Xseed To Publish The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC On PC And PSP

By Ishaan . September 6, 2013 . 7:37am

Following yesterday’s tease, Xseed have announced that they will be publishing The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC (Second Chapter) digitally on the PC and PSP sometime in 2014.

Additionally, the first chapter of the series, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, will be making its way to PC this winter. Xseed originally published the game in English for the PSP in 2011.

While Xseed will be handling publishing duties on Trails in the Sky SC, the game is being translated by Carpe Fulgur, the localization studio behind Recettear.

“We are pleased to finally give the fans what they have been requesting so fervently for over two years,” said Ken Berry, Executive Vice President of Xseed. “There’s been a constant demand ever since we released the original The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, and we are extremely grateful for our partnership with the passionate localizers at Carpe Fulgur to finally make it a reality.”

Trails in the Sky SC begins immediately after the events of the prior game. According to Xseed’s description, “Following the explosive revelations at the very end of Trails in the Sky, Estelle feels adrift and must find her resolve along with friends both old and new, and face down the true architects of the chaos engulfing Liberl—a force far more powerful and insidious than she could ever have imagined.”

  • Randgriz

two down – one to go

    • CirnoLakes

Of Sora no Kiseki, at least.

      • Solomon_Kano

Shhh, shhh! Baby steps, baby steps!

  • Smooosh

    Heck yeah!

  • Oh man, PC too? I approve!

  • anarchy_panty

Well, I’m glad we finally know what the mysterious project 4 is. Kind of wish it was another doujin title, but this is cool too.

  • Sentsuizan_93

Thank you Xseed. For giving me a reason to pick up my PSP again.

    • Crimson_Cloud

No kidding. I hope mine is still working.

  • Victoria [Rokuso3]

This is great! I always wanted to play the first game but didn’t want to in case it never got an english release. Now I can play both!! I don’t know if I’ll play them on PC or PSP, but I will for sure!

  • Chris Yuen

    edit: based XSEED AND CarpeFulgur.

    • Neckbear

Based CarpeFulgur. I think this wouldn’t have happened were it not for them.

      • Pyrotek85

Yeah I’m reading that there is a massive amount of text to translate.

        • Yeah, 3.6 million characters. The average Final Fantasy doesn’t even break 1 million. FC is the smallest game of the whole series, and it was 1.5 million. (Zero, Ao, and Sen, however, are all larger than SC.)

          • Where did you find it being that big? Not that I don’t believe that, given no one else but CP would pick it up, but I wouldn’t mind reading up on that point.

          • Lynx

Zero’s about the same as SC, actually, if I remember right.

Ao I think is higher. Maybe it was the other way around, I can’t remember.

          • Maxwell3000

You seem to know a lot about the background for these games. Do you import any of these games or just read up on the text amounts for each game?

          • Lynx

            I’ve played until Zero.

A friend of mine, however, has been a die hard fan of LoH since the first game came out years ago. I HAVE to be aware of this stuff at the minimum .

            She’s kinda obsessed. :D

          • MrTyrant

I think Ao is lesser than SC by small margin but more than Zero which was the same size than FC. Zero Evolution seems to be more massive than the original Zero I believe, even matching Ao no Kiseki. Correct me if Im wrong.

Falcom said that Flash is going to be their largest work.

          • raymk

The average ff team could still get the game out within a year if tranlating it was all it took. Problem is square doesnt care about the west anymore and cant be bothered to even release their own games. If xseed could hire more translators this wouldnt take more than a year. If the chinese version doesnt take long to get translated you know theres an in house problem which even they admit now.

          • Um… I’m not sure that even makes sense. The average FF team is working on scripts less than 1m characters in count, so of course they can get the translation out in less than a year.

And with the way Japanese works, different translators often have different voices. Putting multiple translators into a single situation gives the editor a huge headache, because everyone will interpret things differently. Especially in a series like the Kiseki series where there are things that are meant to be read ‘between the lines’ on top of everything else. Trying to convey it or even missing it entirely can definitely cause problems.

          • (Way to delay a response on this, Floofy. Anyway..)

The average FF game does not have 1.5 or 3.6m characters, though. The average Final Fantasy has less than half of the text found in Trails SC (usually at about 700-800k in text for its script).

Also, Square Enix is better integrated with their teams for simultaneous localization while developing a game. How do you know it was translated in a year? Rarely translations are done in that amount of time anyway.

The problem with having more translators means you’re getting a ‘more cooks in the kitchen’ issue. Every translator has a different ‘voice,’ and opinions on how certain aspects of Japanese should be translated. Just recently, I had a 2-3 hour discussion on how to not include honorifics to someone who believes that they should be added in. This is a small example of this.

