A Glimpse Of The Attack On Titan Game For 3DS

By Spencer . September 22, 2013 . 10:44pm

Spike Chunsoft, makers of Virtue’s Last Reward and a number of Dragon Ball fighting games, has the Attack on Titan license. Attack on Titan: Last of Mankind’s Wing is a 3D action game where up to four players can team up to fight Titans.

Attack on Titan: Last of Mankind’s Wing is slated for release on December 5.

  • Would be cool if some localization company like Aksys would release this someday!

  • Go2hell66

damn actually doesn’t look half bad

  • DemonicX

Wow, this actually looks quite awesome on the 3DS. I really hope they find and allow a localization group to bring this over. If this game was to sell well, I would absolutely love to see a console version.

  • InfectedAI

I hope it gets localized. And hopefully the 4 player coop is online as well as local.

  • Detrimont

though i like the smile titan being in the game, if this game is supposed to follow the story, it shouldn’t be there, people up to date with the manga will know what i’m talking about

    • Symbol de Au

Armin also shouldn’t be a playable character since he doesn’t fight. =/ I don’t think he’s attacked a titan yet that I can remember. I don’t think it’s really following the story though.

  • Sergio Briceño

So far the only anime game I’ve really enjoyed (of a series I’m not a fan of) was the Berserk game for the Dreamcast. So I don’t really know if I should get hyped for this. But it really looks cool. Hopefully it delivers.

    • British_Otaku

You basically mean you haven’t/hadn’t watched or read any Attack on Titan or Berserk but you think this looks promising and liked the Berserk game on the Dreamcast.

You should watch the original 90s anime of Berserk then follow it up by reading the manga, you are missing out on a real treat if you aren’t doing so. Why not read or watch some Attack on Titan too even if the game might not get localised?

I kinda got introduced to Attack on Titan with this fan game (aside from hearing about it and seeing a trailer for the show): http://fenglee.com/game/aog/

It was good then and it’s only gotten better as the trailer I linked above shows.

      • Sergio Briceño

I have read the manga. It was the game that got me interested in the series in the first place. Haven’t watched the original anime, just the first couple of minutes of the first episode and was disappointed, once again manga>anime.

I have watched some Shingeki no Kyoujin too, but I’m just not a fan of it. The series is way too slow.

I wonder if I was voted down 3 times, if like you, some Berserk fan didn’t understand what I meant (not saying you were one of the downvoters) or because after all the compliments to this trailer I said “hopefully it delivers”. Which is exactly what I’m talking about, enjoying a series doesn’t turn you into a “fan”, but either saying you weren’t (originally) a fan or not completely liking someone else’s obsession earns you downvotes.

So bottomline. I don’t like SnK but this game looks kind of good, hopefully it’ll deliver, and I love Berserk ever since “Guts’ rage”, which was an original storyline way more interesting than the later bland take on the original storyline for the PS2 title.

        • British_Otaku

I’ll agree that adaptations very often fall short of the original work between manga and anime, but give the Berserk anime another look just to see how it takes on the Golden Age. You have probably heard the ending is disappointing, how it skims on some detail and don’t even care as you have the manga, but the adaptation is still worth a watch for those episodes, the performances and the soundtrack especially (you played the games so you should be somewhat familiar).

I haven’t seen the anime of SnK to know whether the pacing is that bad, I chose the manga in case the anime has a dumb ending which means I need the manga anyway. Maybe you should look into that instead, given that you tackled Berserk in a similar way.

It’s always easier to downvote than ask for clarification and chat, I reserve my downvotes for people that just assholes, really ignorant, spammers or have tons of downvotes already. >_>

I’m pretty hopeful that this turns out great as well, there is nothing better than an adaptation like Astro Boy Omega Factor, Arkham Asylum and Dragon Ball Advanced Adventure that can make people invested in the source material (the fan game I linked already reached those heights for me).

I haven’t played either of the Berserk games (imported the Japanese one on Dreamcast to have the original voices – still don’t own a Dreamcast), but I would have thought the PS2 one would be better with greater amount of content to work with and all of that jazz (I saw a trailer of Guts sparring or something with Zodd in the snow, it looked awesome). I have seen some One Piece games fail to make use of the original material recently, while the Unlimited series make up their own story for each game so perhaps I can follow.

          • Sergio Briceño

Man I’ve gotten addicted to the game you linked. Still can’t take more than 10 titans though. If someone put so much heart into making that fan game based on the manga then it’s definitely a good read.

  • AoT game by Platinum plz

    • SoundMatch

    • Kolibri

That would be over awesomeness ! :D

    • Kolibri

That would be over awesomeness ! :D

  • Notquitesure?

    Graphics look good

  • Dede Ogbe

Wow makes me wonder what the 3D Gear will look like in the live action film

  • konsama

Well this is looking really close to what i had in mind and think even mentioned on another SnK topic here.

  • Deebo#Take What I Like

I wonder if you can swing in mid air without the gear actually being attached to anything like the spiderman games.

    • British_Otaku

Like the recent poorly done Spiderman games, Spiderman 2 on the PS2/GameCube/Xbox actually cared about the webbing attaching to an environment and the lead designer on that game is working on another one with the same idea called Energy Hook (PC, it went through Kickstarter with a $1 goal, surpassed it thousands of times over) which will hopefully turn out really good.

If you can attach to nothing, I would immediately find a desk to hit my head on. It would make all environments the same and require tons of artificial ceilings and walls which may be lower than the highest buildings.

  • Nero San

The Reluctant Heroes song makes that trailer even better.

