Konami Licensing Hudson IPs Like Far East Of Eden To Other Companies

By Spencer . September 20, 2013 . 2:55am

imageFar East of Eden was one of Hudson’s classic RPG series that harkens back to the TurboGrafx-16. The last game in the series was Far East of Eden Ziria which was released for Xbox 360 and since Hudson was absorbed into Konami we weren’t sure if we would see another Far East Eden game again. But, there is one in development.

Playdek, the company working with Tactics Ogre creator Yasumi Matsuno, announced they are also making a Far East of Eden card game for mobile platforms. The game is slated for release in late 2014 and it will be released internationally.

Perhaps more interesting than seeing the Far East of Eden revival is that Konami is actively licensing out Hudson’s library of IPs. That means there is a chance we’ll see another Bomberman, Bonk, maybe even Air Zonk game some day in the future.

I swear to god, Konami, you had better let people do something with Bomberman. And if phones games are all that comes out of that series from now on, there will be blood!

    • Bomberman isn’t dead…

      • GH56734

        Outside Japan, it is dead.
100 Bomberman didn’t get released outside Japan.
At some point after the earthquake, all Hudson Soft games were cancelled including that Bonk revival.
Tengai Makyou deserves far better treatment than this. Hell, it was once in the top 10 all-time RPG classics in Japanese polls.

Haven’t heard a single thing about the series since that one iOS game Konami released shortly after Hudson was bought, from where I’m standing he’s pretty dead. Unless there was a game I missed, which is entirely possible!

Or unless you’re being coy, and I don’t know if I want to get my hopes up for that.

that’s what they said about DarkStalkers…

Could this mean…dare I say it…Another Bloody Roar is possible?

    • Göran Isacson

Oh man, please someone do this. This and Bomberman needs way more love.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Nintendo, you better go lend that Bomberman game there. I am still hoping for new Bomberman game for 3DS or Wii U here.T_T

There was a Bomberman 3DS game that was announced, a few years ago I believe, but then it got cancelled.

    • GameTaco

What kind of Bomberman game do you want?

I really liked the post-Bomberman 64 single player entries. Tons of fun while being *much* easier… Largely as a result of not having a remote bomb stacking puzzle in every other room. :P

Just thinking about it makes me want to go back and play them (through legal means. Virtual Console, plz), including Bomberman 64. I actually have no memory of anything about my experience with Jetters other than that it was the one that had a tie-in animé. Got 52 episodes, according to Wikipedia. Can’t believe that was a decade ago.

Yet there is probably no way at all that a new Adventure Island, one of my favorite franchises, will ever come out seeing that Takahashi put a ban on using his name in any video game titles, of which the Japanese version of AI was one of those properties.

Thank you for making me feel more optimistic though.

    Hagane: The Final Conflict?!

4rth apocalypse by Gaijinworks FTW!!!!! lol

I think about Suikoden going to Square Enix or to Atlus… <3

    • doubleO7

      Suikoden isn’t a Hudson IP…

  • doubleO7

I’ll take a new Bloody Roar with a side of Eden and extra Bonk, please.

  • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

No chance of Red Company making one? Boo.

  • Audie Bakerson

The series is actually Tengai Makyou with “Far East of Eden” being the (in universe) fictional book SOME of the series is based on (so at best a subseries, not the series itself), but whatever.

  • I thought Far East of Eden was that Fighting game for the Neo-Geo

  • Jorge H. Chernicharo

Kabuki Clash (an spin off fighting game from this series) was the very first arcade game that I ever finished in my life. It is still one of my favorites games of all time.

I really hope to see it remade (or even only ported) to PS3 or other consoles
