Puyo Puyo Tetris Is Exactly What The Game’s Title Promises

By Spencer . September 12, 2013 . 1:41am

Interesting things are happening with Tetris this year and we’re not just talking about Tetris Monsters. Sega dropped a few screenshots of Puyo Puyo Tetris, a crossover between Sega’s blob chaining game and Tetris. One of the features is a versus mode where one player has a Puyo Puyo board and the other player has a Tetris grid. Puyo Puyo Tetris also has standard Tetris and Puyo Puyo modes too.

Puyo Puyo Tetris is scheduled to come out in 2014 for Wii U, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and Nintendo 3DS.

Well, that’s certainly more literal than I expected.

Tetris vs Puyo Puyo is certainly more hardcore. I would like to get this game someday!

I am very interested in this. Depending on the price, I may snag it. I’m decent at Tetris and could use practice with Puyo Puyo.

This is actually great, because my friend loves Tetris but hates puyo, and I hate tetris and love Puyo! Now we can face eachother using our respective platforms!

Too bad the chances of actually seeing this in English are slim to none. Oh well, at least I can import the Vita and PS3 versions.

At first I was imagining a combination mode, where instead of Puyos dropping in 2s, they’d drop in 4s in Tetriminos and you could either clear them the usual Puyo Puyo way or by creating lines.

However, every piece you drop would clear itself instantly if they were constructed of a single Puyo colour. If they were instead constructed of randomised colours you wouldn’t be able to stack them efficiently enough to play it as Puyo Puyo, and you would confuse S and Z pieces or L and J.

Now that I think about it though, I don’t think any puzzle games could crossover in that manner. The rules are just too dissimilar.

………..I actually thought that someday i would be able to see a collaborations between Columns and Tetris first before Puyo Puyo.

But well, baby step i guess and of course, Puyo puyo is also another cute but surprisingly hardcore puzzle game lol.^_^

can’t wait to see superplay videos of one person playing both games simultaneously with 2 controllers…

Puyopuyo Tetris: THIS will make you guys demand Nintendo to remove the region locks off the Wii U and the 3DS

If not, Demand XSEED, Atlus or Sega to release the game here in the US for all of it’s listed platforms (even the Wii U)

This thread has me imagining a crossover game of Magical Drop and Tetris, where you pull down out of place tetris pieces and throw them back up to complete rows.

Magical Drop is my favorite puzzle game of all time, and Tetris of course is amazing as well.

So if it’s a relatively low-budget, strictly puzzle-based affair, is there any real reason *not* to localize it? Tetris is all well and good and people always buy it, but Puyo gets shafted outside of Japan and dammit there’s fans overseas too guys.

Hah, this is the best news yet. I’ve been only playing puyo 20th anniversary for the pass 3 months and was always going on about how there aren’t any new puyo game yet.
I must train harder for this game! I take forever to make successful chains higher than 7… And Arle is the only character I can play in modes after tsu. Good thing it looks like it’ll only be tsu rules. :D
Too bad I probably will still suck at puyo and will have to play tetris to win against anyone. D:
