HELL YES Chen Gong! That dude is so cool I was surprised he didn’t get into the main cast any earlier, hopefully that’ll flesh out the “Others” story a bit~

  • Milla

    its also for vita….

    • leingod

Really? How do you know? I loved DW NEXT.

      • Milla

        gematsu.

    • TheExile285

      Hopefully it gets localized…

    • Fox

According to whom? I’d love a Vita musou game with 8′s gameplay.

      • sherimae1324

        gematsu, and gamenyarth japan
        now what do u say?

  • Strid

This is why I no longer buy Dynasty Warriors games until either A: it bears the “Empires” branding or B: the next numbered one is out.

    • leingod

So you buy almost every game, then? Because most of the time it’s a numbered game followed by Empires.

      • Strid

The use of the word “next”, in scenario B, is pretty key.

    • Alexander Marquis Starkey

But…you miss out on the first game. The XL games never have any of the first games content.

      • Strid

I don’t miss a thing. Empires has everything plus some and if no Empires, then I finally go back and pick up both the original game and the XL expansion for, at most, the cost of a single game.

        • Alexander Marquis Starkey

Empires is usually standalone, and doesn’t have any story. If you cared about the story and characters, you’d buy the other titles.

          • Strid

I’ve already covered that, and hurt a lot of butts in the process, above with Fox. I don’t game for story.

You see, I used to buy all of them and then it dawned on me after playing 5 Empires that I was not having near as much fun with the non Empire versions of DW anymore, having had tasted Empires, so it just makes sense to wait for what I find to be the definitive DW experience.

    • Sardorim

But you miss out on the story mode! What if for Jin is simply hilarious!

      • Strid

I don’t game for story, ever.

        • Fox

          Boo!

          • Strid

If a game has a good story, that’s a huge plus, but it hardly justifies the purchase of a video game for me.

          • Fox

Right, but look at your reaction. You’re saying you’d rather buy a game with good gameplay and terrible story than a game with good gameplay and good story?

            That is stupid.

          • Strid

No, what’s “stupid”, is thinking that the gameplay of Devil May Cry 3 and Bayonetta is the same because both have good gameplay.

          • Rad Phil

Bayonetta is a more simplistic version of DMC3.

          • Strid

You should give Infinite Climax a whirl.

        • Rad Phil

“I don’t game for story, ever.”

You are doing yourself a HUGE disservice then.

          • Strid

Not at all, but that’s certainly your opinion. I’ll never buy a bad/decent game because it has an “amazing story” and if a game has a story that is worth experiencing as well as good gameplay, I’ll more than likely play it.

I’m not anti-story or anything, but I game to game – that is, to play, and if I’m looking for a story, specifically, I head to the bookstore.

  • Sardorim

Chen Gong and Zhu Ran?! Sweet!

Guess they’re saving the likes of Lu Kang, Cheng Pu, and Xu Sheng for DW9 I hope!

  • Warboss Aohd

i’m amazed that one Yellow Turban who joined Shu hasn’t been made playable yet.

    also, who is Zhu Ran?

    • Ixbran

Zhu Ran is always the main go-to guy for Lu Xuns fire attacks. Lu Xun plans them, Zhu Ran is the one who executes them. the two will likely be portrayed as friends.

  • Slayven19

Of course there’s one, this is the one I’ve been waiting on even though I did buy DW8 to support them.

  • Solomon_Kano

Also on Vita, which is nice since Next reminded me how much I like DW on the go.

    • leingod

Next is pretty good. Aside from some minor gimmicky stuff and troop pop-up, it’s the best portable Dynasty Warriors ever.

      • Solomon_Kano

Yea, definitely beat out the PSP ones. Well, I can’t speak on Strikeforce, but it beat out V1 and V2.

        • leingod

Well I didn’t like Strikeforce at all, but that’s just me.

          • Ixbran

            the PS3 version was better.

i’d have to say the best hand held warriors games would be the Warriors Orochi series, the first one on the PSP introduced the first full maps. in past games maps had to be cut up into sections. WO2 for the PSP was able to do that, and keep the games voice acting from the original PS2 version.

  • eilegz

and koei did it again not that i didnt expect them in the first place im glad that i didnt buy DW8

    • Fox

You should buy 8 and 8E. Skip the XL game. Skip every XL game. I do not understand why anyone ever buys the XL games.

      • leingod

Which are the features of the XL games?

        • Ixbran

additional characters, new game play modes, enhancements to previous game features, re-balancing to characters, changes to move sets.

also DW8XL will feature story modes for Others on par with the Wei, Wu, Shu, and Jin story modes in DW8. A long story mode with branching what-if paths. As well as new what-if paths for the story mode from DW8.

          • leingod

Sounds good to me….I don’t get why one should avoid them, then :/

          • Ixbran

some people are just overly paranoid, thinking that Koei does this for a quick buck. But eh, what are you to do with people like that?

But anyway they are introducing two new characters, both with original move sets. The magazine article hints at more being announced at a later date.

          • Warboss Aohd

Great King Meng Huo Story Mode!?

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

    That was fast

    • Ixbran

not really, DW8 has been out for almost a year already, XL Games usually come out half a year after the first games initial release

      this game is WAY behind.

  • Fox

    Would rather see Empires.

Or both as DLC for 8. God knows why Koei isn’t doing that, this whole idea of doing tiny expansions as standalone games should have ended with the PS2 era.

    • Kamakuma

I agree I love when I see a Empires game come out. Although not sure if I should buy XL… I mean I’m still playing 8 and 7E O~~O

  • YoshEE

    Chen Gong!!! Finally :D

  • Ixbran

    Scans, if y’all are interested.

Chen Gong: War Scroll – Normal attacks are weak, but charge attacks can summon soldiers of of nowhere and perform coordinated attacks on behalf of the weapon user.
    Zhu Ran: Blaze Bow

    • Ixbran

      more scans

  • Shizumasa

Then we can expect a DW8 Empires version.

  • NightzeroAX

About time. This series needs more “Other” Characters.
