Capcom Introduces Monster Hunter 4’s Version Of The A-Team

By Sato . August 11, 2013 . 6:05pm

While you won’t be seeing Mr. T going around hunting Goa Magara anytime soon, Capcom have introduced a group of four elite Hunters who are more than capable of doing so themselves. They were briefly shown in Monster Hunter 4’s latest trailer, and according to the latest website update, it seems like they’ll be playing a big role in the game’s story.

The Lead Hunters are a group of Hunters who take on special requests from guilds that aren’t given to your average Hunters. In addition to being great Hunters, they consist of members with specialized knowledge who excel at specific techniques. They often travel around the world to accomplish various missions.

The leader of the group is a Dual Blade-wielding young man. While he may still be young, he prides himself in what he does, while remaining strict on himself. He doesn’t speak much, but when he does, they’re often blunt words, making him slightly difficult to approach. He also doesn’t really get along with others due to the said fact.

The Lead Hunter’s gunner is an intellectual, cool-headed lady. She understands the leader’s personality very well and often acts as his mediator when required. She has a keen sense of judgment, and also helps out the group by assisting the leader and planning out strategies.

The lancer is the most experienced veteran Hunter of the group. He’s a noble character who is trusted by the guild and other groups. He is mentally and physically talented, and is very well respected by all the Hunters around him, even the party leader. He’s also an old friend with the main caravan leader and others of the group.

The group’s rookie is a friendly, cheerful, and carefree character who has the ability to calm others around him with his outgoing personality. He excels at various abilities, and can even handle any weapon or item at any given opportunity, making him quite the versatile Hunter.

Thanks to these abilities, he’s been selected to join the group, regardless of his inexperience. His favorite pastime is shopping.

One of the traveling caravan members who’ll be joining you on your adventure is the Wyvernian Wholesale Dealer, who has many connections and will be supporting you by providing items.

You can check out various items the dealer has gathered during the day, which can be exchanged for Caravan Points. These items will change after every quest. He also takes requests from villagers who want certain items. By fulfilling these requests, you can gain new business partners and facility expansions.

Additionally, he has an item increase option, that allows you to increase the amount of certain items you’re holding. This feature will especially be useful for stocking up on Herbs and Blue Mushrooms that are used to make potions. He will also trade materials for other materials the Hunter has in stock.

The Felyne chef will be returning as a traveling caravan member in Monster Hunter 4, too. The chef system will have the same system from Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, where you can pick two main ingredients for a combination of various status effects. If you’re lucky, you’ll be granted additional skills that will help out on your quest.

Monster Hunter 4 is slated for release on September 14 for Nintendo 3DS.

“it seems like they’ll be playing a big role in the game’s story.”
    The time has finally come;

    Monster Hunter with story.

Looking forward to see how Capcom delivers with this cut scene approach to telling the story. Although it didn’t had as much content-wise, I loved MH Tri’s village and its story told through NPC dialog.

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

These arent just any ol’ ordinary cutscene….

      They’re in 3D.

Now lets see if they implement em well ( I think a dynamic hybrid of NPC interaction and cut scenes would be more effective)

  • Sardorim

Monster Hunter is making great strides in the story department. I approve just as long as the gameplay remains the same or is an improved version of what everyone desires out of a Monster Hunter game.

  • Mavalex

The leader doesnt exactly look that young, just sayin’……

I’m already betting when final boss (well….final boss by MH standards anyway) It’ll be like “Oh man even we can’t take that crap down” then you step in and take it down and then they’ll be like “Oh snap that guy just did that. He/she’s cool to us now”

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

The Leader looks like Legolas/Geralt(The Witcher)

  • As time goes on, I really hope this game gets localized.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

Monster hunter with a story?! I have something to fight for!

