Indie Game Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae Is About A Samurai Schoolgirl Killing Robots

Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae is an action game developed by the indie developer Zenith Blue that made an appearance at Comiket 84. In this PC brawler, you play as a girl named Misa who owns a holy sword and is chasing a former comrade named Suzuka, who posseses a demon blade that she used to kill their teacher.

As Misa, you will use your sword to slice and rip apart waves of enemies on a circular battle field. Your sword gauge will gradually decrease when you fight with your sword and increase when you fight with melee attacks, forcing you to mix it up.

When one or more enemies are blinking red, you can unleash your special attack in which you sheathe your sword and instantly kill every weakened enemy, samurai movie-style. As you kill enemies, you gain skill points that you can use to upgrade your stats and learn new techniques.

Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae is available now for PC for 1,980 yen.

It’s weird. I don’t know how to feel about this. The artwork style looks great, the enemies look stiff, the combat looks fluid, and the environments look plain. Too many mixed feelings.

    • Isn’t that already a standard in generic Japanese brawlers? Still, since it is for PC, many future updates can fix that. If not, then we mod the **** out of it! Ah, how tehnology has advanced so far.

nothing that some mod can’t fix or a update by the developers (that is a pretty common thing in japanese indie games. seriously, they fucking love to make patches and add new content too)

  • Awesome.

  • Kayseur

I tried the demo a few days before C84, and since then, I’ve been waiting eagerly for the devs / circle to put it up online so that overseas customers could buy it digitally… Is it finally available or still no luck ?

Either way, the demo was much fun. Exactly the kind of game I’m looking for to kill some time, when I just want to destroy a lot of monsters but still want some technics and multiple kind of combos so that it doesn’t get repetitive.

  • Damarius Wingfield

    *Tries to contain mix-feelings*:UUURAAAAHHHH!

  • Göran Isacson

Kind of getting (and I hope I spell it right now) Croixleur vibes from it- fights taking place in a single arena rather than actual stages, and then you just fight mooks until you win. Looks decent enough for a low price… though ha ha, is it just me or are some of these moves REEEAAALLLY similar to Vergil’s Yamato attacks from Devil May Cry?

  • Warboss Aohd

… outright PC game? from Japan? dat’s rare. If localized, throwin’ it on Steam would make it sell decently. GOG as well if they planned long term.

    • neocatzon

Japan indie doujin game is not rare at all especially for PC. It’s a thriving market. But, their market usually exclusive in Japan and sold in conventions like Comiket. They don’t usually use steam, gog or anything like that. This game is not an exception. Best way to get them is well, buy them on Comiket or from some Japan product distributors.

      Btw, no Orcish today?

      • Testsubject909

I’d be interested in importing this. It looks fun enough for me and I would quite enjoy seeing what Japanese indies have been up to, outside of the shmups I can find with relative ease or the vastly over-publicized Japanese indies like Cave Story (great game mind you, well worth the hype).

        • neocatzon

Ah, Cave Story. Easily one of the most recommended game everyone should ever play. Beside shmups, freeware made in rpgmaker and wolf engine can be find easily, thanks to Yume Nikki popularity (and many more). Their doujin culture is really enviable.

      • Warboss Aohd

        dat woz orkish

        • neocatzon

My bad, your.. highness? Warboss? Arrgh?

  • ShadowDivz

i wonder what the title transaltes to.

    • mike dickson

who khows but when this gets release i would totally import this

  • Steven Higgins

The description in the title sounds like Sucker Punch

  • I really want to play this. Kind of compelled to actually lol. It just gives off this certain aura that’s got me interested. It’s style reminds me of Onechanbara =^_^=

  • “Schoolgirl killing things”, sounds like the plot of anything I’d make, lol :D

  • Nameless App 1989

This game looks like it has graphics similar to that H-Game developer…

    • ShawnOtakuSomething

    • You don’t mean… THAT… H-Game developer…

I would ask why you know about it; Then again, by now, who doesn’t?

They have a couple of games in the Android market that have no H in them, but are visually enjoyable.

    • TheBlackRabbit

Help confused, who in the world are you talking about?…is it beter if i don’t know? XD

      • EinMugenTenshin

        Isn’t it obvious? We are talking about… “That”… H-Game Developer… :p

        • TheBlackRabbit

          ^.^; i fail.

          • neogeno

Its alright. Thats a good thing! You must fight it! Don’t be consumed by their taint!

