Tales Of Link Shares Its Story And A Look At Four Key Characters

By Sato . September 11, 2013 . 7:45pm

Namco Bandai recently opened a teaser site for their upcoming smartphone title Tales of Link, which reads, “When disaster falls from the heavens to the earth, hope also springs from the ground.” Gamer.ne.jp introduces us to the game’s story, along with a look at four key characters.

The World of Remaining Myths — Liafys

The gods of the heavens have continually watched over the people of the land, while maintaining peace. However, one day, this peace would crumble. An unknown being had entered the heavens’ shrine, and destroyed the seal.

The “Seed of Disaster,” which was originally sealed, has thrust through the body of the gods, and scattered them from the heavens to different parts of the world.

One young girl and a fairy, along with her comrades, will start their journey to seal the seed, once again.

A young swordsman who is on the journey to purify the Seed of Disaster.

Sara is a new adventurer who left her village for a certain reason.

A fairy who serves the goddess Leone.

Leone is a holy goddess with a calm demeanor.

You can check out our earlier report for more details on the above characters.

Tales of Link is scheduled for release this fall on smartphone devices.

Does anyone else think that logo looks cheap?

    • Kevin Schwarz

      I think so too.

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Yeah they should rename it to Tales of Buruma Or Tales of Que Sara Sara

    • stephane3012

Maybe probably cause it’s an android game.

    • Suicunesol

You mean about as cheap as an iPhone game?

      • Sakurazaki

Kidding, but the art certainly does not look cheap at all.

    • Sergio Briceño

It serves it’s purpose, they are links in a chain. But yeah, does look cheap.

  • Melvin Kwan

I like these designs. Too bad it’s wasted on a mobile game =

  • Kevin Schwarz

They should pour ALL those efforts on mobile games into a single console game WE ALL scream for instead. :V

    • Oscar Alberto Abrego Suarez

Nah you should be happy more people will play this and get into the “main” series and increase the series popularity.

This “Console or die” mentality is what is killing franchises.

      • dimka

Whats killing franchises are people who buy this worthless mobile crap

        • DyLaN

Sure, let’s lump all mobile game into the same pile. Its apparently a cool thing to do these days.

          • Slayven19

Yeah things are all about being cool these days so I can see why he said what he said.

        • Oscar Alberto Abrego Suarez

Not really because what if those who buyed it wanted it on phones instead of consoles? Japan is heavy phone and handheld centry so there is demand for good phone/handheld games they should be “pandered” to.

The heart of the matter is that consoles are not good places for niche series anymore, thats why ATLUS has shifted to handhelds because the handheld market has rather see these games on them than consoles.

Again the “console or die” mentality is why franchises dies.

  • 3PointDecoupage

please tell me Namco isn’t turning into Squeenix and putting all their resources into crappy mobile games.

    • FFmax

      Oh god I hope not.

    • Brandonmkii

They’ve been doing mobile games for a looooooooooooong time. If you weren’t worried then, why are you worried now?

    • Randy Marsh

Hey not all the mobile games Square has made were “crappy”. Final Fantasy Dimensions was a really amazing game, but I digress

Ditto on what @Brandonmkii:disqus just said. The Tales series has been doing mobile games for a long time, even before Square started delving into them. Look for Tales of Mobile and you’ll get a list of mediocre mobile games Namco has made for the series.

Besides, we’re probably not even getting this, so why care?

      • Rogerrmark

Dimensions is a fantastic game indeed, one of my favorites on the series and, like, ever. The iOS/Android are not worthy of it,though.

        • Barrylocke89

I never understood this sentiment. I know that lots of games just don’t work well with phone enviroments, but turn based jrpgs aren’t among them. We already know Japan’s moving towards more portable experiences with their jrpgs, and the control scheme works well with a turn based game.

          • Syn

Its because it will be lost in mobile gaming hell after 2 or years when OS updates make in incompatible and theres no physical copies or console it will run on forever, thats why its considered it being wasted on the mobile platform, as the name suggests, its an ever moving platform with a poor record of allowing so much as an old game playable at this point. Just wait till a new popular OS comes along and watch all these mobiles games Vanish(Nokia games anyone)

  • kaimo

Oh man these designs are hilarious

  • Warboss Aohd

first ‘Tales of’ Staple confirmed, Little Girl party member.

