New Atelier Rorona Brews Its Way To PlayStation 3 And Vita This November

By Sato . August 6, 2013 . 12:32am

In an earlier report, Gust director Yoshito Okamura talked to Dengeki PlayStation about the future of the Atelier series and reiterated his hint that Atelier Rorona being the next in line for a remake. This week Dengeki PlayStation revealed the remake, New Atelier Rorona, and it is in development for PlayStation 3 and Vita.

New Atelier Rorona will have plenty of new content according to the leak. The character modeling is said to have gone through a big upgrade, which will better depict the original illustrations.

The game will also feature new events and the time system has also been extended. Gust will also add a Time Capsule, item cultivation, additional trophies, new battle characters, and additional costumes.

New Atelier Rorona has a cross-save feature, allowing you to carry your adventures from the big screen on PS3 to your pocket on Vita or vice-versa. The PlayStation 3’s limited edition copy will come with a crystal paper weight, and a controller sticker, while the Vita’s limited edition will come with a mini-crystal paper weight, and a skin for the console.

New Atelier Rorona is slated for release this November for PlayStation 3 and Vita.

Now with more pies and barrels.

  • Milla

I love Rorona, never got true end but Sterk end was <3

    • SpecDotSign

True end didn’t end with Sterk and Rorona smashing. This new version better involve Rorona getting her freak on with Sterk. lol jk. My Rorona is a SAINT!

      • Radiosity

Kuu-chan is the only one for Rorona ;p

        • KuroNathan

Look at that! they’re like a couple! an adorable couple. Combined with the fact that she has Rorona’s key in totori (and blushes when asked why) I’d like to imagine them being one.

      • Audie Bakerson

No, it should be her ending up with Cory!

        Being Sterk is suffering.

        • KuroNathan

Yuri is the purest form of love!

    • ChiffonCake

Wow. Even if it’s blurry as hell, those legs/feet.

      • Anime10121

Wow. Even if it’s blurry as hell, DAT ART!

  • Nanaki

“Time system has also been extended”

    • I was thinking the exact same thing. Rorona is the only game in the Atelier franchise that gave me trouble due to the time limit.

      • AnimusVox

Oh good I thought I was one of only a few who thought the time constraints were a bit difficult.

    • Dokuro

That’s the only thing I wanted to know =)!!

  • サレム

    >Time system has also been extended

  • Of the Arland trilogy, this was the one that needed an update the most. I’d probably get this depending on: who the new characters are, what are their personalities like, what the new events are, etc.

  • kenshee

So errrm, I’m currently playing the original on and off, hardly making any progress, really not feeling the game at all :/

But it kind of hurts my inner Jrpg fanboy to pass up on an entire ps3 Jrpg series because of that.

How much improved could this be?

I’d have to say my biggest complaints are:
-Not enough story scenes and dialogue. These are the fun parts, so I’d hoped for almost as much of it as a VN would have, but there’s only a few (usually short) scenes per month :/
-Crashes… Speaks for itself, has happened about 4 times already and I haven’t played that long :/
-The time system, but they already said they’d tweak that and it’s less of a complaint than a feature that I don’t like in any game.
I stopped playing valkyrie profile as soon as I noticed going into a dungeon, leaving it to check out the town for a minute and then going back in lost me time I couldn’t get back… So yeah, I finished valkyrie profile 2 without really having a clue who lezard and everyone was. VP1 was probably better than VP2, but yeah, limited time :/
Also: BoF:DQ, I really liked that game. I however did not like being stuck on the final chain of bosses with no way to win and no way to level up any further without doing a … “give up game+” as I saw it >.>
So I’ll never know whether ryu and nina got to the surface or not…
Damnit this made me want to play that game again, and there’s a ton of games coming out soon, so I can’t, lol.

    • notentirelythere

If you dug the core concepts, most people agree that all of the other PS3 Atelier games improved upon or were just conceptually better than Rorona, mechanically. Also, Totori+ was my first time with them, and it brought at least a half dozen events every time I returned from an adventure.

  • Bobby Jennings

Did not see this coming.. :O

  • Monterossa

Yayyyy I love the Arland series.

  • Didn’t they say they weren’t going to remake Rorona? Oh well. More games for the Vita.

    • zweii

IIRC, they said they weren’t making a PLUS version for the vita which is a bit different.

      • Radiosity

Yeah, Gust specifically said Rorona would require too much work to get a plus version, then hinted heavily that it’d be a remake. And here we are.

        • Daniel Williams

I was honestly just expecting rorona to have a cameo appearance in a game somewhere, not a full remake :D

  • Nitraion

Hmm….. finally they do it making game on PS3 and Vita at same time….
so there is no grudge on “better” version…
I wish they pass up DLC chara thing so we can use all chara without spending more money…
I wonder they will change all younger sterk moves :)

  • Milla

    A scan for the curious.

    • AnimusVox

      Thank ya

  • kroufonz

    wow a full remake
nice, really love kishida mel works.
as long as TK didn’t mess the localization it would be day one for me.