But seriously, the game does look pretty solid. The animation transitions between attacks are a little sudden. It reminds me of Senran Kagura.

          • TheBlackRabbit

OK, cool i will…see if there is a demo of this!

    • Sergio Briceño

To be fair, I thought it looked like FFXV. Honestly, I came here for the thumbnail alone, expecting to find some news about the gameplay/story of FFXV.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

Artificial girl 3 engine mod?? *llusion soft*

  • AnimusVox

From the link pic I thought they were the females versions of Noctis and Aeron from ‘Pandora’s Tower’.

  • goldenlander

Nintendo refuses Japanese indie devs. I thought Japanese could make interesting indie games too.

  • leingod

Anything is cooler with schoolgirls and robots :D

  • Arcana Wiz

have no shame to say that i only entered cause the article title, but this looks interesting….

    • well i only entered because of the thumbnail

      • Arcana Wiz

        …. we are shallow?

  • SuBw00FeR

Where do I buy it from? :/

  • heartless141

that green robot, i thought it was Wild Tiger at first glance, and second glance too

  • Valtiel Ikari

interesting… is it weird that the first thing that came to my mind was “Battle Reaper 3”?

  • nice this sounds pretty sweet, love the look of it too

  • Learii

how ppl play action games on pc?

    • Canceris

      Plug an Xbox360 controller.

  • Unlimax

Whoever does the main characters surely loves T.A.T.u. !
Japan are known for their own biggest fanbase for T.A.T.u.

  • brian

I think my face just melted from all that supreme awesome.
I saw this article a couple hours ago and forgot but HOW DID I FORGET ABOUT A SAMURAI SCHOOLGIRL KILLING ROBOTS?
Any chance of this getting localized?

  • Rolling Guy

    Reminds me of Oneechanbara.

  • Herlo Rerelo

    “Available on PC” okay thanks!
*returns after 30 minutes* okay available where O_O ?

  • Go2hell66

been following this game since it was announced can’t wait to get my hands on it

  • Stranger On The Road

Please add a miko outfit as an option. PLEASE

    • Demeanor

Brother, hath thou seen what happens at 1:43? :D

      • Stranger On The Road

Thanks, I stopped the video when it went dark (assumed that it was going to show the release date).

  • ajneez

the play style game reminds me a lot NINJA GAIDEN

  • Demeanor

Eat your guts, Dante (and Vergil)! The girl’s movements are fantastic, dat super-high speed sword slashes! Someone seriously needs to hire these devs and make a Ninja Gaiden-esque game out of this (it’s arena-style atm, if I’m not mistaken…), I’m a big sucker for katana-wielding schoolgirls like AH3’s Kamui.
    C’mon, here’s a nice tdl for you:
    – translate this game and sell it for PC
    – port the indie game to next-gen consoles like the PS4
    – fund the devs to create an high-speed, highly difficult but fair game out of this!
    – make the blondie playable as well

  • Isaac Newton

I saw this on the Comiket Video on Youtube damn this game is so tempting XD

  • XiaomuArisu

    okay….that atually looked good.

  • Rafael Mario Sanchez

I feel dodging will be a lot satisfying. *nosebleeds at sight of pantsu*

  • Thought I was looking at an illusion game

  • Sergio Briceño

Before reading I was kind of hoping that the level design was more than just a circular area. Hopefully there are nice CG videos between the transitions from one arena to the next.

I always wondered why young modern fictional samurai were mostly highschool girls. Also, how they manage their time between training and school.

  • Neppygear

    omfg this looks so epic

  • xXDGFXx

What’s up with most Japanese devs and their obsession with gradient UI designs? They look really… bland…

  • ekibyougami

I’ve played enough of DAT H-GAME DEVELOPER’s games to know where THE PLOT is going…. IYKWIM

  • Zak Ledward

Came in thinking that Onechanbara was getting a sequel or something, the game’s art style really reminds me of the artist from that series.

Looking at the trailer the game looks fun, one of those arena beat ’em ups that frequent indie games, though I wish there was more blood and gore in the game, but I guess that’d be asking too much from a small group. In any case, I guess I’ll pick this game up later, it’d be nice to see a port to consoles. Wouldn’t be so bad as a $15-20 game.

  • Eric Blondebeard

Damn, Daft Punk gets their asses beaten

  • .:Raphællius:.

OMG! This actually looks like it could be a lot of fun!!

  • Crimson_Cloud

Hmm… I think that some decent yuri can come from this.