  • ZetaSiren

    hopefully it plays good

  • Göran Isacson

Textures still look a bit flat and the environments a bit drab, but it looks like the game will be pretty fast and fluid so as long as they have that going for them, I can accept somewhat drab graphics. Now all I wonder is if we can play as Levi and go episode 22 on some titans… or would that be too OP?

    • British_Otaku

They will probably polish up the visuals a lot for the sequel even if it is still on the 3DS. The difference between Unlimited Cruise (Wii/3DS – Blocky but stylised, still colourful and distinctly One Piece even if it is janky at points) and Unlimited World Red (3DS) is something to behold. >_>

I would hope there is a Levi mode with a fully leveled up Levi, even if it I haven’t probably caught up to Episode 22 (Volume 5 in the manga can’t be that far behind). I know that Levi is the real deal and anticipate him going Episode 22.

      • Göran Isacson

Ha ha, I should warn you that the moment I speak of is short, but oh so sweet. Just so you don’t expect a whole episode full of asskicking, because that would be empowering and uplifting. And we can’t have that in Attack on Titan ;)

  • karasuKumo

Not liking how this looks so far. The animations look clumsy and it seems like the hook aiming is automatic.

    • British_Otaku

Looks alright at worst to me, even if the hook aiming was automatic (which could be changed in settings hypothetically), what matters is where the hooks attach (The sky? No buy.) and how the character moves and behaves (we can slide on the ground, dope).

It seems pretty sound, though I really want to see a trailer which shows part of a mission or at least the HUD.

      • karasuKumo

Yeah I wont be too harsh until I see some actual gameplay footage. I’m a huge fan of the fan-made game because of how well it plays. Especially in multiplayer.

I’ll be severely disappointed if a game with a budget and a respected studio behind it doesn’t play as well as something made by a guy in his spare time.

        • s07195

Could I have the link to the flash game? I lost it. :(
          Also, there’s multiplayer for it?!

          • British_Otaku

            Here you go: http://fenglee.com/game/aog/

If you want to see the multiplayer in motion, look at the video in the post above. It seems to work great.

        • British_Otaku

A fair point, I will also be disappointed if this game aims for the same genre as that fan game and still fails to reach those heights.

I haven’t played it in multiplayer or the latest version of it, but woah, way to set high standards with this… I know fan games and indie projects are often better than licensed products but damn: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEu1_DqiBqA

          • karasuKumo

Yeah it is incredibly well thought out, to the point that I wish this guy had the funding that the 3DS game has. The freedom you have when using hooks is amazing. I’m really curious as to what he has lined up for future updates. I’ve only ever beaten the game in single player once haha.

          • British_Otaku

It goes to show that love for the craft can go far even without money. I see some people hoping that we can play as a titan with a future update, I’m pretty sure that it would make the game much more generic outside of multiplayer possibilities. I hope we get the ability to download it in the future.

I sorta of dismissed you talking about the freedom to aim hooks before, but manual aiming has made the game really open to player input and how we want to move, it was really engaging. I’ve only killed two or three titans back when I played the game before for a while, chances are that I’ll get slaughtered quickly if enemies are harder like the video above says. >_>

          • karasuKumo

This is so true, passion always beats funding. If you have both even better haha. That would be really awesome, I’d love to see them add missions too. Like the scene where they have to protect the human Titan (trying to avoid spoilers lol) as he carries the boulder.

Yeah the ability to get the high ground and assess the situation is a lifesaver in the game. With manual aiming you really have to co-ordinate your attacks which I feel is true to the source material. The trick is luring them over one at the time then use the environment to your advantage and attack only when you see an opportunity. I feel this really resembles the anime too.

I’ll be happy with the 3DS title even if it has automatic hooking as long as it requires the precision and timing that the fan-made game has.

          • British_Otaku

Yep, both passion and funding is what leads to truly great and experimental projects (probably Hideki Kamiya’s whole library of projects directed by him count as this). It would be nice to see some scenarios from the source material simulated in the game like Titan Boulder event.

I’ll be interested if AoT 3DS if it offers the ability to give commands or exploit bait in a more interesting way than waiting for our CPU controlled teammates to be at risk dying first.

How well executed the movement is done is going to make or break this title for sure especially as high standards are set on browsers… >_>

  • That looks fun!! This might be a game that I’ll get regardless of a localization or not.

SPOILER? I don’t think It’s a good idea to make the Titan that ate Eren’s mother a generic monster, because she’s kinda important to the story……

    • Darkrise

T.T the titan is not even close to being who you think “she” is.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

……..i really hope that i can play as other char like Annie or Christa lol.(My goddesses.^_^)

    • British_Otaku

I would think most of the top ten of the 104th Training Corps are a safe bet… I’m not too far into the manga (5 vols), but they don’t seem to have introduced many characters outside of the main trio and them who you would want to play as.

  • Raltrios

The movements look a bit choppy to me.

  • timanel1

    looks cool

  • PRGamerCub

    that looks terrible … lol

  • KazukiNanbu

the serie has a lot of potential and they are creating an uninteresting game

  • Sardorim

    Less Eren, more Mikasa.

Showcase the Main Character more, not the guy that always gets kidnapped and needs Mikasa to rescue!

  • Kelohmello

It kinda does look a little unimpressive, but then again it’s a 3DS game and they don’t really have the time nor probably the budget to make a full game on home-consoles during the merchandising time after the anime ends.

  • Guest

I really hope this game will use some of the music in the anime! And plz add an art gallery. will be awesome