Another thing to remember, XSEED isn’t the first game to look at this series in the first place. And I can tell that they weren’t the last after FC was released. Most companies, though, have pushed it aside when they found out about the script size.

Regarding the Chinese release, I actually spoke to a friend who is able to speak all three languages, and she’s said that since Chinese and Japanese have similar language structures, that it’s a significantly more straightforward translation. Especially as they possess similar cultural concepts and so forth. She’s also said that there are also concepts in the Kiseki scripts that are easier to go from Japanese to Chinese- they don’t need explaining.

On the other hand, if you do a quick translation from Japanese to English, you will lose the concepts and you will lose the personality in the character dialogue. Straight translations do not preserve this information, on top of the fact that the language is a completely different structure, on top of the fact that we have some major conceptual differences that need to be covered and “localized.” A direct/literal translation, afterall, is considered “sloppy” when it’s in a professional release.

          • raymk

I know how large the script is but the fact still remains is that they can get multiple games out within a year with lots of txt. Translating isnt a problem for big companies and the too many cooks in the kitchen cant mean too much because square puts out some of the best translations. Even the FC released by exseed didnt take all that long to release when they put some budget behind it to get it out within bout 6 months. Still companies only dont release games because people stay silent all the time instead of coming together to help spread the word. I can also promise you no one is looking at the hame because its on psp and wont sell well, if they knew it wud sell the script wouldnt matter.

          • XSEED’s largest game besides FC was Rune Factory 4 and that was riddled with delays of its own. Remember, it’s absolutely unheard of for an RPG to have a 3.6 million character script. The average RPG is at about 300-500k, the average Final Fantasy script is 700-800k.

I’m also not sure I understand what you mean that it only took XSEED about 6 months to release FC. Ken has gone on record to say that it took somewhere between a year and a year and a half, and I JUST commented that Jess was editing the script for 9 months.

There is a demand for the games now, but I also know of companies that have looked at Sen, got its character count, and declined it for that fact alone. It’s not so much a noise factor, but it’s partially a script size + ROI.

Also, regarding Square Enix, they also are one company- English and Japanese. As a result, they are able to start localizations before the product is finished. Most other localizers don’t get that, and they even say that’s something they’d prefer *not* to do, because the script changes during the development period- and it can be a hassle for a localization team. And the deal is, these games have already been developed. FC is having its 10th anniversary next year. Sen just went gold, so for someone to be able to do concurrent localization with a game in development… they really can’t at this point, because there isn’t a Kiseki title in active (and announced) development at this point in time.

        • Lynx
          • raymk

Massive is still the right word to use unless theres a better one that i can think of.

          • Lynx

      • It’s pretty much confirmed this. XSEED is there to make sure they live up to QA standards, but this is practically Carpe Fulgur’s baby.

  • TheExile285

  • Endy Operin

So… what is the full version of the teasing image? :) Because it’s definitely didn’t look like Agate.

  • artemisthemp

It’s already out for PSP, so it’s only the PC thing that is new

  • JohnNiles

Time to bust out the YES! YES! gifs.

  • KingGunblader

Best. News. Ever. Can’t wait to play this game on my Vita!

  • Andrew A

    Thank you, XSEED!

  • Demeanor

    My body is ready!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A few questions come to mind:
    – I wonder what are Wyrdwad’s thoughts about having a separate team handle the translation, I remember FC really being a labour of love from Wyrd and Jessica, with high standards of localization; is he satisfied with the quality of their work? (he probably needs to answer a big yes since this is a company matter, but I am personally wondering about his private, personal opinion :D)
    – since this is a PSP digital purchase, that means I can play this on my Vita, right? Right?
    – I understand the PC got various versions of this game, which one will we be getting? Will there be a difference between PC and PSP version? (I’m thinking PC > PSP)
Go for it guys, I’m praying for a Q1 release!

    • Lynx

      3) From what I understand, like the Ys releases, they’re trying to incorporate all the big enhancements.

  • Brion Valkerion

Will buy it! Could not get into it on the PSP but every raves about this series so willing to give it a proper try, on a big screen :)

  • Go2hell66

    WOOOHOOO !!!!

  • Unlimax

Those Publishers really knows how to please everyone :)
Would be awesome if they publish other titles on PC ~

  • In regards to Carpe Fulgur…so THIS was the secret project they were gunning towards. I was wondering what the deal was but could never really guess it. They were incredibly tight lipped about it.

  • xAtKx

Manly tears can only describe this.

  • Sukhdev

Thank you XSEED! I’ll download the game for my Vita :D

  • DivinePhoenix69

BasedXseed is at it again*throws money at screen*.

  • Ladius

Day one for each and every Trails release, no questions asked. The only negative is that I won’t be able to buy multiple copies since those are digital releases, but whatever :P XSEED and Carpe Fulgur deserve all our respect for making this possible.

