Final Fantasy XIV And Dragon Quest X To Collaborate For Square Enix 25th Anniversary

By Sato . September 20, 2013 . 9:40pm

While we haven’t seen Dragon Quest slimes hopping around in the worlds of Final Fantasy since Fortune Street, the adorable monsters will be stepping foot in the world of Final Fantasy XI. Meanwhile, Final Fantasy XI’s quirky Shantotto will be terrorizing players of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, in a special Square Enix anniversary collaboration.

The above is a look at the adorable duo of a Slime from Dragon Quest and Spriggan from Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, seen in front of the entrance of San d’Oria in Final Fantasy XI.

Shantotto and Moogle will also be visiting the world of Dragon Quest X.

Shantotto and the Dragon Quest Golem enemy will be appearing as cute minions in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

However, they won’t be so cute when they’re going around knocking out players left and right while in their giant forms. Similar to other giant monsters in the world of Eorzea, players will most likely have to defeat them in order to acquire their minions.

According to Final Fantasy XI producer Akihiko Matsui, Dragon Quest X producer Yosuke Saito, and Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn’s own producer Naoki Yoshida, the collaborative project will appear as events sometime before Christmas.

Square Enix will be making announcements for all three games when the time approaches.

Imo it looks like XIV has the most indepth cross over. though i suppose it wasent explained what the other two where. I assume the two in XI where for monstrosity though. (since both are monsters in their respective games. and san’d oria is a starting zone for monstrosity lol)

its nice to see these kinds of cross overs anyway.

Glad to Shanotto back lol, freaking insane character from 11. Perfect fit for a special event boss.

  • Ferrick

lol does this mean that to Eorzeans, Vana’Dielians are giants ? XD
    *points to shantoto*

    • yellowmage

Hydaelynians, not Eorzeans. But yeah, interesting thought. Question is, if Shantotto, a tarutaru, is that big, how big would a galka be?

      • AndyLC

“Final Fantasy XIV, Dragon Quest X and Final Fantasy IX are going to be entering a three-way collaboration”

I really wish that “IX” hadn’t been a typo! Siliconera got my hopes up…

I would prefer a Slime Minion in FFXIV to a Shantotto one.

  • NickyArmstrong

    Twenty-fifth anniversary of what exactly?

    • Syn

      Youre Joking right?

      • Steve Raineault

Well, the important 25th DQ Anniversary was in 2011, the FF anniversary was in 2012, so no, he’s not joking. Any person with an IQ not in negative numbers will probably ask that question, so what’s the answer?

WHY HASN’T SQUARE ENIX THOUGHT OF DOING SOMETHING LIKE THIS BEFORE?

    • Time Sage

They did. The lightning crossover. And the cross overs within LR and the two in XIII-2

      • CirnoLakes

By “this”, I primarily mean Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest type crossovers. Ever since I had heard of the Square and Enix merger, I had imagined some great possible possibilities.

Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy. Star Ocean and Chrono, Nobuo Uematsu and Yuji Horii co-composing, Valkyrie Profile x Secret of Mana. Crossover material of dreams that could have come from the merger. The actual merger… well… fans have instead complained about it ever since. And even Square Enix have admitted the merger a “failure”.

And those of us in the West who actually know who Enix are, many of us have wanted to see things like this happen for years. Since we’d first heard of the merger. That’s been over a decade ago.

I know that Square and Enix IPs generally stay confined to their own universe, and generally that’s a good idea. You don’t see a bunch of Dragon Quest x Star Ocean or Final Fantasy x Secret of Mana. But there’s no reason things like that couldn’t have been done right, either. And it has been done before, Neku from The World Ends With You entered the Kingdom Hearts universe, breaking the chain of “Final Fantasy crossovers only”. I feel like a lot of IPs and crossover potential in general has been squandered. Over the years, the amount of collaborations that could have been done are massive.

And it has happened before, I know. Like in Itadaki Street, but very, very rarely. And certainly not to their full potential. Square Enix are sitting on a wealth of IP they’re letting go to waste by not letting crossovers like this not happen more often.

cause this may be the perfect instance to do it without risking too much?… accept it, games/events like Chrono trigger won`t happen anymore
