Retro Steampunk Shoot ’em Up Heading To 3DS

By Spencer . August 21, 2013 . 12:00am

Who knew the Nintendo 3DS would be a home for obscure retro shoot ’em ups? Nintendo got Summer Carnival ’92 RECCA and the Japan-only game will be released in North America too. Famitsu reports Steel Empire, a steampunk style shoot ’em up for the Genesis, will be re-released as a 3DS download.

It’s unclear if Steel Empire is a straight port of the Genesis version or based on the Game Boy Advance re-release from Elminage developer Starfish. Steel Empire will be released as a downloadable 3DS game.

Steel Empire? Wow, I couldn’t have imagined it being available on the 3DS!

Though I do already have the GBA cart. It is cool and features an interesting steam-punk universe, but the screen feels a bit too small for the action sometimes, and a full run is a bit long, as the producer wanted a cinematic feel or something like that. There is an interesting interview about this game here :

I don’t think I would double-dip for the GBA version or purchase the Mega Drive version, but it is great to see more shoot’em ups on the 3DS. May Chain Blaster be available soon as well. Same for Recca in NA. (I bought it already on my PAL 3DS, it is a great and insane game!)

        My pleasure. ^.^

The website hosts a lot of other shoot’em up related interviews by the way, and a few other interviews covering other types of games such as Sayonara Umihara Kawase or Ralph no Daibouken.