    • pekikuubik

Sure you can. On Steam you can buy additional copies as gifts and either keep them or send them to people.

    • CirnoLakes

Buying multiple copies is even easier on Steam than it is with other means. I know, I’ve done it multiple times. I have a huge list of stuff yet still in my Steam inventory that I haven’t given away.

It is something that has become habitual with me over time.

  • Luis Camargo

More TitS is always a great thing. Thank You, XSEED.

  • JazzyMan123

    Day one buy, no question.

And to those who would complain about “why no retail” and whatnot:

Just be grateful you’re getting it at all, they worked their asses off on this for TWO YEARS and put in a tremendous amount of effort and that is no small feat for a text heavy game such as this which can easily reach up to 100hrs in gameplay.

And once again XSEED and C.F deserve all the respect for making this a reality.

    • Pyrotek85

Yeah I like physical releases too but you can’t really complain for these kinds of games.

    • Ladius

I completely agree, I’m the first to be against digital-only releases when the market proves retail titles are feasible, but this is definitely a situation where digital is the only answer for both PC (since there isn’t a niche retail PC market outside of some European countries) and PSP (since a two UMD project would be extremely difficult and have higher costs than a normal release).

      • Pyrotek85

Two UMDs? I wasn’t even thinking that, but after hearing how big it was I should have expected it. Yeah that’d probably be too expensive with the state of the PSP right now.

    • Slayven19

They? Isn’t it like one person doing the translation? I give that guy 80% of the credit and the rest to xseed only because they funded him.

      • pekikuubik

Technically it’s one person doing the translation and one person doing the editing, both are Carpe Fulgur guys. Not sure if Nicholas is doing anything on SC.

    • With a digital copy, all the biggest hurdles have already been cleared. I’d wager even an extremely limited physical edition (say, 2000-5000 copies), priced at a level that would cover the printing costs, would sell out within a couple of days.

    • 3PointDecoupage

I think most people will be/should be playing this on the vita anyways. The only thing that sucks is there won’t be a special edition. I want an art book!

  • Chris Lane

    YES FINALLY. Day one buy

  • neetloaf

Thank you based Carpe Fulgar and XSEED for giving us the chance to enjoy sweet and juicy TitS once more.

  • Yes I will double dip FC for steam waiting for SC then. So nice to include PSP versions, but since this series was for PC I will have to focus on that platform.

  • Thanks Xseed, Carpe Fulgur! Now we just need 3rd, Zero, Ao, AND Sen XD

  • Erikdayo

Sweet. Day 1 download on my Vita, for sure. :)

  • Raze

I misread carp fulgure for palco folgore

    Either way…
I hope you’re not giving up at LoH series after SC, Xseed….

  • Wake

A new PSP game available for digital download? If that’s the case, maybe Type-0 might…

    *Gets shot*

    • Pyrotek85

They’ll probably localize after it’s been fan translated and then complain that sales are bad.

      • Slayven19

At this point they may as well just make a ps3 version of the game with extra content so that they can make up for the lost sales if the translation finishes.

        • Solomon_Kano

Wouldn’t really be lost sales, since they weren’t counting on western sales at all. So doing a PS3 version would just be a further expense to curb losing sales they weren’t anticipating anyway.

        • Pyrotek85

Yeah or even Vita if they wanted to keep it mobile. I’ve heard it’s very good, maybe something like that would help out the system. I mean the name alone will sell copies.

    • FFmax

I would love that but Square doesn’t seem too keen on localizing stuff lately.

    • TheExile285

Implying SEUSA is as awesome as XSEED? *shoots Wake*

    • Will John

No need for type-0. Your hopes should be saved for a game that isn’t pretty much guaranteed to be in English one way or another soon. Like CCC

      • Wake

        Hmmm. How about Valkyria Chronic…

*Gets hit by proton streams and sucked in a ghost trap*

        • Will John

Once again, save it for a game that won’t come over one way or another….

  • JackDandy

  • Altritter

Very excited about this, especially the fact that it’ll also be on PC. Thanks a bunch, XSEED & CF.

  • Pdugna

Now I wonder if this will be compatible with Vita if it is will probably pick it up with the first game

    • TheExile285

The first game is and I can’t of any XSEED published games that don’t work on Vita. I think XSEED is releasing this on PSP too because they are hoping a lot of Vita owners will buy it too. Hopefully we can get the Vita version of the 3rd game if this does very well.

I’m trying to decide if I should make a second PSN account to buy 2 copies lol. Friggin love XSEED.

  • ragingmerifes

    PC MASTER RACE WINS AGAIN!!!!!!!1111!!

