Dare Ye Dance? One Piece’s Pirates Dance Off In New Rhythm Game

By Eugene . September 19, 2013 . 2:41pm

It had to happen eventually. One Piece is getting its own rhythm game with the aptly titled One Piece: Dance Battle for smartphones this winter. This one appears to be a pure rhythm game, with characters from the series such as Luffy, Chopper and Nami getting their groove on as players hit the right buttons to combo with.

Scoring well raises tension, although what that does beyond giving a score boost is currently unknown. The game will also be in full 3D so characters can show off when breaking out their best moves, or perhaps to let players better to enjoy those seagulls in the background bopping their heads to the music as well.

One Piece: Dance Battle will be out for smartphones this winter in Japan.

    *sees screen cap for Video*
    Yeah, “Seagulls”…

  • Highasthesky

Well, we know what’s selling this game >_>

    • ronin4life

You mean Humanities inate addiction to the rythmn?
      ?_ .

      • Highasthesky

I didn’t think people would get it but, YES that was it EXACTLY :D

        • Lifestreamer

-_-, Not sure if my faith in humanity is restored or not…

    • At first I was thinking “Dance game or not, the fact it’s One Piece will sell this game.” Then I saw Nami and knew exactly what you meant…

    • Ryuuken

Chopper’s sick dance moves, that’s what.

  • fairysun

The lack of Django in this video is disturbing.
There is even a short video about One Piece dance.

Search “One Piece Dance Carnival” and get ready to shake.

    • Don’t forget Bon Clay. Can’t have an anime dancing game without the anime’s local dancer. Or in this case Ballerina. Also, it’s not a One Piece dancing game if they don’t have the feast dance or whatever Luffy calls it when he grabs a basket and shoves chopsticks between his nose and bottom lip.

      • Oh Come My Way style of bustin’ a groove.

  • Pockystix

    Boob physics at its finest.

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

    … What was…I don’t even… huh???

  • Andrés Ortiz Ozeta

    *Sees Luffy and Chopper*
What, is this for real? what could possibly make this game appealing to anyb… *Nami pops up* OH DEAR.

  • Virevolte

The way they’re dancing on scene is reminding me a lot of Raphael in Rhythm Thief. Amusing.

  • Lifestreamer

It’s all about the Seagulls! Now put Sanji dancebreacking and I’m sold.

  • harmonyworld

I hope the dancing will be better with other songs.
Also they better have character songs in this!
Hi Ho Ready Go is so danceable!

  • subsamuel01

Since when do people play rhythm games on their phones. Wouldn’t it make more sense to put it on a console with some sort of motion controls.

  • Weird Al Yankovic

    Robin’s like, “……No.”

    • Aisha Lee

After Robin’s performance in that play the SH starred in. I wouldn’t be shock if she came out busting a move.

  • 3PointDecoupage

One Piece has done pretty much every genre except one. When am I getting Call of Duty: Sogeking?!?!

    • British_Otaku

We are almost there, Unlimited World RED has first person aiming as an option for Usopp and all of their Unlimited games before had Sogeking in some form from costumes to a transformation…

I hope it gets in despite Sogeking not really appearing or having a reason to appear after the 2 years, partly now just so we technically have a first person shooter based on the One Piece license with Sogeking at the helm with his partner Chopperman.

    • Shady Shariest

With: Chopper as the “CoD Dog”

  • Sergio Briceño

    Thank you jiggle physics.

  • Arcana Wiz

See luffy dancing ehhh dont know doesn’t appear to be my kind of g- enter Nami! YEaaaaaah i wanna this!!!!!

    • Time it at 0:41 to start with Nami. xD

  • Interesting. Kinda reminds me of YT MMD videos with character in-game models ripped from video games and integrated to it.

  • Shadowman

Maybe Jango can be another character to be reveal in this game?

    • And Blackbeard.

      • Shadowman

I beat he got some groovy moves!

        • Ryuuken

          Don’t forget Gold Lion Shiki

  • ragingmerifes

As long as we can exchange outfits and dance to the anime/movies songs, I’m perfectly fine.
ESPECIALLY if I can make Nami dance to Robin’s theme while wearing a bunny outfit.

  • Detrimont

looks like a patch over rhythm thief, but yeah…. jiggling plot

  • Victor Armando Chapa Pineda

I just wonder what kind of music this is going to use?

    0:41 itagaki approves

  • ShinStar

Ugh, at first I thought the gameplay was going to be similar to Bust-A-Move/Groove but nope :( And it’s for smartphones too.

  • Suicunesol

Well, I’m not really a fan of rhythm g–
    *Nami appears*
    Nevermind. Downloading.

(In all seriousness, it doesn’t look that great, but eh it’s for phones.)

  • Göran Isacson

If this game does not feature Brook, Jango and Bon Clay busting EVERY GROOVE IMAGINABLE I will be very disappoint. Also I wonder if the music will just be every song from OP’s sound track so far, or if they will include other songs that Namco just happens to own the license for.

  • Ryuuken

I respect my fellow fans’ reasonings that this game needs to have some Jango, Blackbeard, Bentham, Brook and Shiki, there are also others tantalized by Nami and the ideas of having Robin, Boa Hancock and Tashigi, but really guys and gals, its all about Chopper. I’d like to see some Monster Point break dancing, wouldn’t anyone else?

  • Ryuuken

So yea…did this ever come out? I can’t really find anything about it.
