Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds Overdrive is a 2D beat ‘em up much like the Xbox 360 and soon PlayStation Vita version of the game. Unlike Double Dragon or Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds uses two planes players can jump back and forth between. Mages designed the game like that so it feels just like the core fighting game series.

Well, after looking at the trailer, I guess it looks a bit smoother than the XBLA version, also, more enemies in place to handle the capabilites of the game itself, also…Frau? New Character Spoiler, lol. :3

  • Dat Nigga Ova Der

    frau koujiro dlc? YES!!!

  • Wappuli

Played lots of this on X360 already but will still definitely get it for PS4 too.
Now i just wonder that is Frau yet another new character or is she the one they mentioned with the Vita-version.

  • LustEnvy

OMG FRAU. YES PLEASE. About the only real reason that I watched Robotic;Notes. It was…. sadly a disappointing anime. I want this game just for her.

    • NeoStrayCat

I see, now if the XBLA/Vita ver. one day would follow suit and add her as a character if possible.

  • HououinKyouma

    Come oooon… PS4? Why not PS3?
I alredy bought it on Xbox just to use Kurisu, guess I’l buy it again when I’ll get the PS4.

    Localization, Please

Well… it looks as pixeled as ever. I know it’s supposed to be like that, but when I think about games to get for my brand new next-gen console, I don’t exactly think 8bit-styled brawlers.

    • りんごタルト@エスカのアトリエ

Somebody actually hasn’t played an 8-bit game, I see.

      • leingod

You see wrong. The game clearly does more than anything a 8Bit console can do, but you could say the aesthetics are inspired on the 8Bit SD style, brought by games like the Kunio series, Mighty Final Fight, etc.

As I said, cool style and cool game, but it’s not what I’m looking forward to play on a PS4.

        • りんごタルト@エスカのアトリエ

We’ve seen enough of photorealistic games. If there’s one thing the next gen needs, it’s games looking like this.

          • leingod

Games like these can be perfectly done in this gen, and that’s exactly the point.

When you first get a next-gen console all you wanna see is stuff that couldn’t be done by previous hardware. Retro stuff can come further along the line.

  • Demeanor

Kawwwaaaiiiiiiiiiii <33333 I'd love it even more in HD (hoping Ikusa Hime Plume will sate that kind of thirst :P)

  • WyattEpp

Oh huh, didn’t notice this has an FM soundtrack. That settles it, I’m getting a PS4.