Seriously, now. I already have a PSP, but I might get a Vita just to thank Sony and XSEED for letting this miracle happen. And I’ll also buy on Steam, because the price will be fair.
Also, I’m going to replay TLoH trilogy and TitS all over again, just to remember the memories.

    Anyway, thank you for believing.

    • CirnoLakes

Before anyone gets angry at “PC elitists”. The whole “PC master race” thing is generally meant as self-deprecating humor. And this was clearly meant in that fashion.

But seriously, it feels good to be a PC fan right now. Project Phoenix, Mighty No. 9, and Sora no Kiseki first and second chapter.

      • Wake

Haha you’re like a deity Cirno. You’re looking out and protecting your people XD

  • DesmaX

Wow, didn’t think I would live to see this.

But, hey, Carpe Fulgur? Wonder if they are going to change the text in the boxes, like the first one.

And, hey, surprised by how they’re doing it on PSP, that’s dedication to the fans.
Oh well, I’m picking Tits FC on Steam, I want to replay it in HD

  • CirnoLakes

Looking forward to buying first and second chapter on Steam.

Looks like I’ve got a lot of nice Japanese games to play on the PC soon.

  • AndreasStalin

YES! oh yes yes yes yes. Thank you Xseed! This also gets my hopes up for the other games in the series getting translated and released. So awesome.

    • CirnoLakes

Only if we buy enough copies.
I am, admittedly, planning on buying several and giving them to friends. Especially if there’s a Steam sale.

      • DesmaX

Well, that could be a problem

It all depends on Calpe Fulgur

        • CirnoLakes

“KB: Based on the math of about 1.5 years to bring the first one
over and roughly three years for the second, you should be able to
expect it to release sometime by Christmas 2019.”

Is this the statement you’re referring to? lol

          • DesmaX

This, and the last one too

          • CirnoLakes

I think that if they get enough funding they can expand to have more translators. Or hire out more help like they did with Carpe Fulgur.

The main issue if that of money. Yes, translating that much text is a lot just for a few people. Which I’m sure is all their budget can afford right now.

But if, say, the games each went on to sell 300,000 copies, like Recettear is confirmed to have done. It might be economically feasible for them to simply hire on more translators to make translation quicker.

As long as there is enough market incentive, they can be done.

          • Slayven19

If the company gets more funding they can bring in more translators so that shouldn’t be a problem. Scripts can be as big as they want but there are some master translators out there. However they cost money and that’s something xseed doesn’t have since they are very small of a company even when compared to other niche companies.

        • Lynx

Which I will play this (even though I was the one who posted that in the first place.)

          • DesmaX

“it’s basically the AAA of localization. The games have to sell proportionally more than other titles for the opportunity cost to make any sense”

I fell like this is the exact problem with localizing this series. But hey, it’s on Steam, so who knows

          • CirnoLakes

Japanese RPGs have always had the fascinating quality of basically being a book in video game form. Especially franchises like this.

And that’s why I love them.

          • Lynx

Ys has apparently done really well so who knows, indeed.

      • Lynx

        I’m doing that as well.

Either that or guilty tripping people on Facebook and Twitter.

        Maybe both.

  • MrTyrant

Day one. Not complaining about the digital version, great decision about platforms and eternally grateful for their work.

  • Aristides

Project X Zone, Tales of Synphonia, Senran Kagura, SC 0-0 Video game localization are tipping to our favor. Next Gen seems to be pushing devs to a corner, that or people realized that we exist lol. In any case, I can’t wait to play SC on my Vita!

  • Dano Drisdelle

    Fuck yes.

  • Awesome! Now, I just have to finish my copy of Trails in the Sky FC…

  • Zeonsilt

Awesome! This will be the right way! Digital distribution on PC-steam(and Origin?) and PSP/Vita users.Zero & Ao no Kiseki doesn’t look so far in future now.

  • Solomon_Kano

First you helped Takaki wrap the world in boobs, now you’re wrapping it in TitS too!

    • CirnoLakes

Oh, I see what you did there.

    • CirnoLakes

So, who is it that’s trying to wrap the world in DFC?

Because I’m going to pledge my sword to them.

      • Solomon_Kano

Might be a bit hard to wrap if we’re talking the same DFC…

        • CirnoLakes

Now where is that comic when I need it.

Mathematically, flat chests are bigger than “big boobs”. It’s true! Less is more!

    • Sentsuizan_93

      I see what you did there….. :P

    • Yo’ welcome. :3

      • Solomon_Kano

Saw this after I tweeted you… you just double blew my mind.

        I can’t.

      • Adding my thanks. I really hope what you said in your blog post continues far past this project and that you guys continue to do good work. I’ve funded every project you’ve released and I intend to do the same here once released. Cheers!

      • Barrylocke89

Wait, was THIS the mysterious 4th game? If so, then it makes perfect sense that it took a little while to announce.

Thanks SpaceDrake and everyone else at Carpe Fulgur, and thank you Xseed for doing what you said.

That’s why you guys all rock! :’D

      • Kai2591

        All hail SpaceDrake!
        Hero of JRPG fans!
        May he prosper always.

      • fayt255

Thank you SpaceDrake and Carpe Fulgur, and Xseed I am happy to know the Trails in the Sky Sc is getting localized. I never played the first game since I didn’t think the second game would get localized. I really didn’t want to start a game with a story I would not be able to finish so Thank you very Much!

    • Tom_Phoenix

Hopefully not just Steam (although considering the Ys games haven’t been released on GOG yet, I’m not holding out much hope that this will buck the trend and be released on non-Steam DD services as well).

      • Solomon_Kano

        The more, the merrier.

  • Zeonsilt

Glad Carpe Fulgur is still alive though,i have devoted a great amount of time in Reccetear in past years.

  • Ethan_Twain

YES, I am very pleased about this announcement. Not the sequel part, the PC port of the first game part. Although Legend of Heroes has never struck me as 100% my sort of JRPG, word on the street is that it’s super high quality. And when a game is super high quality, that’s more important than if it fits to my specific genre preferences. But I had a problem: like most of the market outside of Japan I never bought a PSP. Now I have a solution: I can play the game on my PC.

I REALLY hope this becomes a thing, these PC JRPG ports. FF VII happened a few months ago, and now the Legend of Heroes games are coming over. PC is a platform where it’s extremely convenient for me to buy and play these super long JRPG experiences over many months, and the hardware requirements for most JRPGs seem to be minimal. No offense, but modern JRPGs aren’t really known for pushing the limits of technology. Which is, for the purpose of putting a bunch of them on my computer to play, awesome.

    • DesmaX

Actually, it was originally a PC game, and then it was ported to the PSP

      • CirnoLakes

Yep. Falcom is one of those amazing Japanese companies that actually has spent many years primarily supporting the PC.

Though this sort of thing could certainly inspire others anyway, if it is successful.

  • darryl scott

did we ever got the first chapter?

    • Ethan_Twain

We did, but as a PSP exclusive. So by the end of all this we’ll have both the first and second chapter available on both the Steam and PSN stores.

      • darryl scott

ahh thanks bro! could i download this for my vita? from the psn store?

        • Ethan_Twain

          Yes you could!

  • Raltrios

Based Xseed! I haven’t been waiting as long as most other people since I only beat FC a couple months ago, but I’m as excited as anyone about this news.

Is there any way I could get the digital copy on my PSP if I have WPA2 security? Like, by connecting to my computer via usb cable?

  • Holylifestar

Carpe Fulgur, I must say, this was worth the wait.

  • SwiftWind

This is probably gonna be my first PC game since I don’t use my PSP much anymore and I don’t have the Vita. What better way to get acquainted with Steam then SC? ;)

  • Kevin Schwarz

This gives us hope that XSeed could actually bring Trails in the Flash sometime in the near future.

  • LightZero

Look like 2014 will be a kick ass year for us gamer. I can’t wait to play this game.

  • BizarreJelly

XSEED are officially my favorites. Carpe Fulgar are total bros.

  • gayblackjewishislamocommunist

2014 might just be the best year for RPG fans in a long time.

  • Carocaro4

My heart all these years of waiting hoping for a sign. Finally my unyielding thirst for this game is over. I am so happy.

  • FFmax

OMG YES! How much memory will this take on my PSP though since it’s digital only?

    • TheExile285

it was 2 UMD in Japan so I’m thinking 3-4GB

      maybe 2GB though

      • British_Otaku

        Two UMD games eh?

I still haven’t played a multi-disc game yet (installing games doesn’t count, thinking about switching disc in the middle of play).

It sounds like trouble to need to change UMD in the middle of gameplay when hypothetically with a portable you could be anywhere. Another reason to get it on PC… >_>

        • TheExile285

Well it seems that this gonna be DD only on PSP so if you buy the PSP version it won’t matter.

There’s only been 2 DD PSP games: Trails in the Sky SC & Final Fantasy Type-0

  • Maumac77

Hm….to be honest I have the first game on my vita, but never really got around to playing it. Started for a bit and never picked it back up. However according to people’s reactions I should probably get back to it?

  • Zero_Destiny

Good to hear it’ll happen for all those who waited it, and it’s nice to see the game going on both Steam and PSN.

As for me, I guess it gives me enough reason to actually play the first game past the initial couple of hours. The original Trails never set my world on fire, but admittedly thinking I could never play part 2 really prevented me from getting invested.

