Which Character to Choose First in SaGa: Emerald Beyond

SaGa: Emerald Beyond continues the series tradition of allowing players to play as multiple different protagonists in this latest game for mobile, console, and PC. With six different protagonists and five different storylines, it can be confusing trying to figure out who to pick first. Thankfully, here is our pick for the first character you should play in SaGa Emerald Beyond.

Best Characters to Play First in SaGa Emerald Beyond: Ameya

As mentioned, players have the option between five main storylines (one of which has two protagonists) when they boot up the game for the first time. The first character we recommend is Ameya. She is the magical girl in the group, and she lives in a Japanese-style city not too different from the real deal.

This familiarity alone makes her storyline a bit easier to get into than a full planet of vampires. In addition, her obsession with cats and the cutesy story about her recovering her powers is even more lighthearted than the already goofy tales elsewhere. Her path is also one of the most linear and easier ones, so it eases the player into the style of this game better than the others.

Bonnie and Formina

If you aren’t in the mood for magical girls and witches, there is another character I recommend you pick first in SaGa Emerald Beyond. Well, characters in this case. I suggest the dual buddy cop drama of Bonnie and Formina. This duo works together to investigate an assassination attempt and save the Capitol City on their planet.

This duo’s path has the right mix of drama, comedy, and action. It makes it one of the more broadly appealing storylines with pretty solid pacing. It is one of my favorites in the game, so I think those unfamiliar with this game or series might be better off checking out one like this. Plus, the friendship between Bonnie and Formina helps to carry this story a bit better than some of the others.

SaGa: Emerald Beyond is available now for Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC.
