Mega Man 9 And 10 Developer Working On Shantae: Half-Genie Hero

By Ishaan . September 17, 2013 . 10:45pm

As previously detailed, Inti Creates, the developer behind Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10, are working on Mighty No. 9, Keiji Inafune’s spiritual successor to the Mega Man franchise. However, that isn’t the only 2D platformer they’re involved with.

This afternoon, WayForward Technologies announced that Inti Creates are also working on Shantae: Half-Genie Hero, the upcoming HD Shantae game for PC and consoles. In fact, they’re also working on Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse for 3DS. Here’s how it happened:

In September of 2011, mysterious Shantae fan art appeared in the gallery of Inti Creates employee Makoto Yabe (aka KOU). At KOU’s suggestion, [Shantae creator] Matt Bozon reached out to Inti Creates President and CEO Takuya Aizu to see if his studio would like to collaborate on Shantae. By the end of the year, Inti Creates was hired-on for Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse, and has since continued on with Shantae: Half-Genie Hero.

WayForward say that Inti Creates has developed “key artwork, concepts, and character illustrations for the Shantae series”. Shantae: Half-Genie Hero is in development for PC, Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.

Woah. That’s really sweet for IntiCreates.

  • Really super hoping this news causes the Shantae kickstart to boost up like crazy.

    • TheRealMalek

Also hoping it too, discovered this project few days ago and it looks great.

Shantae’s Kickstarter was promoted on Mighty No. 9 update page and that only can bring good results!

YAY, let’s hope it can reach a lot of its stretch goals.

    • LanceHeart

It jumped about 30K overnight, so I’d say it was well worth it to announce the collaboration.

This will make it no problem. The thing is how many stretch goals it will manage to meet. Probably not many. Even so, considering standard KS trends, it should be able to reach $600k.

      • I hope so. I’m just disappointed that a game like this didn’t hit it’s goal within the first few days, when Mighty No. 9 managed to hit more than double that in that time.

All I want is for them to hit the 700k goal. I love replayability excuses.

        • malek86

I have a feeling some of those stretch goals will be added in the game regardless.

I think its just bad timing, most people already emptied their spare cash on Mighty No 9, and didnt have a lot to spare for Shantae. Its kind of unfortunate. I pledged to both but yeah, not everyone can afford to.

I think the everything really is coming full circle.

They also made Gal*Gun. I guess that’s also noteworthy (I mean, it’s a rail shooter where you shoot pheromones at girls).

… isn’t like i played it or something like that…..

        • Juan Andrés Valencia

Honestly I played the 360 demo and while the insanity and perversion levels were off the charts I also wondered how does a game that ugly run at 30 FPS or why there isn’t Kinect support. I’m still probably importing the PS3 version just for laughs.

Maybe they will consider bonus stage with cameo each other?

My metaphorical erection has surmounted Everest.

Huh, so they handle illustration, not coding or graphics or some such thing? Not the CLOSEST of co-operations, but still pretty darn neat.