    • Solomon_Kano

Same haha. I bought it, started up, heard it ended on a cliffhanger, and put it down. Now I can finally get back to it.

      • Zero_Destiny

Oh, and here I thought you were a big fan. I’m super disappoint in you now young man. :P

        • Solomon_Kano

Your own expectations led you astray!

          • Zero_Destiny

            insert dramatic squirrel video here

          • CirnoLakes

            You tempt me.

      • Draparde

Thats exactly the reason I stopped playing it as well XD. and also the reason i’ll be playing it again lol

        • Solomon_Kano

Glad it’s not just me. Nobody wants a 3-year cliffhanger. I like suspense as much as the next guy, but that’s too much!

  • Grape Monet

If there’s one complaint I would have, it’s that we’re not getting the PS3 HD version of the game, but ANY version is better than not getting it at all so I’ll take what I can get, day one.

Incidentally, Carpe Fulgur would be a great name for a JRPG boss.

    • pekikuubik

The PS3 version uses the original high-resolution assets from the PC version. So you’ll basically have the definitive version on PC, if Sara manages to bring over the additions from the PSP port.

    • DesmaX

They said in their facebook page that they’re looking into the PS3 versions. But PC/PSP are pioritiy now

      • Slayven19

I’ll be happy if they can get the ps3 versions, but someone told me that the ps3 version were bad when played on an HD tv, Basically It’d be like using the psp for an hd tv is that true? Hope its not.

        • DesmaX

Not really. It uses the HD assets from the PC versions, so it looks quite nice.

But, it’s still the same as putting a PSP on the HD Screen. They didn’t change anything on the actual game

  • Foryth

OMG! Yes! I’ll definitely be buying both versions of SC and the PC version of FC as well. So excited!

  • Kaitou21

Im not crying tears of joy…….its just manly sweat…….XSEED………i love you, tell me when i can preorder a copy

    We won!!!
    What a glorious day!!
After 2 years of a demanding fight, the fans won!!!
Depiste terrorism of part of fans (steam punks ) and sad panoram of PSP/V WE WON.
    But, no time to rest!
We DEMAND TiTs TC and The New Arc’s game (for PSV/PS3).
Because, we cant have enough TiTs, more TiTs better!!!
    (Pun intent).

    • CirnoLakes

“Depiste terrorism of part of fans (steam punks ) and sad panoram of PSP/V WE WON.”
      Uh… what?

      • Sergio Macellaro

We won: to play a good game on psp or Vita and YOU a Port to PC.
        We won, dont we?
        All of us.
What pissed me is the comments saying “this MUST BE ported ONLY to steam, f u c k the psp players”.

Why? The bona fide fans -knowing the state of affairs- of PsP trusted Xseed and buyed the game. They not deserve this treatment.
Xseed comply his word and for this deserve my respect. The solution dervised apeal all party and maybe became a model to be follow on the futures releases of this franchise.

By the steam users, the end of this story id be very diferent.
Because they -most- only look your bellybottom and dont give a danm for gamers from others plattforms.

(It not excuse myself, but english isn’t my natural language, then deal with it and ignore some obvious errors, ok?)

      • Why do I feel like I read something cryptic?

    • Ferrick

this post would’ve been better without all those additional unpunny puns

  • Mister_Nep

This is the single greatest news I have heard today.

  • Sergio Macellaro

The PsP version is my call.
(I need return to FC and finish it now!!)

    • CirnoLakes

And I’ll be buying on Steam, probably several copies over time, in fact. Because I’m a “terrorist”.

      • give me a copy :P

        • CirnoLakes

Weren’t you planning to buy a copy for yourself, though?

  • Okay now we must force as many people as possible to not only buy SC but get back to FC with the Steam re-release.
    I trust in you, Internet!

  • Presea

Thank the heavens, I must get this! First Ys Sea of Celceta now Trails in the Sky SC, I can’t ask for anything better. <3

  • Slayven19

Hopefully the PC version will make up for what the psp version won’t do. Cause lets be honest here, the psp in the west is dead and its going to flop on psp. However steam is very much alive and I can see this doing great on that. Still I’ll buy it on both but only because I want to support their effort for those that still want it on psp.

    • Pyrotek85

I hope this trend keeps up and we get more JRPGs released on Steam, might be the only realistic alternative if they don’t think there are enough retail sales.

  • Raharu95

It’s coming… and maybe the rest will come too… OH MY DEEEEVIIIIIIILLLLLLL!

  • neo_firenze

I’ve been one of the people begging the the point of obnoxiousness for this, and I will DEFINITELY be putting my money where my big mouth was. Buying every version (PC releases of both games, and PSP SC) day 1, guaranteed.

