Karous: The Beast Of Re: Eden Is Shooting Its Way To 3DS In January 2014

By Spencer . August 29, 2013 . 1:25am

imageBack when Nintendo announced the 3DS, we noticed Karous 3DS, which sounded like a port or a new version of the Dreamcast game. That was two years ago, but Karous 3DS isn’t dead even though Milestone closed after the company’s president was arrested.

A teaser site for Karous: The Beast of Re: Eden popped up listing Klon as the publisher. The page doesn’t have much information, but it says Karous Re: The Beast of Eden is a single player shooter and it’s scheduled for release in January 2014. The game is priced at 6,090 yen ($62), which suggests it will be a retail title.

I remember playing this on my USC on the Wii. I didn’t think it was worth much back then (Chaos Field was the best game in the bunch, and that’s not saying much). Buying it for a standalone price would be even worse. One can only hope this is a new game, rather than an upgraded port.

    Wow, so cool!

After Milestone’s president’s arrest earlier this year, I thought this game was dead, so this is a pleasant surprise to see it come back!
Only problem is, no Milestone shmups came out in PAL territories and the 3DS is well…hum..region-locked…=/

It is interesting to see more and more shoot’em ups on this console though (Steel Empire, Karous 3DS, Recca, Chain Blaster), totally unexpected, just like the 360.

I have a soft spot for Milestone games due Kou Hayashi and Daisuke Nagata. I need something to actually use my 3DS for while I wait for Streets of Rage 3D and Sonic 1 3D anyway.

This game seems decidedly less hardcore when it isn’t releasing on Dreamcast post 2005 (am I remembering that right?). Still, at least this version has a shot at seeing the light of day outside of Japan now that it isn’t on a long dead platform. I’d give it go if it showed up on the eShop.

Karous was indeed released for the Japanese Dreamcast after the console’s commercial lifespan’s end. ^^

If you have a JP/NA or modded Wii, the game is also available on the Milestone Shooting Collection 1 which was released in NA under the name of “Ultimate Shooting Collection”. You also get Chaos Field and Radirgy on the disc.

Milestone Shooting Collection 2, a Japan-only compilation of the 5 Milestone games, includes Karous, but also Chaos Field, Radirgy, Illvelo and Radirgy Noa.
I got MSC 2 when it was available on Play-asia for something like 25€ but it seems out of stock now. =/

I really hope that 3DS will be able to become shump etiopia especially after 360 is slowly phasing out and Cave one of the biggest shump developer have move to smartphone.T_T
