New Atelier Rorona Vs. Old Atelier Rorona

By Spencer . September 12, 2013 . 3:49am

Gust has a remake of Atelier Rorona in the works and after seeing this video I think New Atelier Rorona: Origin Story of the Alchemist of Arland looks more sophisticated than original Atelier Rorona. Aside from upgrading the graphics, Gust also changed the core system and used Atelier Meruru as a base.

New Atelier Rorona comes out for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita on November 21.

Man, the characters models in the first game were awful. Glad they are remaking this.

    • Erikdayo

Yep. Can’t wait! Just beat the final main story boss of Totori Plus today. Meruru Plus up next. I wonder if saves from Meruru Plus will be transferable to the new Rorona just like Totori Plus to Meruru Plus.

      • Virevolte

I’ve read somewhere that it will be transferable. But it’s just to gain some costumes and such, eventually a weapon.

        • Erikdayo

Better than nothing. I’ll take it! :D

      • TheExile285

Yeah apparently it will be transferable.

        • Erikdayo

          Sweet. :D Thanks.

Then people who already bought this game should’ve a free update!

      • TheExile285

They are adding more than just new character models…

  • malek86

Only the characters seem to have actually changed. The enviroments have remained the same or just got some slight cosmetic difference. Too bad, I guess?

  • raitouniverse

Holy cow, the difference in the character models are jarring. That first game looks so poor.

  • Anime10121

I have the first Arland game, so I can vouch for its ugliness in character models. This one’s sporting a HUGE improvement!

  • leingod

Well the character models are definetely better… not much a fan of the SD look. I just hope the framerate is better in this version, the Atelier games always seem to have framerate issues.

  • hunterrnl

It`s great to see how much they grow as a studio in the last 4 years.

  • Freud_Hater

    Hope they localize this :(

    • leingod

If the previous games are any indication, they should.

      • Freud_Hater

        I like your optimism ^__^

  • Virevolte

The amazing thing here is that Astrid has bought some new carpets to commemorate New Atelier Rorona.

    Sterky!!

  • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

    Very nice.

  • Smooosh

    Daaayum, looking good!
I REALLY need to get into this series, I only played Annie (which apparently isn’t received all that well from what I got told on the OT?) but had a bunch of fun with it.

Getting the vita games once my backlog gets a bit smaller.

    • anarchy_panty

I have no idea why so many people are down on Annie. I had a lot of fun with it, too.

      • aquagon

It’s not a bad game, but it’s far simpler than any of the core games or it’s sort-of sequel Lina.

        • anarchy_panty

I don’t think simplicity should really be too much of a knock against it, though. Ayesha was comparably simpler compared to its immediate fore bearers, but it was still a fun game.

And unfortunately my Japanese is limited to about 8 different ways to apologize, so I can’t really play any of the games that aren’t translated to English. :_:

          • aquagon

Which it makes the more unfortunate that so many of the games never came here. Personally, I was rooting for a Lina localization after Annie was released over here, but we all can see how it ended…T_T

      • Smooosh

Yeah, neither do I, maybe because I haven’t played the other games in the series yet.

But the music was great, the crafting and shopkeeping was a bunch of fun and the combat was simple but not repetitive. It also was pretty funny and had some adorable moments in it.

        PS: Nice Shantae Avatar. :D

        • anarchy_panty

You should really bump them up to the top of your backlog. imo, there’s really nothing quite like the Atelier series.

          And thanks! :D

  • Nitraion

i”l be love to platinum it again

  • artemisthemp

I really looking forward to playing this :)

  • WhyWai

so the characters grown up! lol

  • AxionAzure

I’m impressed, there’s a real leap in quality there. In the old Atelier Rorona, the 3D models of the characters didn’t really look too much like them.

  • http://linkapics.tumblr.com/ Linka

Man, I’ll admit, I did not remember Rorona looking like how it did until seeing pictures more recently. I’m shocked at how huge a jump between Rorona and Totori was, graphically.

I’m seriously looking forward to this game. Hope we hear something about it and Escha and Logy soon.

  • AndreasStalin

I quite like the original version, but I can see that I’m in the minority here. will get this for the Vita though if it gets localized.

    • winsantz

Yeah, there’s something to be said for the lo-fi charm of the original, which isn’t to say the new version doesn’t look great.

  • Learii

oh man the new chars model is the real deal

  • Presea

Wow the new models looks so great <3 Everyone looks so awesome, it's great.

  • Yan Zhao

    Sterk you handsome man.

  • ronin4life

    I can’t watch video…
    ;_ ;
    What am I missing?

  • Raharu95

Seeing this makes me sad that NISA is not in charged of Aterlier localizations anymore… The difference is astounding…

  • XiaomuArisu

    Holy….Awesome Upgrade!
    Gimme Gimme!

  • Göran Isacson

Ha ha oh wow, Sterk. That is SOME difference in character design. Seems like the character models are the only thigns that really got a face lift though…
