • Martian Wong

What about Chaos Rings 2 and Omega? I just beat Chaos Rings 1 not too long ago.

    • TheExile285

patience. if CR sells well on PSM, I’m sure SE will port the other 2.

  • Tenetan

Read Chaos ring, was like YES Finally… Read Playstation mobile……. ¤%#¤%#¤%

  • Gilgamesh2025

    Good news! :)

  • Chrystofax

I just bought it afew hours ago, I bought on my android phone while ago but I never got around to finishing it, but at least now I can play it on a larger screen, I noticed abit of lag but its not a big deal

  • http://linkapics.tumblr.com/ Linka

Pretty cool. Actually hope this goes decently for them so they might bring over their other iOS/Android games to PSM.

  • new_tradition

I only recently bought CR2 for android, so I can wait before getting any of them for Vita.

I kind of hope they just compile the series into an actual Vita game card and sell it at retail. I mean, it worked for Angry Birds xD

  • mockturtle

Can I ask a dumb question? I’ve not used my Vita for several weeks (been busy with other games), but I don’t remember any way to access PlayStation Mobile. Is it via the Vita’s PSN store, or is it something separate? And yes, I’m in the US. I’d really like to get this.

And for the record, I’m out of town for the next two weeks and I left my Vita at home, so I can’t just donk around and try to find out myself.

    • Smooosh

It shows up between the “video” tab and the searchbar for me. There should be a tab called “PlayStation(R)Mobile”.
