5pb’s popular visual novel Steins;Gate has already been adapted into an anime and a movie, but next, a stage show adaptation is coming to Tokyo on October 12.

016

Titled Living ADV: Steins;Gate, there will be seven shows held until October 20 at Tokyo’s Zepp Diver City. The first six shows will each have a story that branches off into a different route, five of which are centered around one of the heroines. The following six shows will each cover a route voted on by subscribers of D-Mail, the production’s official e-mail newsletter. The last show’s route will be voted during the actual show by audience members via cell phone. The evening show on October 12 and 16 will also feature a musical performance by Itou Kanako and Ayane, respectively.

damn why not original voice actors…

    • Sergio Briceño

      Cuz, resemblance and performance.

      • http://visualnovels.ge/ James Darkly

I have seen performance by original seiyus like for School Rumble.
Well this kind of show is really cool and I like it, but it’s little bit awkward when you see/hear characters with totally different voice, while they are trying to mimic original actors.

        • UkiyaSeed

That’s the same problem I have with the Bleach musicals, they look the part, but they don’t sound the part. Oh well.

        • Sergio Briceño

It’s a different story for every series actually. Sometimes the orginal material (be it game or anime) has a different voice actors than the adaptation, and then comes the drama CDs which often has new voice actors. It’s a matter of finding balance between loyalty to the original and liking of the more commercial adaptation.

Some series like Steins Gate are the exception as they use the same cast for all their media. But as far as musicals are concerned, since they require real people, acting skills and physical resemblance always come before voice likeness. It’s a sad thing, but it’s understandable.

Unless that Rukako is male, I consider this not true to the source material.

    • Kelohmello

      To be fair, (spoiler)

      • miju

(…yes I know. But it’s more amusing the other way.)

  • Freud_Hater

…Am I the only one who finds it weird that the girl on the far right has a pretty stoic expression and yet her actress has the biggest smile ever?

    • ninjabart122

To be fair, Suzuha is a Genki Girl type character for the most part.

    • DyLaN

She actually doing a cat smile if you look closely at her art.

      Tht and wht ninja said.

  • vileBrenman

Whoa that song in the trailer was awesome! Sounded like a remix of the anime opening! Anyone know exactly what song is being used though?

2D character designs really just do not translate to quality real life looks.

    • ninjabart122

Don’t know about you, but the Phoenix Wright Movie had some pretty well done character designs for the actors.

I commend them for that, plus, the movie was pretty enjoyable.

      • Kelohmello

I agree actually, Phoenix Wright made it look as good as it could possibly be. I don’t really think that means it translates well though, just that they did the best job possible of adapting it.

At least it’s not like the Lion King Broadway play where actors play animals?

There has always been stage musicals based on popular anime though, like Saint Seiya, Hunter x Hunter, or Prince of Tennis, they’re more about presenting the story and music/songs. Sometimes they use the VAs, other times they use different actors.

Actually both the recent Rurouni Kenshin & Ace Attorney live action movies were quite well done, as the original design were relatively realistic. I’m looking forward to the 2nd RK movie.

Other than the time traveling concept, it’s actually not that far fetched to pull off a live action Steins;Gate.