    • Mavalex

Pfft, you always had something to fight for.
      That one drop :P

      • Joshua Myers

    • J_Joestar

      sorry couldn’t help it…

MH with a story? Now i’m interested in this franchise

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Story isnt always what its cracked up to be XD

    • SlickRoach

Now? So you’ve deliberately been missing out on MH?

I tried to play freedom unite but here where I live no one know what MH is. and since the game “didn’t had a story” I coudn’t get any reasons to play the game.

but I like the songs, game mechanics and monsters.

        • ShawnOtakuSomething

          same here

  • LDM

“In 1XXX, a crack commando of Monster Hunters were sent to prison for a crime they didn’t commit. These men promptly escape from security stockade to the Barubaré underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as Hunters of Fortune. If you have a problem, if no one helps, and if you can find them. Maybe you can hire the A-Team.”

    Can’t resist.

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

      A team?

      So they all do heroin?

      • Mildra

If they did they’d show up in Soul Sacrifice

    • Fitzkrieg

I’d call ’em the G-Team, personally.

    • XiaomuArisu

Now I have the A-Team theme stuck in my Head

    • J_Joestar

I just love it when a hunting plan comes together

  • Pockystix

hmm, seems like the rookie is wielding something similar to a Lagiacrus SnS. . . thankfully there is no underwater combat in this game~

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Underwater combat is eh the first time around not so difficult.

      • Pockystix

        still hoping for Brachydios

    • Dexward

Maybe so, but seeing as he’s a rookie only wearing a Hunter’s Armor, it’s safe to assume that his SnS is Velocidrome’s. Heck, you can see Velocidrome’s black stripes on his sword.

    • Ruins72

that’s velocidrome’s SnS. Looks the same in FU i think. gotta go back and check.

  • hmm a story in MH, not sure how to feel about it, well let’s see how it plays out

    • J_Joestar

well I’m sure there is still a segregation between the village/solo campaign and port/multiplayer mode.
It would definitely make the solo portion more interesting while the multiplayer part can retain the more classic MH style.

      • most likely, i dont see it carrying over to the multi part, but im hoping we can also opt not to do story mode for single player, be nice to have an option

        • J_Joestar

At most, you might be forced to if they add something like Ceadeus who is an Village-only boss, but if you’ve managed to do most of the multi already then village should be a breeze to get through.

          • yeah as long as its not a mess though i wouldnt mind it

  • Ferofax

Imagine the RAGE of all the hunters WHO JUST WANNA GET BOOSTED to G-rank within their first day of playing. Imagine all the seething anger this would incur if they can’t skip it.

    • J_Joestar

your assuming the game will even have a G-Rank.
Anyways, there is online multiplayer mode for boosting ranks if they need it.

      • Ferofax

And why would they take out G-rank? It’s the creme de la creme of the game, that’s nuts even thinking about taking it out. And who’s to tell if they decide to hide online until after low rank or something like that?

        • J_Joestar

past precedent? multiplayer is typically available from the start in older games, and the first game of each
          “generation” don’t have G-Rank.
Sure they are making some big changes like the new terrain system and expanded story, but i doubt they will change some of the core options by too much.

  • konsama

They’re obviously my Kokoto, Pokke, Yukumo and Moga hunters. kekeke xP

  • shuratan

Story in my Monster Hunter? What madness is this?

Jokes aside, this is making it very hard for me to resist getting a 3DS.

  • Vash bane

we all knew it was going the story route this time but im curious will the story be about the monsters resurrecting, or will be about the new monster(that probably has something to do with the spreading of that black stuff)?

  • Just want some Monster Crack with or with out story! Give me new monsters to kill!

  • ShadowDivz

“it seems like they’ll be playing a big role in the game’s story.
Oh siliconera, your what the spaniards call el terrible.

  • Guest

Call it a hunch, but I can’t help but feel they’re goin’ to lose sight of why we play Monster Hunter, somewhere in the mix.

  • Flynn Scifo

  • Zonron

so what? these guys going to steal my snacks too!?