And I feel almost a little bad saying this already, but… WOOHOO this now totally opens the door for 3rd to finish the trilogy. Which sets a path for Zero and Ao! Xseed can keep me (and themselves!) busy for a long time with this series!

    • Slayven19

We almost in there dawg :D.

  • Monterossa

So… finally they’re getting localize? good.

  • mojack411

How was that one pixel any sort of hint towards this?! haha. Not like I’m complaining. Now I have to go back and finally finish the original.

    • Ferrick

there was a third hint lol, though that didn’t really help much since it only shows hips

    • Mister_Nep

Turns out that it was part of Agate’s arm.

  • Mike Pureka

Woo! Looks like this IS the mysterious Carpe Fulgur “Project 4” after all!

  • epy

I’m glad they’re doing the PSP version, they could just be like ” Yeah, we’re not doing it cause the PSP is dead” and there’s nothing we could have done. You’re awesome.

By the way, is the PC version the original japanese PC version or some sort of amalgam of the PC version with the PSP enhancements?

    • pekikuubik

This and this post should answer your question, to some extent.

  • Michael Connell

Here’s hoping the PC release will help expand the fanbase enough so that SC will sell enough so we can get more of the series.

Also, my reaction to the news:

    • Excellent use of Avatar friend, excellent use.

      • Solomon_Kano

I saw your comment before I clicked the link (haven’t refreshed this page in a while) and knew it would be that. Perfect.

  • Nyandroid

  • Junko Enoshima

i love it when companies still make psp titles worth buying <3

  • ChiffonCake

    There is a god.

  • Lordshade

One of the articles tags is “PCP”, Is anyone going to correct that mistake?

    • Solomon_Kano

With how long folks had been waiting for SC, the fanbase took a dark turn…

But, no, I’ll try to see about getting that fixed. Thanks for the heads up.

  • Chim_era

    WOW 0_0
Really didn’t see that one coming. Now I know why Carpe Fulgur was so quiet the last time :p
Really looking forward to it, can’t wait :)

  • Chiupon

  • Universe

    What else can I say?

    Bring it on!

    • Warboss Aohd

Ys needz ta watch out fer Sectoidz.

  • Skye Johnson

Well, this made my day. : )

Though I really enjoyed Xseed’s translation of the first chapter. I know SC’s script is massive, but I hope it doesn’t lose the same charm that Xseed put into the script before. I really enjoyed their translation. It’ll be interesting to see what this new studio has to offer.

  • Neophoton

    Sigh… *slowly cracks open wallet*

    All of my monehs. ;__;

  • Kami nii

This reaction when I saw this news

Please excuse the capslock… lock by OMG asdfghde!? Yay!

  • Kudoshinichi12

I feel like I’ve been waiting forever for SC… dang. I just now realized it’s been two years, lol. But man, I’m so excited about this. After FC, I got hooked like crazy on Sora no Kiseki and I’ve been following all of the later releases (Zero no Kiseki especially, but also Ao and Sen) ever since. It’s crazy how big these games are. I seriously can’t wait to play this game. Definite day one purchase.

  • Anime10121
  • DigitalFowl

So, I’m just gonna put it out there… I see a LOT of people in here collectively ‘losing their shit’ about this announcement, in a good way of course, and I wanted to get like a brief explanation behind the fandom’s enjoyment of the Kiseki series.

So, could someone explain the appeal? Basically like, what’s the storytelling like, combat and the character progression system.

Cause honestly, more JRPG’s on Steam is always a welcome thing as someone who wants to make a permanent leap to PC gaming.

  • 3PointDecoupage

Thank you Jesus! I played an hour into the Japanese version, and it’s even better than the first game.

  • British_Otaku

The Trails in the Sky series is on the PC (and PSP as well for this one)? Then I don’t even need to get my PSP working to play it. I’ll keep at eye out for them in the future.

    • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

The Legend of Heroes is a series that originated on PC, Falcom decided to later port (and eventually release simultaneously) the games to the PSP because in Japan, the PSP was a sweet JRPG hub~.

      • British_Otaku

Thanks for the response, I’ll probably look up The Legend of Heroes eventually.

Are the Trails in the Sky games easy to follow without playing any of the older Legend of Heroes games? Nothing missed out on like picking up Final Fantasy Tactics over any of the main FF games?

        • Bacon_n_Lettuce

Trails in the Sky is the start of it’s own series, independent from anything preceding it. As long as you start with the first Trails, you’ll be right where you should be.

  • Alexander Aubert

    my heart skips a beat

  • BlakShiranui

Haven’t heard of this series, but it looks like it’s pretty popular if voices of praise are resounding across the Internet.
I don’t own a PSP, but at least I’ll be able to enjoy it on the PC ^ ^

  • S- Class Wizard KaRamo

  • BleuVII

Hmmm… what’s that chill I feel? Oh! This just in. Hell has frozen over!