    • We have yet to see how TK handle a PS3 title a.k.a Atelier Escha & Logy.

Guess this title will let us see if Vita can handle TK’s engine. I hope Vita will have nice quality, since Totori Plus didn’t leave me good impression with the fps and visual downgrade.

      • Anime10121

After Ayesha’s little fiasco, we have yet to see if TK will even see fit to localize Atelier Escha & Logy :(

        • Slayven19

You do know that it was a long while before we even got ayesha after it was released in japan right? Its only been about a month since Escha & Logy came out, give them time as they are still localizing other games.

          • Anime10121

Oh trust, I’m no stranger to how long it takes for localizations to be announced, but what I’m saying is, to recall the rage induced and “cancelled preorders” that were announced when Ayesha didnt have dual audio.

We dont know the sales data for the game, so there’s no telling if there was actually a massive drop in preorders for an already niche series.

Then add to the fact that Ayesha’s localization was handled by Nis America (along with the Plus titles for Vita), and this Escha and Logy will be the first title that TK would have to localize themselves. They may not find it worth the investment.

After finishing Ayesha, I’d likely buy Escha and Logy full price if its localized, but at this moment, there are a lot of variables to consider whether it’ll actually release here or not.

          • Slayven19

I don’t think we have anything to worry about on that front. They may even let NISA localize it again.

    • Slayven19

What do you mean mess with it? They own it now so why its in their hands. Honestly people don’t give TK credit for anything because they can localize games actually better than NISA. People were mad that we didn’t get pre-order bonus stuff like the artbooks collections but that’s really it. They mess up one game and people go to pieces.

      • Istillduno

They cheaped out on stuff a smaller publisher had gotten right for the past 3 games, not even leaving the origional audio in as a bare minimum, it’s no wonder people are suspicious when a series treated with such care in the past was tossed out like that.

Still at least they seem to be learning their lesson with Atelier Totori +, although I can’t help but think that when you are selling a product it’s a good idea to actually tell people you are selling that product rather then just having it appear silently in an online store one day like they are ashamed to have published it.

        • fernando jimenez

even with all that totori+ lasts like 2 months in the top 10 sales for vita in the psn, so they better bring the rest of the games…

        • Slayven19

Well that helped it actually sell more than it did because of the backlash of TK not telling us about it. Still they aren’t ashamed to market meruru plus so that’s a start.

  • Zeonsilt

I finished Platinum trophy in Rorona not so long ago, but, well,i i’m ready for a second run!
p.s.even if it for new characters design alone.

  • Aldorr

So then the only question remains (and the rhetorical one that is) – localization….

    • Slayven19

When don’t we get these games? KT are even bringing out the vita titles.

      • Aldorr

We didn’t get them AT ALL untill Atelier Iris…. =

        • BizarreJelly

Well we get them all now so it’s all good!

I found Rorona to be a bit on the unplayable side so this is a welcome remake.

  • refrain
  • Altin

They really can’t let go of Kishida Mel, hm? I can’t blame them though, Mel draws some of the best legs I have seen thus far.

    • Anime10121

Kishida has some of the most beautiful flowy art work I’ve ever seen. I bought the Atelier Arland Art books and MY GOSH! Love the art SO MUCH!

    • Slayven19

Yeah them are some nice legs that are drawn by kishida mel.

  • Kai2591

Wonder if this new one will get localized?
I just hope they keep the Japanese voices intact >_<

    • TheExile285

Totori Plus & Meruru Plus got localized so I think this one will too.

      • Mr_SP

Though, technically, the vast majority was already translated. I’m not entirely sure any of the new stuff had any dialogue, so it would have been a straight copy from the PS3 version.

New Atelier Rorona… Well, it depends what gets changed.

        • Kai2591

          Yeah good point.

  • Shizumasa

I started playing it a few years back and never finished it. Now I want to finish it.

  • ChiffonCake

Hmm… might be just me, but I’m still not feeling Gust’s 3D models… I don’t know why, but it feels like there’s something off with them.

Still, it’s great that they’re rereleasing this one too. It was expected, considering Totori/Meruru Plus.

    • Nah, the game needed a re-release – a remake – after the original Totori and Meruru were made.

  • Anime10121

I may need to finally go back and try and get Tortori and Meruru now. Took a while, but I started having fun with Ayesha mid game, so maybe its time for me to give the Arland series another shot!

I’ve heard Meruru and (especially) Totori were VAST improvements, but Rarona sucked HARD to me. Loved the art, but the game was! I’m hoping that my opinion of Arland will change!

    • Haven’t even touched my Meruru, yet. But I can say from the little I’ve played of Totori the was an improvement and felt fun to play – finishing assignments were made easier.

I still need to pick-up a copy Ayesha (even if it is EN dub only).

      • Anime10121

I keep hearing that, and I keep saying I’ma pick it up, I just wish I could catch them for about 20 bones a piece. I cant see my self spending more than 30 on them, especially with all the NEW stuff coming, next gen consoles and all.

Ayesha’s pretty good too, its a little more story/plot focused than Arland series games were (so I’ve been told, I’ve only played Rarona), wish it’s world/lore were expanded upon a little more, but ah well. The dub issue never really bothered me because if I can, I prefer dubs vs subs anyway, just because its easier to play in a language I understand.

        • I know what you mean. I’m waiting for HD Mk2 and Ayesha to drop in price a bit more. Too many awesome things, dude! Taxes don’t help. :(

That’s good to hear. I can’t wait to pick up Ayesha one of these days.

Same. I have no problem with dubs either. Especially Dynasty Warrior-esque or fast-paced titles where native or fluent language is a must.

          • Anime10121

Look forward to Mk2 as its good fun :D While I can say I liked Ayesha well enough, I LOVED MK2 and Victory, so yeah :P

Damn Amazon for opening a warehouse in TN, thusly making them start to charge sales tax starting next year :(

          • Noted. I enjoyed Victory (still need to get my True Ending). :D

That sucks. In the UK, fortunately, taxes are already included in the the overall cost of the product; when I go to Amazon and see how much the game cost and what the VAT (Value Added Tax) is, I could be getting so many more games. :(

  • Aristides

Most awesome news all week :P

  • artemisthemp

How long to Atelier Rorona Plus travles to EU/US and will both PS3 and Vita version travel?

    • TheExile285

Don’t know about when but both Totori Plus and Meruru Plus were localized so I’d expect Temco to bring both version.

      No cross buy though.

      • artemisthemp

I have no issue with paying 2 times for Atelier Rorona as long as both get Retail Release and that don’t get a shit.

  • Slayven19

YaY! This is what I was waiting on because this is the one that really needed the face lift.

  • I can’t wait! Since we’re getting Meruru Plus, I’d hope a full remake of Rorona is enough to convince Tecmo Koei to bring this over, too.

I wonder how long the game’s been extended? As well as what new characters?

  • sweet i was hoping theyd do this since they rereleased totori and meruru on vita

  • Guest

huh? wait a minute how is cross save going to work if the vita version comes with new items? Are they going to patch in the new items into the ps3 version or something?

  • MGD

So what about the people who bought the original game for the PS3? Do they have to buy it AGAIN? They really ought to include some sort of upgrade DLC to the original game. but I doubt this will happen knowing the Japanese audience, who will happily buy several hard copies of the same game for collections’ sake.

  • Demeanor

Yes! Yes! Awesome! ALL of my hard-earned monies!!! Being the first child of the series on the ps3 Rorona, although a beautiful game, suffers a bit on quite a few areas compared to the beauty of Totori and especially Meruru (I consider Ayesha a whole different chapter, it’s really quite different).
Absolute day 1 and getting whatever CE they throw at me! I just hope TK learns from Ayesha’s mistakes and gives us a good LE/CE and THAT, you don’t need me to say it, really XD

  • Learii

aw too bad I just delete my data

  • Akira Takeshima

Quick stupid question. Do these games need to be played in order? Or can you just jump in and enjoy? Also, If just jumping in is cool, recommendations for which is coolest.

    • It’s best to but doesn’t need to be – just miss out on some of the humour, etc referencing to the predecessors. Avoid Rorona, unless you plan to play them in order because once you play either Totori or Meruru you won’t want to go back Rorona. Most people really enjoyed Meruru.

Note: I’ve only completed (a single playthrough of) Rorona. And only played a bit of Totori. Hopefully someone who has completed all can give you a better answer.

  • Ryumoau

i already beat this game, so unless the re-release is priced at $14.99 i’ll pass. The Vita version of Totori didn’t add any new to justify buying it again and i feel the same about the upcoming Meruru Plus game.

    • Did you even read the article? New content, new battle characters, updated game graphics, etc. The game seems worth paying the full price. Plus, those who missed out on the original will get a better experience than they would’ve from the original. I will gladly pick this up when it comes over.

The ports of Totori and Meruru are just like the Disgaea ones on the Vita, too – all the DLC plus some extra costumes, iirc.

    • Slayven19

Read man read, this game is a remake.

  • Guest

I’m french, and I hope they’ll keep the french translation they already made and translate new events and dialogue instead of ruining the work previous translators made and giving both US and Europeans players only the english translation.
It’s not that I don’t like playing games in english, I’m used to it and I don’t have any problem with that, but it’s always better playing in your native langage.
Anyway, english or not, this is a welcomed remake, but I bought Atelier Rorona last month haha… No matter what, I’ll buy it day one if this is getting localized, and THIS MUST BE. I believe in Tecmo Koei. Look, we’re getting Toukiden on PSVita. In a logical order, we should be getting Atelier Rorona which has already 80% (I don’t know if there will be TONS of news event, this is just guessing) of the texts translated.
I’m impressed the game will be released in november in Japan, I’m praying for a 2014 summer release.
I’m also waiting for Atelier Escha & Logy, I fell in love with the 3D models at first sight.

I’m really glad the Atelier series made it to the west, it’s the kind of series which has his own charm despite of having the same budget as AAA games.
