Victor Belmont From Unreleased Dreamcast Castlevania Is In Lords Of Shadow 2

By Spencer . August 21, 2013 . 3:24am

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, the final game in the Lords of Shadow series, will be available in North America on February 25. Konami will release the game in Europe on February 27.

The game continues the story of Gabriel Belmont, better known now as Dracula. The Belmont hunting Dracula is a neat surprise for fans. Victor Belmont has technically never been in a Castlevania game because he was the protagonist in Castlevania Resurrection, which Konami canceled. So, when he says he’s the last surviving Belmont that’s true as well.

While the trailer from Gamescom mostly shows the castle, most of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 takes place in the city. "The game takes place mostly in the city. We only showed mostly castle stuff because we’re not ready to show the city. The game takes place in one night, it’s a night when Satan comes back to the Earth. A night of chaos, a night of the apocalypse," Cox said to Siliconera.

  • Ooh Bee

For some reason I expected Sonia but then I remembered the Lords of Shadow series is a huge sausagefest.

    • landlock

Yep, I was expected Sonia as well. :(

    • leingod

Just what I was gonna say. For some reason they took out Sonia of the Castlevania canon, but I liked her story.

      • Time Sage

Well there is the whole implicacation that she hooks up with Alucard and thus all belmonts are thus fighting their grandfather to the umpteemth time.

        • leingod

and that’s pretty cool if you ask me :)

    • NintendoPSX

I’m pretty sure she was in Mirror of Fate.

      • kylehyde

Really? I don’t remember even a mention about her on the game. On the other hand, Sypha Belnades was there

        • NintendoPSX

My bad, that’s who I was thinking of. Woopsies.

    • Cloud_ST

Can’t really blame LoS there since the original Castlevania canon made Sonia’s game non-canon years ago.

      • Bec66

Maybe this game could give her a chance to shine (Although I also kind of wanted to see Richter and Maria at some point.)

    • Ethan_Twain

To be fair, so is the original cannon.

    • Arcana Wiz

yep i expected her a well, and they just moved her from the canon for almost no reason, so i just ignore it and in my heart her history is in the canon.

      • Dexward

        No reason, you say?

“Sonia Belmont’s existence, and the entire happenings of Castlevania Legends, were removed from the official timeline of Castlevania in November, 2005 because they conflicted with the plot line of the main games. Koji Igarashi didn’t like the idea of having a female protagonist in the respective time period that Castlevania Legends takes place in, and that it didn’t quite fit with the motifs of a vampire story. He stated that “Legends remains something of an embarrassment for the series. If only that development team had the guidance of the original team of the series”. Now, Sonia’s exploits are considered taking place in an alternate timeline, separated from the current Castlevania canon.”

    • ScionicSpectre

Sypha, Claudia, Laura, Carmilla, Baba Yaga, Marie, Medusa, the Succubus, Lady of the Crypt. Yeah, you’re right, that’s maybe 15 percent overall. It’s easy to forget just how many characters there are in the first game alone.

Then again, how many women are in the older installments? Aside from witches, sirens, and succubi, there were only a few female Belmonts or companions as it is.

      • Göran Isacson

Thing is that even in the older games, characters like Sypha actually got to fight for themselves and be heroes. Women in this new franchise seem to mostly just exist to die and be tragic, when they actually have a ROLE to play and aren’t just one-off villains.

  • AaqibRawat

    it takes place where !?
    a city !? a city ?!
its called catslevania gahhhhh have at you.

wonder if victor will have the vampire killer?
its cox so he might have a gun or something :p

has any one seen gameplay of those flaming double chains gabriel was rocking in the trailer?

  • Jake_Indiman

The fact that Sir Patrick Stewart, and Robert Carlyle are still voicing their respective characters, has pretty much sealed the phrase “SOLD!” to me.

  • hmm a castlevania game that takes place in a city, can’t lie that has me a bit worried but Victor Belmont? nice never thought id hear that name again

  • Julian Hardaway
  • Sergio Briceño

“I’m Victor Belmont. I’m the last of my lustrous bloodline!”

And by the looks of it, somewhere along the timeline the Belmont blood got mixed with the Miles blood. Since he looks exactly like a character out of Assassins Creed. :p Looking forward to Desmond recalling some ancient memories of a past life of being a vampire assassin in the next game.

  • Ethan_Twain

Aw man, that was just the E3 trailer with 10 additional seconds of footage at the end. Bummer!

    • ScionicSpectre

Yeah, although knowing the release date I’m glad they’re not revealing too much dialogue or events later in the game. We might get a little extra something at Tokyo Game Show, besides.

    • Solomon_Kano

Not quite a new Belmont, eh? :P

      • Ethan_Twain

Not quite an old one either. :P

By which I mean you were right that they took the name of a previously existing character from the franchise (is he cannon? I know they put out a timeline once, was their cancelled dreamcast game on there? Surely not).

But I was right that their Belmont is 100% new and unique, because there’s no existing template for Victor.

And when both people are right then everyone can be happy. Or I am at least. Dunno about you.

        • Djip Minderman

Actually there was quite a bit of concept art released, so I wouldn’t say there is NO template.

          • Solomon_Kano

Guess the goatee was the only thing worth keeping lol.

          • Djip Minderman

Can’t Imagine why they didn’t make the new guy look like Tim Curry though.

          • Solomon_Kano

If only he could’ve been voiced by Curry, at least lol.

        • Solomon_Kano

Well, got nothing to be mad for, so it works out for the both us haha.

  • NightzeroAX

I still wanna play that game on Dreamcast.

    • Djip Minderman

Yup, it would have been pretty sweet to play an old skool style castlevania with 3D graphics. Alas. Like as not we’ll never get one now.

  • Solomon_Kano

Was gonna be disappointed that this was the prior trailer with a release date added on, but that Victor reveal kinda made it worth it. When they said there’d be another that isn’t Alucard, of all possible Belmonts, I certainly wouldn’t have expected them to resurrect the guy who never got his game put out.

Between this and Dark Souls II, early 2014 is really gonna be something.

  • Göran Isacson

Kinda neat idea- make what I presume to be the second most important Belmont in the plotline be someone who never got the chance to be in the original canon. It certainly seems to follow Coxs ambition to make this franchise distinct from older Castlevanias but still part of it. Now I just hope there will be at least one female character who doesn’t exist just to be a one-off boss or a tragic victim…

  • Vash bane

this is a nice surprise lol because I really don’t know all the belmonts but the famous ones(and a few minor ones)

  • JNT

I hope they polished the combat in this game, it was way too repetitive and the enemy AI only came in2 flavors 1)frontal attack 2)shockwave, if they got rid of these small problems, then it might be a great game.

  • artemisthemp

I really wish Konami would release another Castlevania with female lead
