Final Fantasy Agito Starts In The World Of Type-0, Your Decisions Change The Story

By Sato . September 11, 2013 . 3:03am

This week’s Famitsu magazine revealed that Final Fantasy Agito, a title that will give players a look at the history of the first bout of Final Fantasy Type-0 is currently in development for iOS and Android devices. Now, we have more details regarding the upcoming game, including information on a new character.

According to the magazine report, Final Fantasy Agito will be a free-to-play title with premium items you can purchase with cash.

Hajime Tabata, known for directing Final Fantasy Type-0 and The 3rd Birthday will be assuming the role of producer for Final Fantasy Agito. The new character in the game, Myu Kagerohi (pictured on the right of the screenshot), will be a representative cadet in Final Fantasy Agito. She will be voiced by Haruka Tomatsu, known for the voice of Asuna in Sword Art Online.

The main character of the game will be a cadet who can be customized by the player. The flow of the game will be similar to those of other free-to-play mobile games, where you have Action Power that is recovered over time and is consumed when you accept missions. There will be decision making options that change the outcome of the story. There is also amsystem, where you can get support from specific allies in missions by becoming friendlier with them.

The first part of Final Fantasy Agito will be about the history of Orience, the world of Final Fantasy Type-0. From the second part onward, the main story that changes according to your choices, will take over. The story will progress through chapters, and once you complete it all, it will start over from the beginning. This allows you to experience different story routes by choosing other choices from what you previously selected.

According to the report, each chapter will consist of about two weeks of playtime. Out of the 14 days, 10 will be spent on the “Solo Play Phase,” where you’ll be taking on missions as individual characters. You’ll be spending the other four days on what’s known as the “Team Play Phase,” where you’ll be taking on bosses with a team.

There will be a job system, with exclusive abilities for each job. Famitsu also reports that the game supports asynchronous play, so you won’t have to worry about the time you play with others. Additionally, game’s system will allow you to follow through the story without the need for leveling too much. The cash paid premium items will have features such as Action Power recovery items, ability lotteries, and continues for failed missions.

Final Fantasy Agito is slated for release this winter for Android and iOS devices.

For one, this looks mildly interesting to me. If it’s localized (admittedly that’s a pretty big if), I’ll give it a try. No reason to bash something before it’s even out… even though it seems to happen way too often with mobile games.

    • Rohan Kishibe

I just wanna bash it because we’ve actually never gotten the real Type-0. I would be slightly interested in this if we actually had the chance to play Type-0. Like you said though, it’s a huge “if” that this will be localized since the original has yet to get that chance.

      • Shady Shariest

I’m in the same boat… If they localize this but not the Type-0 it will not only hurt the fast recovered name of Final Fantasy, but also cause an internet outrage of DRM-level chaos :/

(Also, people would go apeship in general)
Edit: But being optimistic, this might be slight hint of Vita-version of Type0 coming :3

      • malek86

In that case, you could bash Squenix for not localizing the original Type-0, or maybe you could bash Sony for their design/marketing choices that made the PSP an unviable platform in the west. I really don’t think the decision to not localize the previous game is somewhat tied to the mobile boom, you know?

But as for this, I’d say that the fact we never got Type-0 makes it all the more interesting. At least, if this one gets localized (and I think it has slightly more chances), we’ll get to experience Type-0 in some form.

  • Chaos_Knight

    Free-to-play. Nice.

  • RichyGaming

I thought Final Fantasy Agito was just a game that changed its name to Type-0

    • Dagobert

Who knows anymore. Who knows what the hell goes on in Square Enix’s studios. Apparently name changes are cool these days with Square Enix.

      • komiko12

Maybe they will also use the old Final Fantasy Versus title for FFXV?

        • DriftSlave

FF Versus XV……sequel bait incoming…wait my bad….trilogy bait.

          • Arcana Wiz

they never said that it will be a trilogy, they said sequels were planned, so i guess to compensate many years of resources we will receive the XV saga. My guess? three four big console games and some spin offs.

          • DriftSlave

I’m being mellow dramatic about it~

FYI, I’m one of the few who actually likes the Lightning saga so, to each their own I suppose. I just like poking fun at SE now and days.

          • Arcana Wiz

^.^ if you refresh to see my edit you will ses that i said maybe it will be an entire saga of four/five games…. but yes just being melodramatic too.

          • Shady Shariest

I would be down with it… If they keep a modern setting throughout it could become an interesting series of games. Maybe the designs and environment’s would evolve in tech, or have influence from story settings?

    • It was, and with the original Agito/Type-0, Versus 13/ FF15, and FF13 which were to make up the Fabula Nova Crystallis series of Final Fantasy games. I think it’s interesting they would make a sequel to Type-0 using its original name, and possible they had more story to tell with it.

  • komiko12

It’s interesting to note that Agito was meant for phones when it was first announced.

  • zferolie

Say, why didn’t Type-0 come to america? it looked interesting

    • Arcana Wiz

SE decided that cause of the PSP dying situation it wouldn’t be profitable to localize it.

