Dragon Quest X Expansion Awakening This Winter

By Eugene . September 20, 2013 . 11:29am

The previously announced expansion for Dragon Quest X, titled Dragon Quest X: The Slumbering Hero and Sworn Guiding Ally has had its launch date firmed up. The expansion will release on the 5th of December in Japan.

This gives PC players time to catch up with their Wii and Wii U brethren, with the PC version finally being released on September 26, a couple of weeks prior to the release of the expansion.

The Slumbering Hero and Sworn Guiding Ally will be sold at 3,990 yen (About $40). The Wii gets a retail version only, while both PC and Wii U players will be able to buy it either at retail or as a download.

Players can also pay 5,690 yen (about $60) to get an additional exclusive King Garden Slime downloadable NPC for their village if they purchase through Square-Enix’s online store. This is separate from the Special Pack earlier announced for PC.

    in the West. . .

Dragon Quest X can’t even be imported and played on a NTSC-J console / PC outside Japan by the average gamer. Their servers are blocking non-Japanese IPs.
And Square Enix made it quite clear they don’t want to localize DQ titles anymore (they said it literally on an interview about DQM:Joker 2)…
So until the 3DS is hacked and fan-translations are possible, no DQ7 3DS, and no DQM1 / DQM2 / Rocket Slime 3 in English.

I’d like to see or read the interview myself.

Do you have a source on that interview please?

I need to see that interview please. This is a bombshell if true.

Nintendo’s intervention is the sole reason Dragon Quest VI and DQM:J2 were published in the US. They *were* localized by SE, but were left in the drawers unpublished, in a situation much like the Type-0 one.

The Nintendo side stated in an interview I can’t get a hold of (due to DQMJ2 Google searches getting drowned with the DQM2 3DS remake info instead), but was published back then, around DQM:J2 English release: “Square Enix think the Dragon Quest series was not viable in the West. Nintendo had to step in to publish this title.”

Feel free to do your own search.

And yet , they said that they were “evaluating” DQ7r for international release, so I don’t think they would admit to that.

I read somewhere that DQX WILL be released in the US in some form, probably by Nintendo.

And unless more DQ shows up in the West, SE will not get a single penny from me.

And unless we get some DQ, SE will not get a single penny from me, period. If I want a non-DQ SE game, there is a second hand market. No DQ, no business, period! I hope the moderators are wise enough to actually post my comment this time.