  • Thank you for bringing this to PC!

  • DFM

To XSEED: One day, when I am financially secure/reasonably successful, remind me to donate you guys some funds. Seriously, THANK YOU; TiTs is one of the few RPGs that gave me a retro & yet novel feel that’s almost on par with the experience I had with Chrono Cross. Meanwhile if there’re limited goods/merchandise released with TiTs SC, you have my wallet signed, sealed and delivered.

    Yours sincerely,
    Just another humble fan.

  • dahuuuundge

    I’LL TAKE 20

  • Hours

I still can’t express how happy this makes me. Thank you XSEED and Carpe Fulgur, from the bottom of my heart.

  • And then we can whine for another two years for Chapter 3 after this one’s cliffhanger ending too. :)

  • Phoenix_Apollo

I mean like jeez y’all get serious mad props forever for getting this out. Even it is DD, I love you guys a lot. But I’m curious why you’re going through with this but don’t wanna do Grand Knights History? Dragon’s Crown is done and all.

BUT Seriously though I am grateful. Like oh my god I loved the first Trails so much and now the second one is finally coming I’m so excited ^_^

    • Brandonmkii

Really? This has all been explained before. They really don’t have any say when it comes to GKH. They finished the translation, and that’s really all they do. It’s up to Vanillaware to decide if they’d want to go ahead with it. I honestly don’t see much hope for GKH in this day and age, being such an online-focused title.

  • I´m going to ruin the parade with this question but, why no HD remake for PC/PS3?

I will buy this on steam when it is released. I will buy the first game again on Steam when it is released.

But still, that HD remake looks so promising. So it´s hard being me right now. I´m overjoyed that SC is announced for PSP/PC. But I still have that lingering feeling that the HD remake looks so tasy.

When all is said and done though: Glorious Xseed and Carpe Fulgur! Thanks alot!

    • PoweredByHentai

Maybe let them flesh out the details first?

The lack of PS3 localized version is likely due to production costs vs sales projection not being profitable. XSEED _is_ a small company and Carpe Fulgur is even smaller, in case you haven’t noticed.

      • You are most likely right in this regard that production cost contra sales projection would result in red numbers for them. This might soften the blow a bit with PSP and PC versions. So I am happy, so very happy to be getting SC. But alas, that HD remake looks so delicious.

I have noticed the size of their companies. And they appear to be smaller than what I think of them. So all kudos to them for their work on Trails in the Sky First Chapter and now Second Chapter.

        • PoweredByHentai

Since I imported all 3 of the Trails in the Sky PS3 HD versions, the HD versions are definitely awesome and nice to look at.

Thing is, we’re also in a period of transitioning to PS4. Continuing to support PS3 is still a valid business decision but one that depends on its relevance after the PS4 rolls in. Supporting the digital PSP version just means that Vita owners can continue to play the game.

I don’t know what their plans are for the Steam version since that’s a special case and seems to be a case-by-case sort of matter for Falcom, which is also a small studio.

          • I wanted to import them when i first heard about the HD remake. I really did. What stopped me? All those lines of a language I do not understand.

And since not all lines are voiced right? I would miss out on info which is crucial to me.

But yeah, great haul from your side.

    • DesmaX

The PC version will be in HD. They’ll probably add Widescreen support like the Ys games they released on steam

      • So the PS3 version will be ported to Steam? While the PSP version will be translated?

Why do I not think so. Even if the game itself can be upscaled to 2560×1440 on my screen it doesn´t mean that the game itself is HD.

I know whatever they do it will look marvelous on my screen and I´ll have as much fun as I can with it.

        • DesmaX

          nonono, let me explain.

First, these games were originally made for PC’s. And they could even render at HD Resolutions (Even going for 1080p, but it just scretch the screen to cover the empty space). But, when Xseed released the Ys ports on Steam, they adapted it to support native widescreen (Without scretching the screen).

Even so that the PS3 versions use the assets from the PC one (Because, you know… They are sprite-based game. Unless you have HD sprites already made, you aren’t making a HD version)

          • In all honesty, I forgot that they started for the PC. That throws everything into a whole new perspective. Good for everyone indeed.

  • XiaomuArisu

Now I have to beat the first!
    Good job Xseed!

  • PlayLife

Hope this gets compatibility with PSVita, since I played and finished the FC on my PSVITA and still have it’s saves.

  • Kai2591

I have the FC on PSP, but only played half-way (on a break).
Very glad they’re releasing it and SC on PC, cuz that’s my preferred platform (and small screens get tiring after a while).