      • zferolie

it was dying because no on was supporting it… just like whats happening with the Vita… sometimes I question’s Sony’s handheld ideas… the PSP and Vita are great systems… but so few games…

        • RoxasTheUnknown1

It wasn’t just that alone as when they said that, they tossed out T3B and Dissidia 012. Both of which did well. Kitase stated that he believed the style of game that Type-0 was, wouldn’t really be liked outside Japan. Having played it I can kinda see where he was coming from but they did shaft hundreds of thousands of players. Theres also that vita port that they just let die….

          • Arcana Wiz

actually dissidia did well, 012 didn’t meet sales expectations of SE, so a sequel isn’t much likely.

          • RoxasTheUnknown1

It did well enough regardless of what they say. Well not in Japan from the numbers. Pretty sure a Vita version will happen at some point. Nomura keeps talking about how theyre not done with it yet. Also 012 was more an expansion. Even they knew that which is why it sold so cheap.

          • Arcana Wiz

interesting i remember Nomura saying that they already have done everything that could be done with that mechanics so the next dissidia wouldn’t be the dissidia we know, so i think that they are going to take a cheaper approach like dynasty warriors style or tactics, but who knows? he could be talking about a big budget sequel that will expand the the first two mechanics.

And i searched for that interview but sadly i couldn’t find it.

          • zferolie

012 didn’t have good sales? I loved that game(I played as the newcomer from FF11, but I am forgetting her name) I would like to see a sequal that added more characters from the FF series(ULTROS! Yuffie, Lulu, and others), and maybe Sora, Aqua, and other KH characters(the non-disney ones for legal issues). That would be pretty popular.

          • Arcana Wiz

it did have….. good sales, but it was more like a expansion of dissidia at the moment when piracy was huge, and SE expected sales of a new game, kinda like Tomb raider it sold well considering all the factors but SE expected more.

          • zferolie

SE seems to put sales expectations for all their games much higher then they should be…

Off topic, but I just remembered that there was a Tales of FIghting game on the PSP. Sadly that never made it out of japan either…

          • Arcana Wiz

yes and many other games that were released in japan in the end of psp that never came here, but many tales games were released on psp and never came here, the phantasia remake, radiant mythology 2 &3, narikiri dungeon saga, etc.

          • zferolie

Many tales games in general never come here… I hope that is changing though, with Xillia, XIllia 2, and Symphonia HD. I hope they decide to bring the 2 Vita remakes, and make the PSP remakes/actual games downloads.

          • Rohan Kishibe

          • zferolie

Right Prishe! Thanks. She was awesome

          • Slayven19

Well he’d be kinda right and wrong at the same time. They could have said with the type of game Dissidia was it wouldn’t be well received outside of japan. They just didn’t even try to see and the gameplay alone would have held up for why people wanted to play it.

        • Arcana Wiz

yes, it”s a cycle, Sony dont want to use much money in handhelds cause the they aren’t profitable like the consoles, so the first party support isn’t much good, cause of it the system dont sell much on launch, and cause of the smaller install base third party devs dont make exclusives to vita, and cause of it the handhelds dont grown, and it continues to be less profitable than the consoles so Sony………

          Summing up.
Sony = focus more on consoles = less launch sales than nintendo portables that always have a mario game = devs going to 3ds and consoles = less sales cause of the lack of games = less profitable handheld to Sony who prefer to make games on consoles = less first party games =(go to the beggining)

BUT at the TGS they are showing more Vuta support and they made a team to bring more games to west. SO let’s hope ;D

          • zferolie

Yeah, and us Sony PSP and Vita fans outside of japan are the ones hurt. It stinks

But yeah, I saw all that Vita support at TGS, and I REALLY hope they all come outside of japan as well…

        • DyLaN

Aside frm wht Arc said, there also the fact tht most of those PSP/Vita games stay in Japan.

  • Ashelia Poundland Dalmasca

if this comes to the west it would be like pouring a bucket of salt onto an already gaping wound

    • Yeah no kidding! I was going to comment, “We can’t have Type-0, but you can bet they’ll definitely localize this!”

    • Touma

I see it more of a puss filled leg that they decided to stab a knife in. and just wiggled it around inside for good measure. then just watched the puss ooze out to their giddy delight…that was rather grotesque but i really wanted an official english version so the descriptions fitting.

  • Alexander Aubert

FREE TO PLAY wow, SE become nice lately

  • Herok♞

I still think Square is just using what Agito was originally and just releasing it now, which is interesting.

  • Sapitntapit

Okay, if Type-0 was successful enough to get a sequel and iOS games revolving around it, why won’t they just release it in the west?

    • DyLaN

      Cause its on PSP.

  • MrTyrant

You know. I kind of like the idea of creating a character, interacting with npc from the game and having decisions that carry consecuences while following one of the branching path. It’s a good idea for a Final Fantasy and the job system is very rich by itself to allow a good character grown but this was mostly used for Tactical or MMO games.

  • Prinnydoom

So…….what the vita not good enough for ya square. I mean sure bring it to iphone it doesn’t really effect me. But come on, I here that vita sales stink at the moment what better way to make that stop. I dunno clutching at straws here and it’s never really gonna happen but seems like it be a good idea.

  • keriaku

This looks like an actual real game under the ‘social game’ mantle. I’m really happy Square is starting to take this stuff seriously and really see what they can do.