    • Oscar Alberto Abrego Suarez

More like Tales of cliche or Tales of uninspiring..

    • Warboss Aohd

i got a thumbs down for pointing out something that is true?

  • Chaos_Knight

Watch. There’s going to be a Zelda reference. Just watch.

  • Suicunesol

    Where’s Link?! I don’t see him anywhere. :O

    • God

      Secret Boss.

  • Curan_Altea

    Wow I love Shiza’s design.
And I’m gonna regret saying this, but I like Sara’s design too.

  • Of course the little’un would wear bondage gear. The designs are very Radiant Mythology-like.

  • Ric Vazquez

  • Anime10121

Wonder if she’s the spell caster (Norma, Elise, Anise, Collette, Marta) or the strong fighter type (Presea). From the looks of her clothes, I’m leaning towards fighter, but, we’ll see

    • M’iau M’iaut

Certainly can’t tell for sure but she does appear to be more in line with the Leias and Farahs of the series. That one or two years in age removed from the Elles and Elizes.

  • Milla

i like Leone she looks pretty

  • FFmax

Wow that little girl looks really provocative, what’s going on there?

    • M’iau M’iaut

Zetta ryouiki legwarmers, buruma and a bow that doubles as an ahoge, Seems pretty much in keeping with their unique use of tropes.

  • AliceTheBRabbit

    Mikasa is that you

    • Pockystix

      MANkasa, eh?

      • God

        No. Just… no.

    • FitzpatrickPhillips

      Cannot unsee

  • fireemblembeast

Whose definition of “fairy” did they use? haha

  • fireemblembeast

Why does Rippi have a smart phone on his/her collar…?

  • These character designs seem wacky even for a “Tales of” game

  • Charmchar

The character sure look just a tad big wacky but i got to say, i love Rippi design. So cute XD.

  • QueenDecim

How many swords does this guy need

    It’s like Yuri found ebay

  • HerosLight

Shiza is secretly Yuri Lowell’s grandson

  • kideven

Could end up on playstation mobile like Chaos Rings

  • Masengan

I saw Shiza and when I clicked the image Mikasa from Attack on Titan just took over… He’s totally prepared to kick some ass.

  • KaiYamato

Rippi is practically Mormo but more furry.

  • Kai2591

    That’s a lot of swords.

  • Oscar Alberto Abrego Suarez

Is Sara the MC? Anyways she has pink hair and this gal (Pic) is the only pink girl i have been able to take seriously so i bet Sara will be an annoying character.

If only Tales tried to change the usual anime trope >.>

    • Arrei

They already did a pink-haired girl who wasn’t hyperactive in Symphonia, with Presea.

      • Oscar Alberto Abrego Suarez

Its was fine but it still lacked something but good starting point but it seems they reversed with ToV pink haired one (Forgot any name that wasnt Yuri) and no fan of Arche as well.

        • KingRuff

It seems more like you just don’t like pink haired girls in general, other than that picture you have. Most pink haired girls in Tales have completely different personalities. You just appear to be upset that they haven’t added some cyber goth Tales character who acts like the girl you are showing us.

          • Oscar Alberto Abrego Suarez

Nah im tired Tales either follow hair tropes or class tropes (Wich was ToV case).

This one is good as well.

  • DyLaN

Concept/Plot sounds interesting. Character design looks OK too. Same deal with FF Agito, will try IF its localized.

  • Misty Dawson

Haters gon’ hate. I can’t wait to see more.

  • It should be renamed to Tales of Dissapointia.

  • Elemiel

Sara looks like an 80’s work out trainer. Let’s get physical, physical!

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Whyyy are such slick ass designs wasted on a damn mobile game?!

  • awat

Mobile Gaming is a No go for me and as i can see for dozen others too but owh well ,wer gettin another Tales of” soon i guess? maybe theyll announce it at TGS.

  • Setsu Oh

is this the first time neither ms.inomata nor mr.fujishima are at the char design helm?

  • tubers

    Tales of Microtransactia

  • Carrie Kube

Character design-wise, the way Shiza’s daggers are positioned, they’d easily slide out. As for Sara, oh God, there are child beauty pageant contestants that wouldn’t be caught dead in creepy, skimpy number. I don’t mind skimpy, but not a little girl.
