Nippon Ichi Aims To Have A Balance Of Sequels And New Games, Still Focusing On PS3

By Spencer . August 27, 2013 . 12:40am

imageDengeki PlayStation has an interview with Nippon Ichi Software who said retailers reordered The Witch and the Hundred Knight, one of the company’s new IPs. The publisher wants to grow this into a series if there is a positive response.

Moving forward, Nippon Ichi wants to have a balance between developing new series, like The Witch and the Hundred Knight or The Guided Fate Paradox, and sequels. PlayStation 3 is still their core platform, but the company plans to mix in Vita and PlayStation 4 releases. Since Nippon Ichi has many titles that sell well overseas, they will take which hardware overseas gamers play on into consideration too.

  • Nice to hear they’re thinking about Western gamers. Really looking forward to Witch! And to Disgaea 4 Vita (and maybe Criminal Girls) getting a localization greenlight.

    • Pdugna

My vita is definitely ready to play disgaea 4 with all the dlc lol

  • Duc PC-QB

    Soul Nomad 2 please .

    • AkuLord3

Its nice to see others wanting a sequel to Soul Nomad…it tickles my heart <3

    • Arcana Wiz

      and with Female revya please!
in all games that gig and revya appears, she is a she…. and i’m kinda fond of her now.

      • Calintz YT

        God, you are creepy.

    • Keko

And a Soul Nomad 1 digital release, please.

  • SlickRoach

Nice. I’m curious for what Vita releases they’re thinking of, since I want to get the most out of my Vita and NIS games are pretty lengthy. Never got to play Makai Kingdom or Soul Nomad so at minimum I hope they can at least make those PS2 classics on PSN at least.

  • Sentsuizan_93

A possible series you say? Interesting. I’ll be looking forward to hearing about possible new IPs from NIS.

  • sherimae1324

i really love NIS for supporting PS platforms ^_^

but why they do rarely develop games for others systems, like 3ds or wii u? disgaea would be nice there too ^_^

    • TheExile285

That’d be like putting professor Layton on Vita or PS3.

If they make so WiiUx3DS games they should make them new IPs IMO.

    • Raharu95

They have tried that in the past, but it fid not went over well for them :/

    • Little reputation built up.
They took over a decade to try it, then weren’t serious. Either ports or mixed quality.

    • Arcana Wiz

their fanbase it’s all in sony system, and they have a very loyal fanbase, so when they tried to sell on ds… the sales and reception weren’t good.

  • TheExile285

PlayStation 3 is still their core platform, but the company plans to mix in Vita and PlayStation 4 releases. ”

That is a bit bothersome but at least they do plan to work with PS4 and Vita.

    • Landale

No real point in immediately jumping ship for the new system. I don’t really think their games are system sellers on any real notable scale, so it’s more understandable to stick to the more widespread system for now.

      • Testsubject909

        larger established install base.

Plus they’re not neglecting the Vita outright nor saying they won’t go for the PS4. So to me it’s all good.

  • deadMastershiro

NIS loves me. I don’t have money for ps4. And still don’t have vita

  • Testsubject909

Nice balance between new IPs and sequels… so….

    ….so… sou… Soul Nomad 2?

    • Arcana Wiz

makai kingdom 2 and la pucelle 2 too!

      • Warboss Aohd

        doesn’t Mastiff own La Pucelle?

    • I still need to get that game, that game looked hyped as shit when I found out about years ago.

      • Warboss Aohd

it is the best of all the NIS games in my opinion.

        • Oh hey Warboss, hadn’t seen you in ages. (:
And yeh it seemed that way, I think because it was far out of the norm for NIS regular stuff at least story wise.

          • Warboss Aohd

not just that, i liked the gameplay an’ da gritty art style.

  • DyLaN

ZX and MGZ in english plz.

Can’t wait for TGFP to come out. The hypest of all NIS game (to me) atm.

  • DesmaX

Glad to hear retailers are restocking Hundred Knight. Must be doing pretty well for them.

And even better to see they aren’t trying to appeal to japanese only

  • z_merquise

I hope they collaborate with Vanillaware again. I would really love a Grimgrimoire sequel. Or perhaps a new Vanillaware game.

  • Presea

Thanks NIS for thinking about us western gamers. :D

  • They should also look to their forums to better gauge their core fan base on where they’d like to see which platforms they’d like to see those titles on. So many NIS titles would be awesome for the Vita.

  • Pockystix

have at it NIS, I’ll be there with my wallet in hand~

  • KuroNathan

Hrm, at the moment I really have no plans for next gen systems. This just reinforces my decision since there’s no games that really pull me to the consoles.

  • Shady Shariest

They are pretty good at the equalization! (imo as always…)

They have two Disgaea’s (DD2 and other one, briefly mentioned as D5)
and more than enough new IP’s and publishing deals to have some manner of diversity on their name…

Without having the inside sight of things, it seems that they have this down purrrfectly :3 (Not singing glory hallelujah, i am a little pissed for never getting DLC’s in local PSN)

  • ZekeFreek

That being said, some of their games really don’t merit sequels.

  • Amine Hsu Nekuchan

When they consider overseas gamers, I hope they conside their fans that buy their games, and not Bro-gamers who are never going to.

    • ZekeFreek

I think they know the difference.

      • Amine Hsu Nekuchan

You would hope that, but ever since Squenix pulled the whole Neir thing I’ve begun dreading whenever Japanese devs say they’ll be considering US audiences.

  • Awesome!

  • Warboss Aohd

    Sequel to Soul Nomad maybe?

hopefully in the same art style as da original, cause Soul Nomad haz alwayz been gritty.

  • Crimson_Cloud

    Sounds good to me.
