I thought Layton Brothers looked nothing like professor Layton, but this one takes the cake. I eventually expect Level 5 to just put the name Layton on everything they develop.

    Shooter? “Sergeant Layton”
    MMO? “World of Layton”
Soccer? “Layton’s Eleven” (which also doubles as a heist game)

    • Sergeant Layton would be interesting…

*Points gun at enemy and is ready to fire*
“Wait, this reminds me of a puzzle.”

Solving a puzzle before each shot… dang,

    • James Enk

“which also doubles as a heist game)” good one:)

Level 5 just created a whole new genre.

  • idrawrobots

Which version will sell the best?

    • Sango

Hard to say. Games on mobile phones ( especially in Japan) and the 3DS generally sell well. Um… who is that in your icon?

      • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Why would you ask him that?

Its two girls backsides up against each other.

        • idrawrobots

If only my face was in the center of that image.

          • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

            You’d smell very bad

        • Sango

“Its two girls backsides up against each other” exactly why I asked him.

      • Romored

Look at this and you’ll understand… XD

        • Sango

          You’re a lifesaver!

  • noctis_nox

    What is this abomination!?

    • malek86

I have to agree here. Even the short on-stage demonstration looked beyond terrible. Although one hopes that it’s still in the early stages of development.

  • British_Otaku

At the very least, it is on the 3DS as well but I must question them branching off with the genre and proceeding to call it “Layton 7” (even if it may be a placeholder soon to be changed)…

This isn’t Breath of Fire 6 bad, especially as we had a good line up till now and apparently Layton was supposed to end. >_>

Me no like Level-5’s marketing strategy. It’s one of the most condescent strategies in recent memory.

Does it even star Layton any more, or are they just slapping the name on it to guarantee sales? An RPG with Layton styled puzzles would be interesting, I suppose, but that gentleman and his hat really helped add to the experience.

And wait, by RPG, does that mean there’s combat and the like?

Hmm, in my opinion they shouldn’t dillute Layton brand like this, sales are declining every installment, better wait some time and make something new and exciting to reinvigorate it.

    I dunno… Professor Triton maybe?

  • Zero_Destiny

Honestly, I think I rather of seen the iOS and Android market get more Layton Brothers games and the main franchise stick to the 3DS.

I rather liked Layton Bros myself so it would be nice to see more of it. As for this new Layton, I dunno what to really say. These few screen shots look kinda weird and it’s about “controlling various characters” so yeah, I’m not really sure where this is going. I guess I’ll try to stay optimistic.

An RPG Layton sounds interesting, at least it will come out on the 3ds as well. Though it would be nicer that the main series title is on a console while spin offs like Layton brothers can go on phones.
